Sling Freestream leads the way with nearly 600 channels, but is quantity the most important thing for Fast platforms?
When streaming services first began to offer free ad-supported streaming TV (Fast) channels, many viewers didn’t see the point. Traditional TV listings were already packed with channels that never attracted much in the way of viewers, so why clutter up the digital spaces with little-watched channels as well? But streaming providers have stacked free ad-supported services with a wide range of desirable content, and now these platforms draw tens of millions of viewers per month to watch live and on-demand content. As demand has grown for this type of free streaming option, so has the supply; a new report from the FASTMaster shows that there are nearly 2,000 individual Fast channels available in the United States alone, and The Streamable’s experts will steer you to the right platform for your viewing preferences.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star keeps her freak flag hidden for a bland trip through the wilderness with predictably sappy results
In early 2021, when it emerged that Ellie Kemper had participated, as a St Louis teenager, in the Veiled Prophet ball, a debutante party run by a group founded by former Confederate officers, the comedian took to Instagram. “I was not aware of the history at the time, but ignorance is no excuse,” went her apology. The remorse she exhibited was only the beginning of what can only be viewed as an extended self-flagellation tour.

April showers bring May flowers, or so the saying goes. Streaming providers are finding that to be true this month, as new data from the TV ratings firm Nielsen shows that streaming usage jumped 2.5% in May, climbing to 36.4% of total TV usage.
The news got even better for the free ad-supported TV (Fast) hub and ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) service The Roku Channel. The service accounted for 1.1% of total TV viewing in the month of May, tying with Peacock and placing it right behind services like Max.

“Lisa, how did we not notice this?” Karamo Brown, co-host of Netflix’s Queer Eye and apparent watcher of Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules, has a lot of questions for Lisa Vanderpump. The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star’s namesake reality series has been a cultural fixture since March, when one of its original stars (Tom Sandoval) was discovered to have been cheating on his longtime partner (Ariana Madix) with her close friend (Raquel Leviss) for over half a year. The resulting implosion, dubbed “Scandoval,” catapulted the 10-season-old reality series about the social-climbing servers at Vanderpump’s West Hollywood restaurants from minor tabloid fodder to White House Correspondents’ Dinner punchline. Naturally, it was also a hot topic during THR’s Reality Roundtable when Vanderpump joined Brown, Ellie Kemper (co-host of The Great American Baking Show) and Keke Palmer (host of Password) over Zoom in early June. In fact, Brown,...

Gabrielle Union says the fictional all-Black cheerleading group known as the Clovers in “Bring It On” were only included in a third of the now classic film because they significantly appealed to test audiences – and filmmakers had shot “fake” scenes for the trailer to make it seem like they’d be in the film more.
It seems like that “Bring It On” subtext happened behind the scenes, as Union — who played Isis in the movie — shared how the Black cheerleading team originally wasn’t given the same screen time as the Toros, the predominately white cheerleading squad.
“The Clovers were only in like a third of the movie, and when they started showing it to test audiences, The Clovers tested through the roof,” Union told Noah Callahan-Bever on the latest episode of Bloomberg’s original series “Idea Generation.”

Roku is the new home of this contest of confections — America’s answer to the hugely popular Great British Baking Show. This iteration, hosted by comedians Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Zach Cherry (Severance), will feature fan-favorite judges from the British series: restaurateur Prue Leith and celebrity chef Paul Hollywood. What convinced Leith to be part of the American competition? “I think I was jealous of Paul doing it!” she jokes. (Hollywood also judged The Great American Baking Show when it was on ABC.) So what will fans see when they tune in? “If they have watched The Great British Baking Show, they will know what to expect,” Leith notes, describing the competition as “an encouraging, kind show where the contestants like each other!” If contestants want to win, they should take note of Leith’s favorite desserts: “Lemon polenta cake in the morning, pasteis de nata (Portuguese custard tart) in the afternoon.

Written by Smolinski, Motherland centers on Julia (the role Kemper has been in talks for over the past several weeks), a working mom for whom nothing is working so she goes looking for her village. With the help of new friends Calvin (Soni) and Liz, Julia discovers she just might succeed at balancing work and parenting from time to time. This is a comedy for anybody who’s dropped their kids at school, breathed a sigh of relief…then realized it’s Sunday.

Exclusive: Roku will not proceed with its ambitious jungle reality series Survival From Above but producer Caravan Media is in advanced stage talks with a UK network over taking on the show.
Deadline understands Roku decided against moving forward with the format several weeks ago, though the ad-supported streamer, which operates in the U.S., UK, Canada and Latin America, declined to comment and so did Caravan.
