Creators Neil Pagedar and Pooja Shetty of the new sci-fi comedy series "Ok Computer" feel it is time for us to become aware of how artificial intelligence is affecting life and lifestyle around us. "If science and technology is moving so fast, how quickly should civilisation, laws, lifestyle and structure change and be aware of these things? This was what we wanted to do with the show. The central premise of the show is that if AI kills a human being, who is to blame? Our life is surrounded by Artificial Intelligence. What will you do if your phone kills someone? These are very important and pertinent questions," said Shetty.
Can technology overpower human beings in future? "The question isn't really how or when technology will overpower humankind, the questions is what humankind intends to do with that technology. In the hands of an oppressor, even the most positive technology can turn into a weapon.

Anand Gandhi’s debut feature “Ship of Theseus” is undoubtedly one of the finest Indian films of the last decade. It marked a significant shift in the perception of cinema in the country and was met with widespread critical acclaim at foreign film festivals. Gandhi’s magnum opus was awarded the National Film Award for Best Feature along with several other prestigious international accolades.
Although “Ship of Theseus” is a fascinating examination of contemporary Indian society, its grand vision is supported by a construct that is mythological in nature. Gandhi takes the eponymous paradox from Ancient Greece and transforms it into an inquiry of personal identity and post-humanism. The paradox famously asked whether a ship would remain the same if all its individual parts were replaced, begging the inevitable question: are we the sum of all our parts or is there something more to it?

Gandhi says his new effort, about artificial intelligence (AI), explores the "legal frameworks" that have to be put in place between "organic species" and the "cloud-based intelligence system". He says the advent of AI has changed a lot of things and the series talks about the co-existence of the two.
"We have witnessed, in the last couple of decades, the true potential of computers and AI in our lives, and how it has resulted in a huge number of human enterprises being replaced by computing and AI. “Miss Lovely” was the independent film from India that competed in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes Film Festival in 2012. 2013 was one of the best years of the Indian history of independent cinemas.Even though the Indian independent cinema collective has made its presence felt in the beginning of 2000 itself, they were made to stay away with bowed heads out of an imposed inferiority of untouchability. However , the decisions of the national film award juries of 2013 brought them to the front rows. That year, Anand Gandhi’s “Ship of Theseus” was selected as the best film and Ashim Ahluwalia’s “Miss Lovely” got the special jury award for best film. These two films respectively got the award for the best female actor in a supporting role and best production design also.
Other than the year 2015 , all years that followed also were that of the success stories of the independent cinemas.

He's one guy who can play the role of a monk and the role of a baddie with equal aplomb. We're talking about the very talented Neeraj Kabi who impressed us in Ship Of Theseus and the recently released Detective Byomkesh Bakshy.
So did the film meet his expectations in terms of the response he got for his performance and the overall response of the film? "Yes, it did. In fact, it went a little beyond that as well. It is a product that is complete in its own and it does not need recognition of the audience. It already made its mark the day we saw it," says the actor confidently.
Ask him if Detective Byomkesh Bakshy helped him reach more people than Ship Of Theseus and he says, "A lot of people have called up. It falls under mainstream. Ship Of Theseus still does not fall under mainstream cinema.

After having won acclaims galore from almost everyone alike for his stellar performance in the film Ship Of Theseus, Sohum Shah will now be seen in the character role of a flirtatious guy next door in director Khalid Mohammad's remake of the yesteryear's cult film Katha. Sohum will be playing the role of Bashudev, which was played by the legendary actor Farooque Shaikh in the original. Speaking about the same, Sohum said that Khalid had met him with another subject earlier, which did not work out. After getting the rights of the Katha remake, when Khalid offered him the role, he instantly agreed. When asked about the but-obvious comparison with the late Farooque Shaikh, Sohum said that Farooque sahib had his distinctive style and that he will be interpreting the character as per today's times. He added that it was indeed a delight to bring back this beautiful story...

Guneet Monga, producer of Ritesh Batra’s The Lunchbox, has championed the fast-growing new wave of Indian cinema.
Speaking to Screen on stage at the Zurich Summit, Monga said: “Since 2008, there has been a major shift in the number of Indian films outside of Bollywood that are generating strong box office. This new wave cannot be ignored.”
Monga, the co-founder of Sikhya Entertainment and CEO of Anurag Kashyap Films, added that the international opportunities for Indian cinema were considerable.
“In Germany, major Bollywood film My Name Is Khan made $500,000 at the box office, while The Lunchbox made $1.5m,” Monga told delegates at The Dolder Grand Hotel.
“The difference is huge and the opportunities are huge. We just need to establish an international distribution pipeline.”
India is the guest country of Zurich Film Festival’s New World View strand and includes titles such as Monsoon Shootout, produced by Monga, Title and Ship of Theseus.

Exclusive: Hugo Weaving is in talks to star in fantasy period drama Bird Eclipse, the next project from Ship Of Theseus director Anand Gandhi.
Ship Of Theseus star Sohum Shah will also star in Bird Eclipse, which has been selected for Ontario Media Development Corporation’s annual International Financing Forum at Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff). Ship Of Theseus premiered at Tiff in 2012.
Spanning three decades post World War II, Bird Eclipse follows the illegitimate son of a feudal family who is searching for treasure hidden under a dilapidated mansion guarded by a fallen god.
Weaving is being lined up to play the role of a dubious poppy-trading South African, who follows his friend to the house and is afflicted by a curse that makes him a sleeping immortal.

This week, Doctor Who continued what may be the running theme of series eight: what makes Doctor Who Doctor Who. I’m not sure if that should be a statement or a question or both. Last week, the philosophical concern with his identity was a sort of “Ship of Theseus” paradox regarding his physical regenerations. Is he the same if so much of him is different? This time it’s the question of whether or not he’s good. And are any soldiers good, if they’ve killed? Is he any better than a Dalek if his hatred of them is as powerful an influence on one of them as is their intrinsic hatred of everything else? The episode, “Into the Dalek,” made me wonder about Peter Capaldi‘s casting and whether it is okay or expected that we think of the actor’s past work while watching this. Thanks to his well-known role as Malcolm Tucker...

Tabu, a very old favorite of Gulzar and his family, is back in the family's fold. The actress who considers the poet-filmmaker her father-figure has starred in his last two directorial ventures Maachis and Hu Tu Tu. Tabu also played the lead in Gulzar Saab's daughter's directorial debut Filhaal. Now she's back in Meghna's new directorial project entitled Talwar. Tabu steps into a role originally offered to Shefali Shah. Talwar also stars Irrfan Khan and Sohum Shah, that wonderful actor from Anand Gandhi's Ship Of Theseus. Gulzar Saab's reticent daughter Meghna Gulzar began shooting for her third feature film on Tuesday morning with minimum fanfare. The project has been entitled Talwar and the film is said to be based on the Aarushi Talwar murder case. Apparently, Meghna's father has given the film its title; just as he has titled Megha's two earlier feature films Filhaal and Just Married.

Recently, a friend called me after having attended a talk from a leading ‘indie’ producer of Mumbai. The talk was meant to give young, ‘indie’ cinema enthusiasts, an insight into the world of ‘indie’ cinema finance, production and distribution. The producer gushed about Anurag Kashyap on more than one occasion. He is a genius. He has an eye. My friend, who had recently been to a few of these talks, called me with a slightly perplexing question – why is the name of Anurag Kashyap ubiquitous at such places?
why Anurag Kashyap is synonymous with the Indian ‘Indie’ scene – it is quite simply, because he ‘belongs’ to the scene. Or as his growing legion of admirers would put it, he ‘is’ the scene.
To a lot of people who work in the film industry, this is a non-question to begin with. The Anurag Kashyap success story is a well-documented one.

The Transylvania International Film Festival (May 30 - June 8) takes place in the second biggest Romanian city after Bucharest, and the unofficial capital of the historical province of Transylvania, Cluj-Napoca. The fest will screen 12 daring features by six first time and six second time directors in its main competition. Last year, the Transylvanian Trophy went to the highly acclaimed Indian drama, The Ship of Theseus, which happened to also win the best cinematography award. The fest's artistic director Mihai Chirilov, asks the following, referring to this year´s crop of competition titles: "How many fiction films - borderline documentaries - about albino Afro-Americans are there? How hard is it to make a two-character film, with time and space unity, without turning it into a theatre...

“Proposition for a Revolution” is a feature documentary chronicling the journey of India’s Aam Aadmi Party (Aap), from its birth to fighting its debut elections in New Delhi.
Over the last few years, the world saw a wave of spontaneous peoples’ movements, from Arab Springs to the Occupy Movement to India’s very own anti-corruption Janlokpal movement, where people came out on the streets in large numbers, asking for stronger anti-corruption laws. What is unique in the Indian story is that some of the protesters decided to form a political party and fight statewide elections in New Delhi. Our film chronicles the journey of the Aam Aadmi Party or the Common Man’s Party from its formation in November 2012 to the Delhi state elections in December 2013. Our documentary film is currently in post-production stage with over 400 hours of footage. We are editing right now. We seek your support to...

Ghost Ship: Gandhi’s Debut an Enjoyably Philosophical Triptych
Finally seeing a release after its 2012 premiere, Anand Gandhi’s directorial debut, Ship of Theseus is an engaging philosophical exploration of, among many things, the meaning of life and discernable identity. Hardly as weighty or sententious as that sounds on paper, the film belongs to a growing cluster of recent independent offerings from India that exist far away from the realm of Bollywood, a fact that may conflate a struggle to find an audience. While a running time of nearly two and half hours may seem equally daunting, Gandhi, who also wrote the script, has created an intelligent, three pronged portrait of life in modern day Mumbai that neither taps into doldrums or dramatics. While it sometimes feels a bit heavy-handed, certain lengthy passages of dialogue and a uniting finale are two areas that may grate, it’s a grandly...
