A musical Odyssey indeed!
TheLittleSongbird20 April 2012
I love every single aspect of Renee Fleming and Dmitri Hvorostovsky: A Musical Odyssey in St Petersburg. From the exemplary video directing to the scenic wonders of St Petersburg(the golden fountains anyone?) to the splendid ballroom palace interiors. The music is sublime, right from Verdi's Simon Boccanegra and Il Trovatore to Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Queen of Spades, and excerpts of Rachmaninov also. All of which sensitively performed by the orchestra and the pianists. Both Renee Fleming and Dmitri Hvorostovsky(two of the better singers now) are on top form, they are commanding and have chemistry and they both sound wonderful, she with her creamy, creamy soprano, he with his warm, beautiful baritone.

All in all, A Musical Odyssey in St Petersburg is an apt name for such a jewel. 10/10 Bethany Cox
