Hyderabad, Nov 30: Nagarjuna's fans had huge expectations on his socio fantasy entertainer 'Damarukam' featuring Anushka, directed by Srinivas Reddy. However it turned out to be huge disappointment for them as the movie has been postponed for several times yet failed to see the limelight due to the financial troubles of producers Rr Movie Makers. Continuous postponements of the film disappointed fans so much that they broke loose and attacked theaters loosing their cool. They were at their wits end as to what was wrong with the film and their hero.

It's finally here. After months and months of teasing and a release date postponed by, of all things, financial woes between producers and money men, Nagarjuna's hardcore socio-fantasy CG spectacle Damarukam has arrived in theaters around the world. The trailers were enough to lure me into the cinema for this piece of insanity, and coming out of the film I suppose I can say that I got what I paid for. Damarukam is a massive pile of mediocre to above average FX shots mashed together with a love story and some goofball comedy just to keep you on your toes, which makes it about average in the grand scheme of things with a few bonus points for some sharp looking CG that is pretty damned...

Even though I'm still stinging a bit from the disappointment of 2010's promised Telugu socio-fantasy blockbuster, Shakti, my faith in South Indian fantasy remains steadfast. The latest film to catch my eye is the upcoming Damarukam, starring Nagarjuna and Anushka Shetty. The trailer looks completely bonkers and not only does it include angry deities, but also the amazingly elaborate south Indian weaponry that Tollywood does so well.The socio-fantasy is a film genre that is very specific to south Indian film, and Tollywood in particular. Most of these films involve earthbound humans interacting, and often attempting to outsmart or outfight, Hindu deities or other spiritual beings.
