Stellar Action, Lackluster Plot: An Uneven Ride Through Clichés and Violence
pchs01142 June 2023
The film is well-choreographed and features some impressive fight scenes, but the story is somewhat predictable, and the characters are underdeveloped. Overall, this movie is an entertaining action film for fans of the genre, but viewers should be warned that the film is violent and may not be suitable for everyone. Moreover, despite the action sequences being slightly excessive and featuring a considerable amount of overacting from the entire cast, what truly captivates this movie is the endearing simplicity emanating from the main character, making it a genuinely compelling viewing experience.

It's Not Baby Assassins But Still Fun
tkdlifemagazine26 November 2022
The Violence Action is not Baby Assassins but still fun. The film's title, perhaps, does not translate well. Not sure what it means. The film, like the former one, which was one of the best of 2022, is a Japanese martial arts action film about a young female assassin. The plot is more complicated than that, and involves multi layers of betrayal in the Yakuza. It is a crazy thrill ride of silliness, violence, action, and martial arts. The characters are all larger than life with many comic book like qualities. The cinematography and direction are fast moving and fun. There is underlying heart throughout. The fight choreography is too quirky, fast, and unrealistic for my taste, but there are some good ones. All in all it was a fun time and worth watching.

A good adaptation
adrmabire20 November 2022
This movie adapt the manga of the same name. The original story is more centered around the psychology of the characters but I think that the movie does a pretty good job at balancing psychology and action. Unfortunately, Key and Michitaka personalities lacks in comparaison of the manga which is really a strong point in the original story. There is of course some unrealistic moves during action scenes but not a lot which, in my opinion, makes the actions scenes a bit better that other manga's adaptations.

Overall I think it is a good movie and I hope that there will be a second one given that there is some crazy action in the manga.

A swing and a miss...

A swing and a miss...

Granted, I had never heard about this 2022 movie before stumbling upon it on Netflix. And with it being a Japanese movie that I hadn't already seen, then of course I had to watch it. Plus, the movie's cover/poster definitely had that unique Japanese thing going on, where you know you'll probably be in for a crazy ride.

First of all, let's just look at the questionable and stupid title of the movie, "The Violence Action", which makes zero sense in any way, aside from detailing what the movie has to offer.

So, yeah, even without ever having heard of this movie from writers Itaru Era and Tôichirô Rutô, then I had some expectations.

They were short-lived though, because the storyline utterly fell short of entertaining me. And running at nearly two hours, the prospects of making it through in one piece were bleak. This movie was difficult to sit through, especially since it was lacking proper entertainment value.

I am sure that the acting was fine, however, I just couldn't abhor from the chaotic storyline that was all over the place and yet nowhere altogether. I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble, and that is usually something I enjoy in movies, but it was just not working out here, because of a lousy script and storyline.

The character gallery in the movie was not well-written, so it was difficult to find anything worthwhile in the characters on the screen. In fact, I have to admit that I didn't care an ounce about whom they were or what happened to the as the chaotic narrative unfolded.

Visually then "The Violence Action" was quite good. Over the top, sure, but enjoyable and counted for something. But it just wasn't enough to make up for the shortcomings of director Tôichirô Rutô's movie.

"The Violence Action" was a swing and a miss, and it is not a movie that I would recommend to fans of the Japanese action cinema.

My rating of "The Violence Action" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

Violence + Action, that's it
daisukereds6 December 2022
Overly edited and stylized, this movie offers cut-aplenty nonsense-Action, cheap CGI and lots of editing jumps that only distract.

Sure it is quite energetic and pretend to have emotional tones and quirky characters, but it comes off as clumsy and awkward.. like someone's debut high-school 90s project (with music usage to match). The story and dialogue is nothing to write about, either. Ultimately confusing story-lines and boring developments. It's not appealing or memorable.. not even the charming and weird Kanna Hashimoto could save this.

Hard to recommend, and I would like my 2 hours back.

Plenty of imagination, but no real budget
Leofwine_draca16 August 2023
THE VIOLENCE ACTION is an example of the kind of film that ensues when your budget doesn't match your imagination. It's yet another story of a group of assassins who find themselves facing their greatest peril, yet the whole thing is so plotless, so silly, so made-up-as-they-go-along that it becomes difficult to watch. As the title would suggest, it does have a wealth of action sequences and killing throughout, but there's too much emphasis on silly editing and wirework for my liking; put it this way, they're not going for realism here. It's passable, just about, but it fails to enthrall, and the rest is just amateurish.

Yakuza, assassins, action and slapstick
Tweekums19 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This Japanese action comedy is centred on Kei Kikuno, a pink haired college student who is also an assassin. She works for a group that operate out of a noodle restaurant. Other members of her team include Kura, who wears a bulletproof wig; a sniper named Daria and Watanabe, a classmate who ends up as the new recruit after witnessing a fight in the restaurant. Their latest job is to kill a man who has stolen ¥100,000,000 from the Yakuza and retrieve the money. This is somewhat complicated by the fact that Kei already knows the man. The situation is further complicated by the presence of Michitaka-kun, a virtually indestructible killer who keeps showing up.

If you like your action gritty and realistic this won't be for you. If however you are in the mood for plenty of slapstick mixed with over-the-top action it is rather fun. The opening scenes give a good taste of what is to come as first we see Kei in action than the humour as she interacts with Kura as they drive away. The humour is all fairly silly, but still quite fun. There is plenty of good solid action; this is less bloody than one might expect from such a film. There is also some action that was a bit too unrealistic for my taste, not enough to spoil my overall enjoyment of the film. The characters were a lot of fun; especially Kei. Kanna Hashimoto did a fine job in the role; playing it fairly straight and being very cute without being overtly sexual. I wasn't too surprised to learn that the film is based on a manga as it often felt like a live action anime; right down to Kei's pink hair. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to anybody who enjoys some slapstick comedy with their action.

These comments are based on watching the film in Japanese with English subtitles.

call Gramps and tell him the 70s is back
A_Different_Drummer20 November 2022
In the 1970s "mix" films, films that could not decide if they were serious or satire, were very popular. (Check out for example the Matt Helm series with Dean Martin). This film, oddly, seems to retrieve that vibe, presenting the story of a high school girl who is also a professional killer in a style closer to anime or a comic strip, than to than real life. Even the action sequences are speeded up, constantly reminding the viewer that nothing on the screen is real. To be honest, that was a tough sell in the 70s, and an even tougher sell today. The only redeeming quality is Kanna Hashimoto, playing the lead, who thankfully has a natural sweetness that comes across. On the bright side, your six year old will find this film absolutely fascinating. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." A "B" for effort, "C" for results
tabuno22 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Great beginning for a light-hearted assassin movie but descends into an almost unbelievable parody with a rather lame chase scene and an evil, sadistic best in the world assassin bordering on a Jaws-like character from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). With uneven pacing and unnecessarily slow, boring moments unlike the more compelling The Equalizer (2014) and its use of slow more pertinent and relevant scenes or the balanced wit of Daisy & Violet (2011), The Violence Action only offers up a series of creative and fascinating teasing performances of the delightful protagonist's female character. What could have been a rather exciting and well-crafted assassin movie gets lost in the scriptwriter's over-manipulation of the storyline. With the imbalance between action scenes that work and the inconsistency of the protagonist's brilliance and unexpected lack of experience in using her skills, the movie seems to lose its way and some of the potent punch that The Violence Action could have been. Too often the evil assassin is allowed to avoid the more realistic death from a lethal slicing arterial blow instead is allowed to be stabbed or survives a more creative used-nail weapon in the stomach attack and lives unfazed from two gunshot wounds. The contemporary assassin movie Bullet Train (2022) set in Japan would have been a great template to copy. Taken as a whole, The Violence Action attempts to be something better, has some intriguing dialogue, performances, and scenes, but falls apart in too many places and is overly and unnecessarily complicated to be superb. Still it is watchable if one is in need of some fun, somewhat mindless assassination action.

Good Action Movie
stunnerman19 November 2022
This movie has everything you look in an action movie I must say. It has funny parts, intense parts, goofy parts you name it. The female lead comes of as a legit badass. The movie is also one you cannot take seriously cause of the fight scenes but i am sure it was done to make it not be too serious and to make a person want to to sit and watch it to the is gore to an extent but not all that and it doesn't have nudity or even kiss scenes. It is all action. I must say everyone played their part but the cleaner is indestructible. I should hire him cause he can get the job done. Well all in all great.
