The first base coach shown in the movie for the Gibsonburg baseball team is the head coach of the actual 2005 state championship team.
Gibsonburg is based on a true story. In the real championship game, Gibsonburg's head coach was worried that his 13 and 17 team would be the first team ever run ruled in a state championship game.
The original 2005 championship game was played in Cooper Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Because Cooper Stadium is now, condemned, the championship games were filmed at the current location for the high school championships, Huntington Park.
