Welcome back to big-screen horror, Ti West. The filmmaker behind "The House of the Devil" is returning to feature filmmaking for the first time since 2016 with "X" from A24. The film, which West also wrote, has been mostly kept under wraps until its poster dropped yesterday. But with the release of its first trailer, "X" is leaping high up on our list of the most anticipated horror of 2022.
The trailer is quite a trip for anyone who isn't already familiar with the premise of "X." Brittany Snow's character opens with a breathy "take one" as she slams a clapperboard. A man named Wayne (Martin Henderson) is...

A24, the film distributor behind horror hits like “Hereditary,” “Midsommar,” “The Witch” and more, has unveiled its latest bloody thriller — and it’s simply titled “X.”
The trailer launched Wednesday and its logline reads as follows: “At a secluded farmhouse in Texas, a film crew arrives to shoot an adult film. Their hosts, a reclusive elderly couple, take a special interest in their young guests. As night falls, the couple’s leering interest turns violent.”
The cast includes Mia Goth, who’s starred in horror films and thrillers including Luca Guadagnino’s “Suspiria,” Claire Denis’ “High Life” and Gore Verbinski’s “A Cure for Wellness,” as well as the period romantic comedy “Emma.” “X” also features Scott Mescudi, also known as rapper Kid Cudi, who recently appeared in Netflix’s “Don’t Look Up,” “Bill and Ted Face the Music” and the HBO series “We Are Who We Are.” Brittany Snow,...

Jesse Dayton spent Halloween onstage at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, playing Elvis Presley songs behind Glenn Danzig. It’s the kind of oddball convergence of personalities and styles that could only find its way to Dayton, an outspoken Texas singer, songwriter, and guitarist who has collaborated with everyone from Misfits Glenn to “Rhinestone Cowboy” Glen.
“Glenn’s an old-school rock star. He bought everyone in the crowd a Voodoo Doughnut with an upside-down pentagram on it — something Glen Campbell would never,” Dayton says.
In his debut memoir Beaumonster — a play on his native Beaumont,...

NFTs have been the source of eye-popping headlines all year: A $1 million sale here, a $10 million sale there, and the sudden impression that there’s profit and prestige everywhere. But people who worked on NFTs long before they were the subject of mainstream attention are quick to point out that these digital collectibles are not synonymous with easy money and in-the-know cachet.

Buster Moon and his ragtag of animal friends are back to put on the show to end all shows in Garth Jennings sequel. The follow-up to the 2016 offering which saw Moon (Matthew McConaughey) strive to save his theatre with an X-Factor style show is guaranteed to put a smile on your kid’s faces but it’s a tired spectacular that rehashes the same old tropes.
Moon, eyeing an opportunity to hit the big time gathers his loyal band of talented musicians, Johnny (Taron Egerton), Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), Ash (Scarlett Johansson), Meena (Tori Kelly) and Gunter (Nick Kroll) and heads to Redshore City to catch the eye of the Simon Cowell type hotelier Jimmy Crystal (Bobby Cannavale). Crystal is not your average businessman; the steely-eyed wolf is as dodgy as they come and wouldn’t think twice about throwing a Koala off a tall building if he even thinks about crossing him.

The New Mutants has got to be the unluckiest Marvel movie of the lot. After being stuck in limbo for several years, it finally reached the big screen this past summer in the middle of a pandemic. The result was that it flopped hard, something not helped by the tough critical reception it was met with. Josh Boone’s film deserves some good news, then, and now it’s at last got some.
Apparently, The New Mutants is going down a storm on VOD. Bleeding Cool has revealed that the last ever entry in Fox’s X-Men franchise has topped the lists on Vudu and FandangoNOW to become the number one best-selling pic on both sites, based on revenue. Considering that it was labelled as a write-off back in August, this is a very encouraging sign for the film, which suggests it could go on to achieve a kind of cult status.

This article contains New Mutants spoilers.
The New Mutants, now available to watch on streaming, is the final outing in Fox’s eclectic X-Men film franchise. While Marvel Studios’ finally confirmed Deadpool 3 is a wild card in how it connects to anything, that’s in Disney’s hands now. Otherwise, we have 13 movies in 20 years celebrating superpowers as a metaphor for real-life prejudice. But only in the end, did the X-Men franchise really start to open up to a universe where mutants aren’t the explanation to everything outlandish.
One of the reasons the Avengers movies worked out so well was the contrast. It was a tech super-genius, a super-soldier from another era, a science-based anger monster, a Norse god, and two hyper-competent humans teaming up against an alien invasion. This felt fresh and right for a comic book universe. For X-Men, they didn’t embrace such an...

After hearing very little about it for some time after Disney bought and absorbed the 20th Century Fox movie studio, Deadpool 3 now seems to be moving forward again. As reported last week, Marvel Studios and star/producer Ryan Reynolds have tapped sisters Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin (Bob’s Burgers) to pen the next Deadpool movie after meeting with a number of writers.
Deadpool 3 will be the first film about the Merc with a Mouth to be produced under the auspices of Marvel Studios after the first two were handled by Fox. While there were concerns that Marvel would try to water down the raunchy Deadpool to fit him into a PG-13 rating (in line with all Marvel Studios releases to date), it seems likely that Deadpool 3 will retain the R rating of the first two movies. Whether it’s released under the Marvel Studios banner is another matter.
