According to Trey Parker, there was strong pressure from Comedy Central and even several employees of South Park Studios to create an alternate ending, as they thought that Mitt Romney had a strong chance of winning the 2012 Presidential election. Parker did roughly plan out such an ending, which would have shown the boys deciding to let Disney keep the Star Wars franchise on the grounds that they couldn't possibly do anything worse than Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999), but ultimately decided not to animate it after he became convinced that Romney wouldn't win the election.
General Tso's name is a running gag referencing General Tso's chicken, a dish served in North American Chinese restaurants.
