Sex & Nudity

  • There is no sex or nudity. There is some strong discussion of the morality of prostitution and pornography. In one scene, the owner of a legal Nevada brothel tells the teenagers that prostitution and pornography fulfill God's will to "go forth and multiply."
  • There are some non-explicit scenes involving a prostitute; however, she states that if she sleeps with him because he is 16 she'd be committing statutory rape. He returns to her apartment for shelter and in his negotiation he asks not for sex but "No friends. Something good to eat, a good night's sleep, coffee and cable news in the morning." There is nothing to tell the viewer whether or not there was any sex.
  • In the bookstore, an individual is reading a magazine called "Virgin Vagina" to cover up the fact he is reading an anti-fascism book. Behind the individual are covered books that say "21 and over."
  • There is one scene with a teenage boy and a girl kissing. Another scene shows the teenage girl is wearing a two piece swimsuit and it is implied that the boy is staring at her body.
  • A couple of scenes show women wearing clothing that exposes cleavage and legs.

Violence & Gore

  • There is some violence -- about the level of prime-time American broadcast network television drama. There is little to no gore except for a humorous reference to Al Gore.
  • In one scene, two teenagers engage in a Hogan's Alley training sequence where they stop school shooters by having guns themselves. It's not graphic, but can be a bit disturbing if you are sensitive to the topic.
  • One character commits suicide (only the body is seen) and another character is shot in the head. Neither scene is graphic or gory.

Profanity

  • The "F-bomb" is not used once in the movie. There are some mild epithets like "hell," "damn," and "bitch," and one use of "sh*t."
  • In one scene, you can seen (but not hear) a girl in her prison cell screaming at the surveillance camera and flipping it off. It's tucked away in the background and is barley noticeable. Most people will probably miss it.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There is no tobacco or drug use in the movie. There is some strong discussion of the morality of selling illegal drugs. One individual has a bunch of marijuana at a booth, in the mall, and offers a box of joints to two teenagers, one whom declines to take it. Another individual at a booth (in the same mall) has a bunch of drugs for sale and offers to sell them to the teens. They do not buy anything and one teenager quotes Obiwan from Star Wars, "You don't want to sell me death sticks -- you want to go home and rethink your life."
  • In one scene, there are two teenagers and an adult drinking some "special cider." It's played down and only mentioned that one time. There is no indication if the cider is hard or merely has a strong flavor of nutmeg.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There are some action scenes with intensity about the equivalent of prime-time American broadcast network television drama.
  • One character getting shot and a view of a dead body may upset some viewers.
  • The Hogan's Alley training sequence where the teenagers defend animated students against animated school shooters may also upset some viewers, especially younger ones.
  • The movie has very intense political ideas and the viewer is bombarded throughout the movie with images and discussion about those ideas. The intensity of these images and ideas could make some individuals anxious (note: this is not a statement for or against the ideas).
