Not a week after the SAG-AFTRA strike ended, CBS is the first broadcast network out of the gate with a game plan for the delayed regular TV season.
CBS’ schedule, which kicks off in February 2024 — right after getting loads of promotion during its airing of the Super Bowl — is nearly identical to the Fall TV slate announced back in May, when the WGA strike was getting underway. The only differences are that Kathy Bates’ new Matlock series has been pushed to the 2024-25 TV season (as has the Wayanses’ Poppa’s House sitcom; more on those delays here), and CSI: Vegas...

“East New York” star Ezra Knight guest stars on Tuesday night’s “Found” as a doorman who seeks out Gabi’s (Shanola Hampton) help for a missing man he thinks the police wouldn’t bother to search for.
In this exclusive clip, which you can watch above, Cliff (Knight) shares a video of his missing friend Reggie with Gabi. When she asks why he hasn’t reported the disappearance to the authorities, he says he came to her “because I know you care for everyone.”
Says Cliff, “I’m just not confident that police would care about a missing gay widower in his 70s. And it’s only been two days and my only real evidence is the absence of our morning conversations.” He adds that the residents of his building mostly don’t acknowledge him but that, “Reggie sees me. He’s a good person.”
The series, which debuted on Oct.

When CBS canceled Magnum P.I. in 2022 after four seasons, it was one of the most shocking cancellations of a TV series. Ever.
With ratings across the board dipping more and more each year, Magnum P.I. Season 4 had remarkable resilience.
It was one of the network's most-watched shows and delivered solid viewership on the lesser-viewed Friday nights in the U.S.
Had Fire Country not been a part of the network's agenda for the 2022-23 season, there's a good chance Magnum P.I. would have remained on the network for another couple of seasons.
At the time of its cancellation, CBS had many shows on deck for the following season and didn't think moving Magnum P.I. to another night would benefit the show.
Thus, the network axed the successful series after four seasons, leaving the passionate fans who tuned into the show for years wondering what would become of their favorite show.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the East New York Season 1 finale, “Ruskin Roulette.”] East New York came to an end at CBS on Sunday, May 14 after just one season. But will that be the end of the series altogether? Prior to its cancellation on May 9, the series’ creators shopped the show around in an attempt to save it. The attempts were unsuccessful, but co-creator and executive producer Mike Flynn wrote to fans on Instagram on May 9 that “our journey doesn’t have to end here,” indicating his commitment to getting the cop drama to a new network. The show built a large fan base in its freshman season, and in fact had higher viewership than other renewed CBS shows. Those fans have made their voices heard following its cancellation. “I love East New York! I’ve watched every episode, it is currently one of my favorite new shows, CBS please change your mind and pick it...

If East New York had to wrap things up, this was how to do it.
East New York Season 1 Episode 21, they ended the official police business a few minutes early so that it could end with the 7-4 celebrating being together and the work they each do to make a difference in their community.
It underscored how important this series was and how huge a hole it'll leave in our hearts.
Throughout the hour, I was scared that Donaldson might get his way now that the series was ending. Thankfully, East New York ended on a happier note than that!
But could that man have been any more of an asshole? He claimed that Reigna was a "divisive" figure, but the only one doing any dividing was him.

Despite a sizable outcry from devoted fans, East New York ended its one-season run on CBS Sunday.
The Warner Bros. TV series from creators William Finkelstein and Mike Flynn wrapped with a sentimental gathering of its leads having one last drink together — Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood (the terrific Amanda Warren), Assistant Chief John Suarez (Jimmy Smits), Det. Crystal Morales (Elizabeth Rodriguez), Det. Tommy Killian (Kevin Rankin), Officer Brandy Quinlan (breakout Olivia Luccardi), Officer Marvin Sandeford (Ruben Santiago-Hudson), Officer Andre Bentley (Lavel Schley) and Capt. Stan Yenko (Richard Kind).
Yenko gave a toast to Haywood, who thanked her for bringing him back onto the force where he “came to love it all over again.” His words brought Haywood to tears.
The episode wrapped up a double homicide from the previous episode in Ruskin Gardens, where Quinlan had been living as part of Haywood’s unique initiative to have officers live in crime-ridden areas.

Marcia Gay Harden as Margaret and Jeffrey Nordling as Gus Easton in ‘So Help Me Todd’ episode 21
Fortunately, So Help Me Todd received an early season two renewal, so episode 21 is just the season finale and not the end of the series. The network’s other new dramas – True Lies and East New York – said goodbye after just one season, but So Help Me Todd‘s impressive ratings earned it a spot on CBS’s 2023-2024 primetime lineup.
Episode 21, “Are You There Todd? It’s Me, Margaret,” was written by Scott Prendergast and directed by Nancy Hower. The season finale airs on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 9pm Et/Pt.
Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden stars as Margaret Wright, Skylar Astin plays Todd Wright, and Tristen J. Winger is Lyle. Madeline Wise plays Allison, Inga Schlingmann is Susan, and Rosa Arredondo stars as Francey.

East New York was cancelled by CBS earlier this week, but there is still some hope that the series could be saved and renewed for a second season. The show's studio, Warner Bros Television, had started to informally shop the series to other outlets in recent weeks when renewal talks with CBS weren't going as well as hoped.
Starring Amanda Warren, Jimmy Smits, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Kevin Rankin, Richard Kind, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Olivia Luccardi, and Lavel Schley, East New York revolves around the officers and detectives of the 74th precinct in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Regina's potential job loss was supposed to be the exciting end of East New York's first season.
But with the sad news that East New York has been canceled despite performing well in a difficult time slot, East New York Season 1 Episode 21 will now be its swan song.
It sucks that this gritty cop drama will soon be gone, but at least we get to spend one last hour with the cops of the 7-4.
The conflict between Regina and Suarez, brewing all season, will come to a head after a tragic shooting.
Spoilers say this incident will lead higher-ups to question Regina's leadership. If the series were returning, I'd guess Regina would win this battle -- if not now, then in the fall.

CBS is supersizing two of its signature reality franchises: “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race” will permanently expand to 90-minute episodes next season, the network announced Thursday morning as it unveiled its 2023-2024 TV lineup.
The Eye network went first with its fall plans, but there’s a caveat to it all: The writers strike means it’s very likely that primetime won’t look at all like this come September. And indeed, CBS already has contingency plans in place, including several unscripted series waiting in the wings.
But for now, CBS will head into fall with a primetime schedule that looks nearly identical to its current one. The Wednesday switch to just “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race,” for example, simply takes the night’s current 10 p.m. inhabitant, the canceled “True Lies,” out of the equation. Last fall, CBS opened the season with three reality shows on the night: “Survivor,...

CBS has always been high on the franchise, but it will be interesting to see where it lands on the schedule after The Good Fight went to Paramount+.
Meanwhile, Matlock, headlined by Kathy Bates, has landed a formal pickup.

Fans of S.W.A.T. rejoiced when the network reversed its cancellation decision and renewed the veteran procedural for a 13-episode seventh and final season. But that tipped the scale for another CBS cop drama, freshman East New York, which was canceled shortly after. And in a case of bad timing, by being axed during a writers strike, East New York is far less likely to get a reprieve.
While not as established as S.W.A.T., East New York, starring Amanda Warren, has developed a loyal following, and its cancellation has sparked a backlash, especially in light of the fact that the cop show drew bigger linear numbers than two other CBS drama series that have been renewed for next season, fellow freshman So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas, both of which come from CBS’ sister studios CBS Studios.

While there’s little chance CBS will pull another S.W.A.T. and un-cancel East New York, all hope is not lost for the axed procedural.
