Series hits its stride with this one

This has been a good show so far. Talky but engaging, New York but unpretentious, with good performances and just enough mystery to keep you hooked. This episode, though, cranks it up a notch. We're given deeper insight into the character of Libby, and a big piece of this story starts to click into place. Toby's emotional journey is really acute here, and Eisenberg plays it just right. The addition of Christian Slater as the misogynist writer Libby admires adds yet another level. The moments with the kids, the friendships... the heart of this show really shows here, and my wife and I loved it.

Warning: Spoilers
This show has had a How I Met Your Mother but a more dramatic dramedy version to it since day one, and that really hit home tonight. From the main character obsessing over a museum, to just the general dynamic of bad puns between the friends, the similarities are plentiful between the FX on Hulu original series and that long-running CBS sitcom.

That doesn't mean it was all bad though. There's a lot to like here. Edgy, to an extent, but it showcased the struggles of parenthood and growing up, for both the young and the old.

This show is worth watching, even if the tone and pacing remain just a bit odd.
