Here we got the second chapter/half of the 2nd Annual HCA TV Awards and this is called Streaming Night, so you see that here all the online streaming platforms get their own winners. The previous installment was about broadcast and cable programs. Interesting division. I mean not even the Emmys handle it this way, okay they divide between daytime and primetime, but still, this only because otherwise daytime would literally be getting zero awards attention. But back to the HCA Awards now and as you can see from the number in the title, this is already a really new and fresh awards ceremony. Apparently, it all started in 2021, even if the HCA's take on film awards began a bit earlier already. We will see if they continue with this split between broadcast/cable and online streaming. I think the online streaming ceremony we are talking about here was a bit shorter than the first one, but still ran for over two hours, which means that both together made it way past the four-hour mark and even came a bit close to five hours. The writer here was Matthew Cole Weiss, who also worked on the very recent 2023 film awards show for the HCA. This streaming award show here is from 2023 of course, so relatively recent, but not too much. The host was Cameron Esposito here and they had different hosts for both shows. I think she was alright. Her opening was pretty good, but she did not show up a lot later on, which makes sense because she told us that she filled in for Tig Notaro on really short-term basis as said original host had to cancel because of covid. Her joke at the start that people would still think it is Notaro hosting was among the best moments of the night, even if admittedly it was also not good enough to reuse it at the end again. She also did not really do any more comedy then to close the show finally, but just wished everybody a fun time at the after-show party. It was fine. No need to exaggerate or so.

As for the winners, I think it could have been better, could have been worse. "Ted Lasso" dominated the comedy categories here for the most part. Or well, actually not too much. It did win the big prize and also one supporting category, but Sudeikis lost, which was quite a surprise and so did Waddingham. Sounds almost as too much of a coincidence that these two were also not around that evening and that is why the supporting actor then talked about the ones who were there being in a way helpless without their parents when they entered the stage. Looks like the Hollywood critics really adored "Only Murders in the Building" as they gave the acting awards to Martin Short there and also to Selena Gomez. Some of the winners were not present to accept the awards, but Short for example recorded a segment thanking people and also joked about a fresh Botox injection. I must be a bit harsh there too though. Somewhere in the middle of the show, they just threw all the names at us, the names of winners of categories that they apparently did not deem significant enough for whatever reason to include in the main broadcast. I mean I understand that the show was very long anyway and that it was not even 50% of the show with the aforementioned division, but this was still disrespectful and they should find a better solution for the next editions then. Gomez was one example there who was not really part of the main show. They surely did not do the females there any justice because the best actress category got the same loveless treatment and there was even a tie which could have been in inspiringly spectacular moment from the show. Instead, it was rushed in with little attention.

On the drama side, Severance won really big. I am not sure I really wanna see this though. Adam Scott I never liked too much, also on Parks&Rec already, but Britt Lower's and John Turturro's wins are indeed making me a bit curious. "Stranger Things" also did not go home empty-handed. The show may no longer be the interesting new kid on the television block, but still a really young actress took home the win in an important category here. The beautiful Amanda Seyfried won again too and she had a really dominant awards season for "The Dropout". Seth Rogen's win was maybe slightly more surprising. Michael Keaton's was not, but boy there were some big names in his category. Not bad. Anyway, nice win for him and he is always interesting. "Dopesick" also triumphed in the final big category of the night. Gotta give this one a watch too. I think this is pretty much it then. I would say that the overall quality of the outcome here was about the same level as the elaboration on the broadcast and cable awards, maybe slightly better even. Definitely the much better host this one had and this is not saying anything positive about Sloan from the other show as Esposito, like I stated earlier, really had to improvise here. Well, not during the show, but with how she had to fill in and only found one or two days earlier. I guess she could write her jokes during the flight. Oh yeah, one thing I must mention is how actually finally there is apparently indeed a good-quality Chip 'n Dale film out and I remember the theatrical releases people did not like a lot. Cool. I hope there will be a sequel. This first one also won a big award here. I liked the looks of it. On a more negative take, it must be said that sadly Lizzo's show won an award too and there is not really any justification for this to encourage people to not do something about their health when they are putting such a burden on their heart and bloodstream. But this is another story and also a perfect testament of what is wrong with political correctness these days. Sometimes, it extends to the movies.

As I am getting closer to the end of my review, let me say that it is nice to see Arcane win a big award here too and the one coming to the stage also talked about puppies. I will get to that a little later briefly. As for "Arcane", we saw a shot in the opening segment, but this was absolutely not enough to do justice to the series. Up on top of my watchlist. Oh yeah, and a show that dealt with three autists living together in an apartment received what was an honorary award or at least not a competitive one. Good for them and important subject. I do hope they can get cast in the future too. Most attractive inclusion of the show is a bit difficult to say, but Kaitlyn Dever is surely up there. She also won an award by the way without getting the proper recognition. I am surely curious how her transition to the big screen will go in the long term. I hope it can be a successful one. Talent and looks are definitely there. Yeah, she was in "Dopesick" here and when that show won big towards the end, the scream for justice by the producer or who it was was surely interesting. Might take a deeper look into that at some point. Good that shows like this get made and corruption is not omnipresent. Unbiased is always what you can hope for. Same applies to my review here.

I still have to give the overall outcome of this awards show a thumbs down. It is certainly not on failure territory, but there is a lot to improve still. I hope they can find a way for the 2023 edition and the ones following after. If not, then cancelling the event might be the better idea. At least they had many big names present there, which is always cool and if we compare this to the 2023 film edition, which was just a mess and almost nobody was there, it is how it should be. Paul Walter Hauser is always nice to see and even Ken Jeong was kinda funny this time as he was playfully begging to find a job. In general, I am not too big on him. Now it's time to talk about a few more puppy inclusions: It was still really nice that the first (I think it was) winner brought a dog on stage and talked about fair treatment of all creatures. Esposito returned with some hounds later on as well. Appreciated. And there was another puppy reference when two female winners (yes, I just assumed their gender) are on stage and are so thrilled that they have to take a photo of the applauding crowd. Now, this is really it though. My verdict is that you should maybe rather skip this awards show. If you still wanna go for it, you can find the full broadcast on the Youtube channel of the association that is behind these awards. Oh and people, please, please learn the correct pronunciation of the word "association". Little hint: It is NOT "assoschiation".
