Leo joins the Ghostbusters.
Sleepin_Dragon4 November 2015
I'm not sure I like the idea of Leo becoming a member of Ghostbusters, not sure about those possession scenes. It seems to return somewhat to normality with the appearance of Harry and Nikki.

The ending is horrendous, it really doesn't work, it all seems to come out of nowhere.

The try to understand the meaning of death, and raise new arguments that as yet have not been posed in the series before.

It's so far beyond belief, it just doesn't work. All for a case of measles, no chance. 5/10

Silly Mumbo Jumbo
Hitchcoc18 April 2019
These guys are supposed to be investigating actual deaths from actual causes. Whose idea was it to get involved in the supernatural and introduce exorcism. Leo's friend has gotten himself tied up with a young girl who seems to be possessed. She has a blind little brother. This is obfuscation, pure and simple with a meandering plot that never makes any sense. They jumped the shark on tis one.

One of the worst episodes ever and I am angry about something
DWellECON10 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Several others have described this as one of the worst series episodes ever so I won't belabor the point. In addition to everything already mentioned, the whole episode is presented as a recollection by Leo (William Gaminara) sandwiched between a prologue and epilogue of him musing along the lines of "there are more things on heaven and and earth than are dreamt of in you philosophy". Inane and very off-putting.

But that is not what I am angry about. I have been binge watching this series and was aware that this was the last episode in which Harry Cunningham (Tom Ward) would appear and I was very curious how they would deal with his departure. I thought that they were very carefully building up to this. Just a few episodes prior to this (Season 14, Episode 7) in "Bloodlines" we saw the normally "laugh everything off" Dr. Cunningham turn extremely serious when a woman he loves is killed. I think there was even some mention in the following episode of how much it had changed him. And just a few episodes after that, when Harry stays in NIkki Alexander's (Emilia Fox) flat with her temporarily while his is being repaired, the will they/or won't they (fall in love, have sex, get married) nature of their relationship finally gets clarified. They won't.

So I was expecting that at the end of the final episode to offer at least a decent explanation of why he was leaving and some heartfelt goodbyes. Did we get that? Absolutely not. Instead the last we see of Harry is him teasing Nikki like he always did. It is not until the following episode that we get a few words about Dr. Cunningham getting a job in the US. And that's it. How many seasons was he part of the team and all we get is a few sentences of "Oh, he left".

At least when Sam Ryan left they did an episode on her background in Northern Ireland which presumably was to explain why she left. Not the greatest episode either but at least they tried.

WTF?
neapolla24 September 2019
It was probably the worst episode of the whole show... What was I watching? Definitely not the Silent witness but some other very poor show. Cannot believe I wasted 2 hours watching this.

High score for Leo, low score for absurdity
trixie3027 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
When Part 1 started, I was irritated at the tone and direction of the plot. (Well, except for Leo's opening monologue.) So off we went into existential angst and physical death.

I am not sure if we ever knew until this episode the true depth of Leo's dark pit (what many of us call those worst times) during the first months and years of his grieving. I found the revelations into Leo's life and his questioning of how much of Eve's torment could be explained through medical science and how much might be beyond comprehension to be the most interesting part of the episode. As always, William Gaminara gave an outstanding performance working with difficult material.

As the seasons have progressed, we see more and more of our plucky band of pathologists acting like detectives and avenging angels and more. I enjoy that to a degree because this is, after all, fiction. It would be deadly dull if all we saw were the bodies and dialogue into the mics that record the autopsies. But sometimes it simply goes too far.

It's also true that this episode is a psychological and religious debate with little relation to anything that makes sense. I can't argue that it strays far outside the realm of pathology. Or does it? I think it is entirely reasonable that those who study the dead, who search for order and finality in science and do not always find them, would ask to what degree our minds control our reality and whether there are answers that are simply unknowable.

It was a very dark, depressing episode that asked those questions. It's certainly not one I expect to revisit. But I still have to give it an 8 simply because of William Gaminara's performance as Leo.

A tale of possession
Tweekums1 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Having recently split up from his girlfriend Leo takes a break in Essex to visit his old friend; a psychiatrist named Sean Delaney. It quickly becomes apparent that Sean is drinking far too much; he has been affected by the unexplained death of Eve, one of his patients. Hoping to help his friend Leo promises to look into it and find out what caused her death. The problem is there are no obvious reasons for her to have died; it is just 'sudden death syndrome'. Nikki and Harry examine the body again and found no obvious cause of death but they do find signs of only injuries to her hands and feet that can't be explained. Meanwhile Leo learns that the girl, who was a devout Christian, believed herself to be possessed; something that happened in the home she left when her parents lost the house five years previously. When Leo asks the police to take him to her old home he has quite a surprise… it is Sean's house! During the second episode things get even stranger when we learn that Eve was treated by an exorcist on the night of her death and she wasn't the only one to believe they were possessed.

I suspect this story will divide opinion; it felt more like a supernatural chiller than the usual crime drama. The way the action kept flashing back to Sean's talks with Eve without telling us we are looking at past events may alienate some viewers; I however found it was an effective way of making things stranger than they already were and as Jodie Comer was doing such a good job as Eve I was happy to see these scenes. Guest star Adrian Dunbar also performed well as Leo's friend Sean. As a single story this made an interesting change from the usual tales of murder although I wouldn't want to see this kind of story too often as it would totally change the series.

It just gets worse? Where is Amanda Burton and some decent writing when we really need her/it. I am curious whether they have jumped the shark or does it get much worse.

Warning: Spoilers
More shark jumping in store ?

Can hardly wait.

Can I say this? The writers are not of clear mind. That should be sanitized enough.

Plot is convoluted as usual and the the relentless flash back, flash forward, flash back is just plain crazy. Why ?

Ending is atrocious again, finishing nothing.

Beating up a little blind boy is beyond the pale.

C'mon guys wake up and smell the coffee.

Grade is "Incomplete" again.

Why do so many people come here to leave a negative review?
galenbywater-257-82917715 November 2022
This was an ok episode . Those detractors who complain about the "mumbo jumbo" have no business deriding this program . If you were expecting a factual scientific program, you should not watch any more episodes of this entire series. It is what it is. In a real life coroner or pathologist no one would ever act in this manner acting as detective or police. Not at all realistic, but nonetheless it is an entertaining program with stories that are good or great or sometimes miss the mark. We have watched the most recent episodes first and only months ago began the entire series starting with season 10. Better writing and better stories in the latest years. But we continue watching.
