Remember the unofficial short film “Power/Rangers” that came out in 2015? Well, now the producer of the dark and violent reimagining of the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” Adi Shankar, wants to make the film adaptation of the classic “Mega Man” video game franchise. “I’d love to do a hard-r ‘Mega Man,'” Shankar said in an interview with Wwg.

With February being a short month, genre fans only have a handful of horror and sci-fi arriving on VOD to look forward to over the next few weeks. One of my own most anticipated movies for 2016, the horror anthology Southbound, makes its VOD debut on February 9th, courtesy of The Orchard. For those of curious about two of the more buzzed-about remakes in some time – Martyrs and Cabin Fever – both films arrive on VOD on February 2nd and February 12th respectively.
Other notable titles hitting VOD this February include All Hallow’s Eve 2, Convergence, The Veil, Uncaged and Riddle Room.
All Hallows' Eve 2 (Rlj Entertainment) – February 2nd
Alone on Halloween, a young woman finds a mysterious VHS tape on her doorstep—a tape that shows a series of gruesome and ghastly tales that appear to be all too real. But these terrifying glimpses of damned souls are not the only horrors that stalk her.

Forget your $250 million budgets and A-list megastars, sometimes all you need to make a good film is a bit of creative thinking and passion for your characters (intellectual property rights optional).

1. Batman battles Predator
Back in the Dark Knight's movie wilderness years (thanks for that, George Clooney!), short Batman: Dead End made waves online thanks to a mega-twist that saw the Caped Crusader in a rain-soaked showdown against a Predator. If it bleeds, Batman can kill it.

"Dredd" producer Adi Shankar, whose work includes the online shorts like "The Punisher: Dirty Laundry" and the much publicised "Power/Rangers," is planning to bring his dark and gritty approach to a new 'hard-hitting anime' mini-series based on the "Castlevania" video game franchise.
Speaking with Collider, Shankar revealed that independent animation studio Frederator ("Adventure Time," "The Fairly OddParents") is involved in the production which has acquired the adaptation rights to the Konami game series - or more specfically the game "Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse" which was released in 1989.
That game followed Trevor Belmont who was assisted by the young sorceress Sypha Belnades, the agile pirate Grant Danasty, and the dhampir Alucard. Asked about the violence level, Shankar says: "There will be a lot. The goal is to bring hard hitting anime to the America and be America's first animated series for adults."

Adi Shankar, the man who has produced the mainstream likes of Dredd and Lone Survivor, but is more likely to be found creating his own content with his Bootleg Universe shorts and series, has a new project in the works. He has Gods And Secrets on the way, with a cast that includes Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Denise Richards, Jane Seymour and wrestling legend "Diamond" Dallas Page. Gods And Secrets is an indie production that dives deep into the world of superheroes and how their actions affect those around them. It’s designed to put a fresh spin on the comic book tropes and push the boundaries of what’s possible within the genre.Shankar is co-directing the instalments with Stewart Yost, working from a script by Shawn DeLoache, and the likes of Sharni Vinson, Alexandra Billings and Andy Milonakis are also among the cast. Adi Shankar, the producer behind the 'Bootleg Universe' one-shot films Power/Rangers & The Punisher: Dirty Laundry and 2012's Dredd will make his directorial debut with HBO's Gods And Secrets. According to Deadline, Shankar will team up with Stewart Yost to co-direct this dark superhero drama that's said to be inspired by Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel, Watchmen. The drama will feature an original team named 'Guardians Of Justice', and explore the more secretive and shady aspects of celebrity culture by applying it to superheroes. The series is set to star WWE's Diamond Dallas Page, Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga), Kellan Lutz (The Legend Of Hercules), Sharni Vinson (You're Next) and Andy Milonakis. The core premise appears intruiging, while the project's placement on HBO should be enough to pique most people's interest. The cast is admittedly rather uninspiring, but Shankar has impressed in the past with his Bootleg one-shots.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are getting the hero they've been clamouring for as The Punisher makes his return to screens in season two of Daredevil.
Frank Castle will be out to clean up Hell's Kitchen when The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal takes on the coveted role as the ruthless and brutal street vigilante.
However, this is far from the first time that The Punisher has appeared in live action – and it might not even be his first appearance in Marvel's shared film universe.
To get you excited for the return of Marvel's Daredevil, we look back on The Punisher's comic book origins and his previous big screen adventures.
1. His origin story was truly explosive
The story of Frank Castle began to unfold in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man in February 1974, as a creation of iconic Marvel writer Gerry Conway, art director John Romita Sr and artist Ross Andru.

Hugh Jackman has played Logan aka Wolverine in seven different films. It’s an impressive number that will shortly increase with a third solo Wolverine film and possibly X-Men:Apocalypse, although at the time of writing he has yet to be officially cast. A few other names are snapping at the heels of Jackman, notably the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you include the forthcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, Chris Evans has played Captain America four times (five if you include his appearance as Loki using magic to look like the first Avenger in Thor: The Dark World), Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth have portrayed Black Widow and Thor respectively four times each whilst the King of the McU, Robert Downey Jr. has made an impressive six appearances as Iron Man/Tony Stark (including his post-credit appearance in The Incredible Hulk).

If you enjoyed the gritty Power Rangers movie that caused some controversy regarding its legality this week, now it's time to become familiar with more of Adi Shankar's productions. We don't mean his commercial Hollywood features, like Lone Survivor. The Grey and Killing Them Softly, although those are recommended, too. We mean his other "Bootleg Universe" one-shot films, of which Power/Rangers was the latest. Maybe you're already familiar with his first one, 2012's The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, which brought Thomas Jane back as the Marvel Comics antihero. He also made one for the Spider-Man villain Venom and last year produced an animated Judge Dredd web series, which wasn't tied in any way to Dredd, the official comic book adaptation he worked...

Last week, producer Adi Shankar released Power/Rangers, a fan film which put a dark and gritty spin on the colourful kids favorite. It's safe to say it became a viral hit, but Power Rangers rights holders Saban weren't too happy with it, getting the video pulled on copyright reasons. A deal was eventually struck, and the video made a return. It's clear Shankar doesn't really think about anything as trivial as 'rights issues' when putting together his Bootleg Universe (the collective name given to his numerous fan films, including The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, and Venom: Truth in Journalism), and he's at it again with his animated take on James Bond, In Service of Nothing. Considering Eon's protectiveness of the Bond rights, it will be interesting to see how this works out for Shankar. Power/Rangers got by on fans love of the short, we'll have to wait and see...

The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers are getting the big screen treatment from Lionsgate next year, and while we know nothing about it at this stage, we can be sure it will be nothing like this dark, gritty, and frankly amazing short film from director Joesph Khan (Dentention, Torque) and producer Adi Shankar (Dredd). Starring James Van Der Beek and Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackoff, Power/Rangers is the next in the "Bootleg Films" series, which includes The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, where Thomas Jane put on the skull t-shirt again, and the unofficial animated Dredd spin-off, Superfiend. A pretty grim take on the beloved kids t.v.show, the short was born from Shankar's realistation (as he explains in an accompanying video, that has to be seen for Shankar ripping into Orlando Bloom alone) that the Power Rangers were basically child soldiers who were bound to end up with Post Traumatic...

One role that actor Thomas Jane probably won't escape is that of Frank Castle, aka. The Punisher. Jane played the role in Lionsgate's 2004 film adaptation of the comic along with the 2012 unofficial short film "The Punisher: Dirty Laundry".
Then in 2013, the rights to the character reverted back to Marvel Studios, leading to speculation that the character would return in a future Marvel project. In fact, he could potentially return as a character in one of the studio's upcoming Netflix series.
Out doing promotional rounds for "Vice," Jane has revealed that whichever way Marvel chooses to proceed, he's done with playing the role. He tells I Am Rogue:
"I feel like I've done it. That's why I did the short film. I wanted to create something that was truer to my own vision of what that movie could be. I feel like I put that out there. It was really well received.

After two straight years of call-to-arms, online petitions and continual coy “maybe there’ll be a sequel” talk from Karl Urban, Dredd finally earned itself a follow-up. Not a real sequel, of course. Actually, it might be less of a sequel than last year’s official comic book follow-up, “Dredd: Underbelly,” but it’s new Dredd nonetheless. Judge Dredd: Superfiend, an animated Judge Dredd webseries from Dredd producer Adi Shankar is viewable online right now! But again, not a real sequel. Because while Superfiend may be Shankar’s baby, it’s a “bootleg”- as in, not licensed by 2000 Ad (the comic magazine that puts out new “Judge Dredd” stories every week) or anyone else non-Shankar who would have had a hand in a “real” Dredd Part II. It’s more or less a pro-quality fan film, in the style of Shankar’s other shorts, The Punisher: Dirty Laundry or Venom: Truth in Journalism. Still...

Hey, guess what? Blumhouse Productions has yet another horror film in the works, and Thomas Jane is attached to star. Sound good to you? Because it sounds great to us. Read on!
THR reports that The Veil will be the next micro-budget genre effort from Blumhouse, which will re-team director Phil Joanou with Thomas Jane. They last partnered on the unauthorized short film The Punisher: Dirty Laundry (below), which was one of the hands down coolest things to ever happen to the internet.
The Veil is written by Robert Ben Garant, and the story springs from the real-world headlines of religious cults and mass suicides. It begins 30 years ago, when members of a religious cult known as Heaven's Veil take their own lives.
The truth behind what really happened remains buried deep in the memory of the sole survivor, a five-year-old girl, who returns to the compound with a documentary crew as an adult.

Thomas Jane and Eva Longoria have signed on for two new projects from microbudget horror producing magnate Jason Blum.
Jane will re-team with his "The Punisher: Dirty Laundry" unauthorised Marvel short film director Phil Joanou's for "The Veil" at Universal Pictures. Filming begins in April.
"Reno 911" co-creator Robert Ben Garant penned the script which begins three decades ago when the members of the religious cult Heaven's Veil commit suicide.
The sole survivor, a then five-year-old girl, is taken back to the compound thirty years later with a documentary crew to determine what really happened - the truth turns out to be far more terrifying.
Before that starts though, Blum is getting to work on "Visions" which "Desperate Housewives" star Longoria has joined. The story follows a pregnant woman (Isla Fisher) who moves with her husband to the countryside where she is plagued by visions of a sinister hooded figure.

We've seen some impressive Marvel fan films from producer Adi Shankar, including The Punisher: Dirty Laundry starring Thomas Jane, and the stylistic Truth in Journalism which features Eddie Brock before he becomes Venom. Now Shankar has been working on another Marvel-inspired film, focusing on The Punisher again. However, this time, Marvel has taken action to shut down The Dead Can't Be Distracted, the film from director Mike Pecci which takes cues from a specific comic run by Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto. While we might not see the full film anytime soon, we at least have a trailer. Watch! Here's the trailer for The Dead Can't Be Distracted which was released in May (via Movies.com): Marvel has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Pecci to "immediately stop unauthorized use, advertising, sale and/or distribution of any production of The Punisher or any other Marvel character-based films." Producer Adi Shankar, who previously helped make the short film The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, has once again dipped back into the comic book world for his latest small project, this time plucking a fan-favorite character out of the Spider-Man universe. Above is a new short film from Shankar written and directed by Joe Lynch and starring True Blood's Ryan Kwanten, and as the title suggests, the story centers on the alien symbiote infected villain known as Venom. The fan-made short - which premiered at San Diego Comic-Con and has nothing to do with Marc Webb's upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - appears to be set some time in the 1980s and centers on a French documentary crew that seems to be making a film about notorious journalist Eddie Brock (Kwanten). Thomas Jane (Hung, Boogie Nights) is soon set to return to the director’s chair early next year, to film what’s being described as a kind of Gothic Western, A Magnificent Death from a Shattered Hand.
Jane will be starring in the lead himself, alongside Nick Nolte and Jeremy Irons, making for a pretty excellent cast.
A promo poster had surfaced in photo form from Comic-Con earlier in the year, but now BigFanBoy have debuted these two early promo posters online, the second of which is designed by business partner/comic book & poster artist/long-term collaborator, Tim Broadstreet.
Little is known about the plot, but Jane spoke of the film’s events a few months back as surrounding a man whose father had committed a terrible robbery in his youth and buried the treasure.

When I was a kid, I used to love the arcade game Spy Hunter. I don't think I ever really played it for more than 10 minutes at a time, but it had a cool car and the word "spy" in the title, which was enough for me. Apparently that is enough for Warner Brothers as well because they've been trying to make a movie based on this property for going on ten years now. After several false starts with John Woo and Paul W.S. Anderson attached, the project is now suddenly veering back on track with Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer at the helm. Will it actually happen this time? More importantly, does anyone really care? The news comes courtesy of Vulture, who report that Warner Brothers is reviving the project again because a new version of the game is due out for the Playstation Vita and Nintendo 3Ds this fall.

Following an impressive turn in Haywire earlier this year, Gina Carano joined the cast of The Fast and the Furious 6, further establishing herself as a big screen action star. Well, according to Variety, she looks set to now take on her biggest role yet; the lead in the planned "all-female riff" on The Expendables. Producer Adi Shankar (of 1984 Private Defense Contractors) had this to say about casting the actress. "I don't know how I'm supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of 'The Expendables' without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba." He recently co-produced Dredd, Killing Them Softly and viral online hit, The Punisher: Dirty Laundry. Variety is reporting that Rob Liefeld’s classic 1993 comic book series Bloodstrike will be developed into a motion picture with the help of a new investor. The comics followed a top-secret group of superpowered assassins, resurrected back from the dead through the government’s Born Again project, and following lead character Cabbot Stone.
Adi Shankar, the man whose company co-financed such films as The Grey, and the upcoming Dredd 3D, will be produced the film alongside Liefeld and his manager Brooklyn Weaver. Shankar’s company is currently moving forward on an all-female version of The Expendables…fund everything!
In addition to co-financing such films as the upcoming Dredd 3D and Liam Neeson’s The Grey, this is the same company that produced The Punisher: Dirty Laundry short film that created a strong buzz at San Diego Comic-Com 2012.
Liefeld went on to Tweet that “Bloodstrike will be R-rated,” adding that “Adi Shankar the real deal.
