Following the death of an unarmed fourteen year old boy by a police officer tensions are high. During a demonstration a Molotov cocktail is thrown and a policewoman is badly burnt; the assailant escapes. Not long afterwards there is a lethal attack on a group of police officers and cadets. Beck's team leads the investigation; it isn't helped by the fact that the two officers who were the first on the scene are those Beck considers to be the worst in Sweden! His grandson, a police cadet who should have been on the bus, helps with the investigation.
I was rather surprised to see the very negative reviews for this episode as I thought it was the best of the season and rather enjoyed it. Things started well with the demonstration and escalated nicely after the murderous attack on the police. Suspects quickly emerge, although I'm sure most viewers will guess the identity of the culprits early on the motives aren't too obvious. Having Beck's grandson in the investigation felt like the makers were preparing for the series to be able to continue with a Beck in a lead role after Martin's eventual retirement... only time will tell if that theory is right though. As usual the acting was pretty solid throughout. Overall I think I liked this more than most; watch it and make up your own mind.
