100 Years of Horror: Mad Doctors (1996)
*** (out of 4)
This entry in the series takes a look at the actors who played mad doctors who created the monsters we loved. We take a look at Lionel Atwill, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and George Zucco. Or, in other words, every major horror star out there. As usual we get a ton of film clips including THE APE MAN, THE HUMAN MONSTER, THE Abominable DR. PHIBES, THE HANDS OR ORLAC, THE DEVIL COMMANDS and countless others.
If you're familiar with the series then you probably already know that you're not going to learn anything you didn't already know. Pretty much we get basic information but I think this series would be terrific for those who don't know the history of horror and want to get some nice clips showing some of the more popular movies. Interviews include Hazel Court talking about Cushing, Turhan Bey talking about Zucco and we get Bela Lugosi, Jr. talking about his father for a brief second. Gordon Hessler also discusses SHE DEMONS and Hugh Hefner discusses why he loved Boris Karloff.
