While not relating directly to Russ Faria's endeavor to reverse his conviction in the series' present, the scenes of young Pam serve to flesh out the long-simmering resentment between Pam and her mother, which sets up what happens in the last ten minutes. It bears noting also teen and twentysomething Pam were played by another actor- Emily Topper, not Zellweger.

The Past

There are some people who feel that Pam's actions are justifiable because of the way she was raised. Her mother is a real piece of work. The constant threats of withholding her inheritance lead to one tiff after another. Pam simmers and no one better get in her way. That flashback was well done and we can gain some depth of the situation. At this point the neighbors are starting to see that they had better be watching this woman. She's dangerous. Meanwhile, the evidence is mounting and a new trial may be in the offing. And Pam is out there filling her coffers, unknown to her husband and son. She begins to realize that there will be a new trial, and she can't wait to testify again. It has made her a star. But........

The show is fantastic that's all I can say!
Renee is perfect - The whole cast is great ... I love how the story is told.. I am a Dateline fan.
I am sure everyone knows there could be other Pam's out there.. Driven by money .. but to kill?
Crazy stuff..I can't wait for the next episode.. We need better shows on TV like this..

The situation closing in on Pam!

The irrelevant trip down memory lane, though leaden scene setting for Pam as a daughter, is a gratuitous opportunity to see a de-aged Zellweger out of the fat costume. It also exposed her tick with the straw as a long-term affectation.
The conviction of the husband is re-examined, casting the light onto Pam. Inexplicably the prosecutor (Judy Greer) seems to bend over backwards in support of Pam - not sure if I missed something or it is yet to be explained. A dull episode, yet it does move the plot along towards the final two episodes.
