National Award winning director and script writer Mangesh Hadawale, who is known for films like Tingya and Dekh Indian Circus, now, dons the hat of creative producer with Marathi movie Tapaal, directed by cinematographer turned director Laxman Utekar.
Ask Laxman how did he associate with Mangesh and he says, "I had long back thought about making a Marathi film. But when I was shooting as a cinematographer for Mangesh Hadawale's Dekh Indian Circus, I discussed about it with Mangesh and asked him to write a nice story for me. He wrote a beautiful story and that is how Tapaal started."
Adds Mangesh, "I have known Laxman for a long time now. There were many common factors between us like - we haven't taken professional training in filmmaking, we both are hardworking etc. over which we bonded. And he discussed the idea of directing a Marathi film and asked me to write a story.

After being the cinematographer for Bollywood biggies like Blue, English Vinglish, Boss, Lekar Hum Deewana Dil and upcoming film Tevar – Laxman Utekar has added another feather to his cap as he turns director for Marathi film, Tapaal.
Talking about his journey of becoming a director, he says, “I used to get a lot of offers to shoot Marathi films, but I didn’t want to shoot them. I always felt that if I shoot a Marathi film, it will also be directed by me. I didn’t want to shoot for somebody else. Because I was already shooting for people in Hindi films.”
He further adds, “After completing Mangesh Hadawale’s Dekh Indian Circus, I narrated a thought to him about the culture and people of my own village. I asked him whether he could weave a story for me and he did that beautifully. The film is the result of our experiences.

There is heartening news for Ketan Mehta's film Mountain Man on Dashrath Manjhi, the impoverished man from the Gaya district of Bihar who cut a road through the mountain in his unreachable village, with his hands. Viacom 18 has acquired the film and are all set to release it worldwide. Rejoicing in the glad tidings actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui who plays the title role in Mountain Man says, "It's the best thing that could've happened to a film like this. Mountain Man is not a small film. It is a very big film because it tells the story of an extraordinary man." Nawaz injured his leg while shooting on location for Mountain Man "This has been my toughest film to shoot. I pushed myself emotionally and physically beyond all endurance. And then to have the film being released in a small way would be heartbreaking." Nawaz says he has been through that heartbreaking process.

Ajay Devgn has taken on a new avatar. Having acted in socially relevant films like Zakham and The Legend Of Bhagat Singh and directed a film on Alzeihmers (U Me Aur Hum) Devgn has now become the messiah of globally acceptable meaningful movies. His production Parched set in Rajasthan is being shot by no less than Russel Carpenter. It is being made as two separate films in English and Hindi. The English version would be sent by Devgn to various festivals across the world.
Russell Carpenter was the cinematographer of James Cameron's Titanic. Interestingly the film is co-produced by a very accomplished Indian cinematographer Aseem Bajaj who has shot Devgn's Golmaal films.
Aseem's wife Leena Yadav (who directed Ben Kingsley and Amitabh Bachchan in Teen Patti) directs Parched.

In response to Dekh Indian Circus playing at the London Indian Film Festival, we are reprinting Christopher Bourne's review from the Nyiff. EnjoyMangesh Hadawale's utterly charming and gorgeously photographed Dekh Indian Circus, which recently screened at the 12th New York Indian Film Festival (Nyiff), is rather innocuous on its surface: a seemingly simple story of a poor mother taking her kids to see the circus, and of the misadventures they encounter along the way. But go a little deeper, and you will find a bitter pill of caustic social satire and sharp political commentary on the millions of people still left behind in India's modern era of technologically driven progress. The film's most pointed barbs are aimed squarely at the corrupt politicians who gain...

Imtiaz Ali is not the only leading filmmaker who has agreed to unconditionally support Mangesh Hadawale's globally feted drama Dekh Indian Circus.

Says the film's producer Mahavir Jain, "Frankly, we were taken aback when after seeing bits of our film Vinod Chopraji insisted that our trailer not only be attached to Ferrari Ki Sawaari but that our trailer would be screened in theatres immediately before their feature film starts.

Mumbai, May 15: After the success of his last directorial "Rockstar", Imtiaz Ali is now on the lookout for a new story.
Asked what's keeping him busy these days, Ali told Ians: "I'm just trying to figure out my next story. So just working towards that."
In the meantime, he has associated himself with Mangesh Hadawale's "Dekh Indian Circus". He is impressed with the movie, and is spreading a word about the film to take it to a larger market.

In this age of cut throat competition, big egos and bigger rivalries, it is heartwarming to see one creative mind support another in pursuit of artistic brilliance. Imtiaz Ali has found a new passion project: not a film that he has written or directed, but one that he has fallen in love with so much that he is presenting the film. The film is called Dekh Indian Circus, and is the second film of National award winning director Mangesh Hadawale, who won universal acclaim for his debut Tingya.

New Delhi, May 11: It is a film he hasn't written, directed or produced. But filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is so touched with Mangesh Hadawale's Hindi movie "Dekh Indian Circus", a tale set in the rural milieu of Rajasthan, that he has decided to present and promote it to take it to a larger audience.
"I'm trying to help this film reach big circles. It is set in Jaisalmer, and is about two kids and an Indian circus. The story has been narrated in an extremely colourful and emotional manner and it is only better that it reaches to a wide audience," Ali told Ians over phone from Mumbai.
