We’re only a handful of days into the New Year, but we’re already receiving news of what movies and TV shows will leave Netflix UK in February 2024.
In case you missed it, we’re also keeping track of all of the movies and TV shows leaving Netflix UK in January 2024. If you’re looking for the US removals list, you can find all the departures for those in our February list here.
As a reminder, we typically get word of Netflix removals around 30 days before they’re due to happen. Netflix removes titles because much of its library consists of licensed titles. The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Ravenous was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Victoria Verduzco, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
1999, a year of hope, a year of high fashion, nooo, no… 1999, the year when people prepared for Y2K, the year of all the odd choices when it came to fashion, and the year of interesting cinematic options. We got The Mummy which gave us all the hot cast members we could ask for and still gives us memes, we got End of Days, Stigmata, Idle Hands, House on Haunted Hill, The Haunting, Stir of Echoes, and The Blair Witch Project. It was a year for surprising hits, shocking failures, and offbeat horror films. So many smaller budgets did so well. Also out in 1999 was this movie about cannibalism in the olden days of the United States,...

Jacob Tremblay is set to co-star alongside Peter Dinklage in Legendary’s “Toxic Avenger” film, a reboot of Troma Entertainment’s 1984 low-budget action-comedy splatter film.
The reboot will follow a mild-mannered janitor at a health club who’s pushed out of a second-story window by bullies into a vat of toxic waste. The chemicals cause him to transform into a hideously deformed mutant gifted with superhuman size and strength. The original film generated four sequels: “The Toxic Avenger Part II,” “The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie” and “Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV.” The franchise expanded into an animated children’s TV series spin-off called “Toxic Crusaders,” a musical stage production and a Marvel comic book series.

As if September hasn’t already been filled to the brim with incredible movies and shows, Netflix is bringing even more to you today in the largest content drop since the first of the month. With a handful of documentaries, a popular children’s flick, and new seasons of some great shows, there’s something for everyone on this exciting release day.
To begin with, The Smurfs 2 lands on the platform today, ensuring that any kids in the house are certain to sit still for a few hours. Plus, although the sequel is widely considered worse than the original and holds only a 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, you may find some harmless and inoffensive fun if you grew up watching the classic show.
Elsewhere, beloved series like Ancient Aliens and Pawn Stars are getting additional seasons today, too. The former is finally having its third season added, while the latter...

There’s a reason why you’ve probably never heard of Erika Rosenbaum. An attractive, intelligent, and ostensibly talented Canadian actress who stepped off the bus in Los Angeles with nothing but a dream to her name, Rosenbaum was no less prepared or deserving than any of the legendary screen idols who had inspired her to reach for the stars. Lana Turner was famously discovered at a malt shop, so why not her? Twenty years later, Rosenbaum’s most prestigious role to date is Bartocci Customer #2 in “Brooklyn.” Before that, she was Pregnant Mom in “The Smurfs 2” and Cashier in a TV movie called “Abducted: Fugitive for Love.” But while it’s true that a prayer and a pretty smile aren’t enough to guarantee a successful career in show business, there’s reason to believe that she never had a fair shot at having one.

MaryAnn’s quick take… An essential history lesson with a smart smack of relevance for today (because feminism always has to be relitigated). It’s also warm, funny, and hugely entertaining. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m desperate for movies about women
I’m “biast” (con): not a sports fan at all
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
That saying about those not remembering the past being condemned to repeat it? Of course it’s true… but sometimes it’s not an accident that the past gets forgotten. Sometimes the squashing of history — and the continuation of history into the present — is deliberate. Feminists know this: Women are constantly having to reinvent feminism, refight the same battles, because they don’t stay won. A brief moment of small triumph very quickly gets drowned out by major cultural pushback; women may savor victory only long enough...

Saturday Am Update: WB and New Line's Annabelle: Creation is off to an excellent start, bringing in an estimated $15 million on Friday (including $4 million from Thursday previews) on its way to a weekend around $35 million if not more. It's also great news for director David F. Sandberg who helmed last year's hit Lights Out for WB. That film went on to gross nearly $150 million worldwide on a budget under $5 million. The film received a "B" CinemaScore, matching the score for the first film. Open Road's The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature is performing even worse than expected, delivering an estimated $3 million on Friday. This is already shaping up to be the lowest opening for a film playing in over 4,000 theaters by a wide margin. Currently the worst opening for an opening that size belongs to The Emoji Movie with $24.5 million, but with the $9 million or so Nut Job 2 is...

Box OfficeThe real Lost Village for these iconic characters is Fanville.
My two-and-a-half-year-old daughter was watching TV yesterday when a Smurfs: The Lost Village commercial came on. “Trolls!” she shouted, mistaking the new movie about little blue creatures for the recent movie about little pink and orange and blue creatures. One bunch wears white hats, the other has crazy hair, but it’s easy to see how they could be confused, especially by a toddler. And she didn’t even see any footage of Gargamel, whose Smurf-consuming desires are akin to the Bergens and their taste for Trolls.
Did Trolls trump Smurfs, causing the latter to open much lower than initial expectations? The Lost Village had originally been projected for a $20m opening, if not slightly more. Then The Boss Baby became a hit last weekend, and predictions fell to $15m-$18m, the higher end of that range being what the live-action/CG hybrid The Smurfs 2 debuted...

Zach Braff’s Going in Style earned $600,000 Thursday evening to top other newcomer Smurfs: The Lost Village, the third installment in Sony's animated franchise, which took in $375,000 in previews.

I figured it was the live-action that was the problem.
The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2 were, for the most part, rambunctious, asinine, lazily written child distractors, the cinematic equivalent of a big, bouncing blue ball. It bounces up and down, up and down, up and down, and eventually, something gets smashed or broken, but the kid is (seemingly) transfixed. But amongst the drivel, there were always shining little moments of promise and potential. They came near the top of the films, as we watched our CG Smurfs interact in their animated environment known as Smurf Village, away from their dreaded, pointless impending visit to the Big Apple. These segments were lively, engaging, inspired and, dare I say it, kinda fun. They were everything the resulting 80 minutes (and change) weren’t, a glimpse into what could’ve been if Sony Animation decided to cut their losses and stick with the animation.

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
Three New Movies May Have Trouble Making Much of a Mark
After a couple impressive March weekends with one new box office record, and a couple impressive openings, we’re now into April, and of the new movies, there just doesn’t seem like anything can defeat last week’s powerful duo of DreamWorks Animation’s The Boss Baby--which exceeded all predictions with $49 million, taking the top spot from Beauty and the Beast. Ghost in the Shell didn’t even do as well as I thought it may, opening with just $19 million, those late reviews helping to kill its weekend.

We've already seen some strong performances at the box office this year all of which have contributed to the yearly domestic box office topping $3 billion in ticket sales faster than it ever has before. Last weekend, The Boss Baby became the fifth release of 2017 to top $50 million at the weekend box office and while this weekend won't see similar returns for the week's new wide releases, it's the relative calm before the storm as Universal's The Fate of the Furious debuts next weekend, sure to become the year's second $100+ million opener. As for this weekend, the top twelve may struggle to reach $120 million collectively as both Smurfs: The Lost Village and Going in Style are looking at relatively soft openings while Pure Flix's The Case for Christ should find a spot in the lower half of the weekend top ten. At the top of the box office it's looking like...

Don't look for any of the three new movies opening nationwide this weekend to be the boss of hearty pre-Easter holdovers The Boss Baby and Beauty and the Beast, both of which could earn in the high $20 million range, if not more.
The staying power of the two family films are going to make life especially tough for Sony's animated Smurfs: The Lost Village, which is projected to debut in the mid-teen millions.
Lost Village was intended to reboot the film series after The Smurfs 2, released in 2013, did far less business than The Smurfs (2011). Boasting...

“The Boss Baby” (20th Century Fox) and “Beauty and the Beast” (Disney) should take the top slots this early spring weekend, but the DreamWorks Animation comedy isn’t guaranteed to hold on to number one.
We’re in the middle of staggered school spring vacation season, so family-oriented films abound. That explains Sony’s release of “Smurfs: The Lost Village,” which looks to do best among the three new wide releases. However, “Going in Style” (Warner Bros.) and “The Case for Christ” (PureFlix) are less predictable with their respective older and faith-based core audiences.

This looks like another weekend that will outpace last year’s, when the top 10 grossed $91 million; expect this one to reach at least $100 million.

When it comes to movies about the Belgian cartoonist Peyo’s diminutive, liberty-cap-wearing, blue-skinned Schtroumpfs (or Smurfs, as well call them), being “good enough” means exceeding all expectations. Their first, Peyo-directed cinematic outing, released in this country as The Smurfs And The Magic Flute, is notable only for a song score that The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg’s Michel Legrand seemed to have composed in the midst of a mental breakdown; the decades-later attempts to turn the mushroom-dwelling humanoids into a Hollywood live-action franchise, in The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2, are simply dire. But now comes Smurfs: The Lost Village, an inoffensive children’s film with an above-average voice cast, competent animation, and no product placement. This is enough to make it the finest film ever made about the Smurfs.

It’s shaping up to be a quiet weekend at the multiplexes. “The Fate of the Furious” is still revving up its engines, gearing up for what’s expected to be a massive opening when it roars onto screens on April 14, 2017. That leaves a trio of smaller new releases looking to make a mark before Vin Diesel and company blot out everything within the general vicinity of a movie theater. The latest “Fast & Furious” will have no trouble topping $100 million in its first weekend of release.
“This is the calm before the storm,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at ComScore.
“Smurfs: The Lost Village” is shaping up to be the strongest performer among the newcomers with a debut of between $15 million to $16 million. The family film is an attempt by Sony to reinvigorate a franchise that deflated.

Ultra HD Blu-ray is enjoying some small victories, it seems. But there's a long way to do...
It’s still a format that’s flying under many people’s radars, but Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray discs are enjoying some small success at retail. In the Us at least.
See related Star Wars: Rogue One - what we know so far Star Wars: Rogue One - upcoming villains rumour round-up Star Wars: upcoming UK movie release dates calendar
The current state of the format sees just shy of 90 titles on sale in America at the moment, and by Christmas, that’ll finally be (well) into three figures. Furthermore, the millionth disc has now been sold in the Us, as well as just north of 80,000 standalone disc players.
This puts it ahead of where the Blu-ray format was at a similar early time in its life cycle.
