The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the wall-crawler's latest movie to return to theaters as part of Sony's "Spider-Mondays," but how did it fare when compared to its predecessors?
The movie, directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and Dane DeHaan, earned $500,000. That's not exactly a, well, amazing result, though it is pretty much what we expected for a sequel which isn't anywhere near as revered as its predecessors.
For comparison, The Amazing Spider-Man opened in 466 theaters last week and made $510,000. However, it's still a mighty fall from Spider-Man ($683,000), Spider-Man 2 ($809,000), and Spider-Man 3 ($760,000). Next up is 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming.
On the plus side, with a $1,100 per theater average, this was a solid showing, albeit one deemed less-than-spectacular overall.
We reviewed The Amazing Spider-Man 2 back in 2014 and it wasn't the most positive verdict.
"With appalling dialogue, slapstick humour, some bizarre aesthetics, and cheesy moments...

John Leguizamo is looking back on his would-be superhero debut in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and claims that he could have been entangled in a web of a lawsuit against studio Sony over his casting process.
Leguizamo had previously confirmed in 2023 that after Michael Keaton originally turned down the role of Vulture, Leguizamo was about to film in the role. However, Keaton later returned and was cast in the part.
Leguizamo told Business Insider that any other actor “would have sued” the studio for that. “We went through a huge negotiation period, and we had agreed on terms,” he said. “I hadn’t signed a contract, but we had agreed. I think those are suable terms.”
Leguizamo added that he would be open to making joining a different superhero franchise after that experience, perhaps even in the DC. “I would if I was offered The Riddler or some part like that,” he said.

Earlier this month, an image cinematographer Christian Sebaldt shared on Instagram indicated that Final Destination 6 (which is going by the title Final Destination: Bloodlines) was finally, after years of development and a thirteen-year gap between sequels, heading into production. The next day, producer Craig Perry took to social media to confirm that Final Destination: Bloodlines is indeed filming, the aim being to get this one into theatres in 2025 – in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the original film. Now, it’s been revealed that the long anticipated sequel has officially wrapped principal photography. Once again, the announcement came courtesy of Perry. The film stars Brec Bassinger (Stargirl), Teo Briones, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Richard Harmon, Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones, Rya Kihlstedt, and Tinpo Lee. John Leguizamo is by far one of the most recognizable Latino names in Hollywood, and the actor frequently comments and speaks up when he sees injustice being done, not only to him but to his co-stars and actors as well. Especially when it comes to the portrayal of Latinos in Hollywood and the issues of ethnic representation.
But, before he was known for that, Leguizamo was known for taking part in some of the biggest franchises in the industry. He gained widespread recognition for his roles in films such as ‘Carlito’s Way,’ ‘To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar,’ ‘Romeo + Juliet,’ the ‘Ice Age’ franchise, ‘The Kick-Ass’ franchise, and even the ‘John Wick’ franchise. But did you know that Leguizamo also almost played the Vulture in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’?

John Leguizamo stands out as one of Hollywood’s most prominent Latino figures, known not only for his acting prowess but also for his vocal advocacy against injustices faced by himself, his peers, and the broader Latino community in the industry. In the world of comic books and their movie adaptations, no names come close to the behemoth production houses of Marvel and DC. The studio houses of the respective comic giants have held onto their cinematic universes and solo movies for decades now. In this aspect, Spider-Man from the former and Batman from the latter stands out as not only two of the most widely recognized superheroes around the world but also the characters with the most flicks to their name.
In this saga, two actors, namely John Leguizamo and Jim Carrey, carry their own distinct and disappointing tales of playing villains for such adaptations. While Marvel literally snatched the role out of the former’s hands, the latter’s outing as one of the most famed villains of DC turned out to be one of the worst iterations in comic book history. Monday Am: These apes are going to need a bigger boat for their cash that is as 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes came in over expectations with a $58.5M opening. Sunday came in at $16.5M, down 19%, a strong attributable to Mother’s Day. Who knew moms were fans of the Planet of the Apes movies? Typical Mother’s Day Saturday to Sunday drops are around the -28% range.
That’s now the third highest opening for an Apes movie after Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ($72.6M) and Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes ($68.5M). Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes only cost $160M, which is cheaper than Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes which cost $190M before P&a. In the world of comic book movies, there has never been a stranger relationship than the one between Jon Watts and Spider-Man. One of the most critically as well as commercially favored and strongest IPs of Marvel Comics, Spider-Man’s entry into the MCU was placed in the hands of a creator with the strangest IMDb credits under his directorial section.
Known for directing music videos, shorts, a claymation movie, and television series, Watts couldn’t have been placed at a more substantial position and with a more high-risk, high-reward IP than directing Spider-Man’s first debut under the Marvel banner after the controversial 12-year-long saga at Sony.

Last year, John Leguizamo revealed that he was in talks with Marvel Studios to play the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Though Michael Keaton ultimately signed on to play the character, the Batman actor was reportedly hesitant to commit at first, and Marvel had Leguizamo lined up in case negotiations fell through.
Apparently, Leguizamo was told that the role was his prior to Keaton agreeing to play the part.
“I was supposed to be the Vulture,” Leguizamo said at the time. “We had negotiated and I was about to play him, and they said that Michael Keaton wanted it back and they asked me if I would give it up. I said, ‘Well, okay I guess.’ They said, ‘No, we’ll work with you again, we’re gonna…’ That’s what happened there.”

John Leguizamo recently revealed to Business Insider some of the roles he regrets turning down the most throughout his career. They include Stanley Tucci’s role as Nigel in “The Devil Wears Prada,” Robin Williams’ voice role in “Happy Feet” and Vince Vaughn’s role in the 2005 action movie “Mrs. and Mrs. Smith.” Vaughn starred opposite Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in the latter film.

There have been rumblings for a while now that Marvel Studios has big plans for Chris Evans' Captain America in the MCU. We've already heard chatter about a Human Torch cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine (not to mention the actor's long-awaited return as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Secret Wars), but how about a TV show?
According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, a limited series is in development for Disney+ which will revolve around Captain America returning the Infinity Stones to their correct place in time following the events of Avengers: Endgame.
This is a story fans have long said they want to see, and a show like this would be a good way to make Marvel Studios' streaming offering feel like must-watch event TV again (which was the case when WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier launched in 2021).
We've heard about possible plans for this TV show before, so here's hoping it's finally moving forward.

In an interview with Business Insider, the actor was asked about movies he’s turned down that he now regrets. “Oh yeah, The Devil Wears Prada, the Stanley Tucci part [as Nigel],” Leguizamo revealed.

Bob Iger recently discussed how the MCU is cutting back on its creative work. He mentioned that fans can look forward to about 2 or 3 movies a year and 2 shows. That’s much less than what was initially planned and what we’re used to.
Right now, there are over 30 MCU projects rumored or confirmed to be in the works. But, as Brad Winderbaum recently mentioned, not all of them will actually get made and released.
Recently, rumors have been circulating, sparked by the scooper and leaker MyTimeToShineHello, suggesting that Donald Glover is being considered for a writing role.

When Marvel Studios enlisted Jon Watts to direct Spider-Man: Homecoming, he was a relative unknown. The filmmaker had helmed the low-budget Clown and Cop Car, but neither of those necessarily suggested he was a good fit to bring the wall-crawler into the MCU.
Like Sam Raimi and Marc Webb before him, Watts proved his detractors wrong by delivering a movie which scored glowing reviews and a spectacular $880.2 million at the worldwide box office.
Spider-Man: Far From Home followed two years later and earned over $1.1 billion, and when Spider-Man: No Way Home eventually swung into theaters, it grossed a jaw-dropping $1.9 billion.
After devoting several years of his life to Spider-Man, Watts decided he needed a break from the MCU and gave up the chance to next take charge of The Fantastic Four. He's since shifted focus to upcoming Star Wars TV series, Skeleton Crew, and a new director will be brought on board for Spider-Man 4.

Alejandro González Iñárritu's Oscar-winning film "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)" was a pretty ballsy move to make in 2014. The film stars Michael Keaton as actor Riggan Thompson, a once-massive Hollywood action star who has aged out of action roles. Notably, Riggan starred in three crowd-pleasing superhero movies about Birdman, a Batman-like vigilante. Keaton, of course, played Batman in 1989, 1991, and 2023.
Riggan is set to star in a high-profile Broadway production, hoping to prove to himself and the world that he is a pliable and capable actor, not merely a nostalgia-laced superhero figure. There is a lot of dialogue in "Birdman" about how superhero movies are the antithesis of art and that superhero actors are aggressively robbed of their thespian instincts. Good actors, Riggan complains, are ripped from meaningful projects and thrust into commercial FX bonanzas where they are expected to do little beyond pose and wear silly costumes.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Before he returns to the role of Spider-Man’s best friend, “Guy in the Chair” and emergency sorcerer, Jacob Batalon is deepening his relationship with Sony Pictures. Today, Batalon is back on the big screen in the studio’s supernatural horror film, Tarot. Written and directed by Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen, Tarot chronicles seven college friends whose individual tarot card readings come to life in deadly fashion. Batalon plays Paxton, the impulsive life of the party within his friend group.
Tarot partially utilizes Batalon as comic relief, a role that he’s perfected since breaking out in Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), but the film also allowed him to play afraid, something young actors often cite as being the most difficult emotion to play given the mechanics of a film set.

Although Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland are loved as the web-slingers in their own respective places, Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man was just a bit different. Maybe it was his physique or just his impeccable performance in the role, but what can’t be denied is just how distinctive his version of Peter Parker was — something that further made fans yearn for his unmade third installment.

That being said, the third installment in his film series would have unarguably further explained the greatest mystery related to his friendly neighborhood superhero. But since the film never came to be, fans thought it better to ask Garfield to unwind that mystery. However, as surprising as it may be, it turns out that even the 40-year-old actor is as much in the dark about this as everyone else!

Set in a world where every door creaks and there isn’t a single well-lit location, “Tarot” is little more than a clearinghouse of horror clichés.
Co-written, directed and executive produced by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg (the podcast series “Classified”), the supernatural thriller repeatedly leverages the genre’s laziest mood-setting and suspense-building devices to keep its audience on the edge of their seats. But even featuring a moderately charming ensemble led by “Spider-Man: Homecoming” breakout Jacob Batalon, the film’s PG-13 rating — and lack of virtually any characters other than its doomed protagonists — severely limits the efficacy of those techniques and tropes even when they’re deployed skillfully.
Batalon plays Paxton, the wisecracker among a studiously diverse college-age friend group that rents a remote mansion to celebrate the birthday of Elise (Larsen Thompson). Scouring their rental for booze, the group foolishly breaks into a room marked “Keep Out,” where...

Tom Holland has played Spider-Man in multiple MCU films over the years and the actor has become synonymous with the character. From his scene-stealing debut in Captain America: Civil War to the epic Spider-Man: No Way Home, the character has evolved significantly through his appearances.

Spider-Man had a big role in Avengers: Infinity War, with his introduction being one of the highlights of the film. If there was any doubt at all that Zendaya is one of her generation's biggest A-list stars, this past weekend just squashed it. The actress had a bunch of big hits to her name, including the most recent "Spider-Man" trilogy, but she had yet to have the opportunity to open an original movie with her as the central star. Well, she did just that over the weekend as the R-rated, original tennis drama "Challengers" hit theaters and topped the box office with a $15 million take domestically. Very few non-horror, original movies have broken through in the pandemic era big enough to take the number one spot on the charts. That was just the tip of the iceberg.
While Zendaya's latest was topping the charts, "Dune: Part Two" still found itself in the top ten in its ninth weekend of release. Director Dennis Villeneuve's sequel to 2021's "Dune" added $1.9 million to its ever-growing total domestically,...

Tom Holland and Zendaya have not only won our hearts as the beloved Spider-Man and Mj, but there is a possibility that they are weaving a romantic web of their own that might finally break the Spider-Man curse. Yes, the recent report claims that the couple is currently talking about getting hitched soon.
Isn’t it thrilling to imagine that the one Spidey pair to make the switch from on-screen chemistry to off-screen matrimony might be right before our eyes? Given the franchise’s history, previous Spider-Man couples have steered clear of real-life aisle-walking, which makes this blossoming love story all the more enchanting—and, let’s admit, a bit surreal.

In Challengers, everyone is obsessed with Zendaya. Or, at least, her character Tashi Duncan. “She’s gonna turn her whole family into millionaires,” says Josh O’Connor’s young tennis champ Patrick Zweig, to old friend and doubles partner Art Donaldson (Mike Faist). “She’ll have a fashion line, a foundation.” It’s easy to see why they’re in awe. Duncan is a world-class player, brand ambassador, and the object of both their affections. And with regards to ambition, ability, and enormous success at a young age, they could just as easily be talking about Zendaya herself – a star who, over the past few years, has been executing her own Tashi-esque world domination. So far, she’s moved from kids’ TV star to being a part of some of the biggest movies on the planet. With Challengers, though, she’s taking things to a whole other level.

This April sees Zendaya cross a milestone it honestly feels like she should have reached ages ago: a legitimate leading role in a theatrical film. The actor has been one of the biggest stars of Generation Z and a much hyped starlet for years now, and yet a quick glance at her Wikipedia page reveals a shockingly short resume.
The Oakland born star’s adult film career, after a childhood in the Disney Channel machine leading sitcoms like “Shake It Up” and “Kc Undercover,” really only started in 2017, with a brief supporting turn in Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Opposite her eventual real-life boyfriend Tom Holland, she only had a scant 10 minutes or so of screentime as the sarcastic teen Mj — hardly a star is born moment, despite what the advertising for the film would have you expect.
Zendaya would reprise her role in future Spider-Man films, and her screentime increased with each installment.

Michael Keaton is not new to starring in comic book films. From Batman to Spider-Man: Homecoming, the actor has won over fans with his portrayal of iconic characters over the years. He is very versatile too, and hence can play both a hero and a villain very convincingly.

Young actor and musician Donald Glover, also known by his musician stage name Childish Gambino, is one of the most prominent names of Hollywood’s younger (not youngest!) generation. The actor and musician made his career in 30 Rock when he was just 23, after which he had successful appearances in the Community and Atlanta. He also appeared in several movies, including The Lazarus Effect, Magic Mike Xxl, The Martian, as well as Solo: A Star Wars Story, where he played the young Lando Calrissian.

The feuds between actors in Hollywood can be epic, mostly due to the fact that they transpire in front of the whole world. Some are more serious in nature and some are more playful, and if you’re wondering how a feud between two superheroes looks like, you don’t have to go further than Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon first met in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in 2016. During press junkets for the film, Mackie would tease Holland, jokingly calling him a diva and making fun of him needing frequent breaks and supervision on set. This banter continued in subsequent interviews. Holland recalls a specific incident where he used one of Mackie’s catchphrases on set, unintentionally stealing Mackie’s thunder and possibly sparking their playful rivalry.
They have engaged in playful banter over the years, with both actors making jabs at each other.

Zendaya is well-known these days, especially with younger audiences, thanks to her roles in ‘Euphoria,’ ‘Dune,’ and the ‘Spider-Man’ movies. What’s great about her is how genuine she seems, often praised for her effortless charm.
Before becoming a huge star, Zendaya’s career was already taking off, even though Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige hadn’t heard of her at the time.
In a recent article in Vogue about Zendaya, Amy Pascal shared that neither she nor Feige recognized the young actress at first. However, she quickly impressed them, and they were convinced she had to be in the movie.
To be honest with you, neither Kevin Feige nor I knew who she was. She was wearing no makeup and she was just dressed like a regular girl, and we were like, ‘Oh my God, she’s amazing. She has to be in the movie. And then we found...
