A serial story like this goes back over a story from a different character's perspective and here we get Alex's backstory and so many of my criticisms of the 1st 2 episodes are resolved quite satisfactorily. Caplan does a great job with expressing a sick person's mentality-manipulative, anger under the surface, slightly delusional. This episode does a great job of fleshing out her character, so we can see her instability (and how that played out over the 1st 2 episodes but we couldn't see) and we can see why she is drawn to Dan-his strength and stability and power. The only thing really lacking is an idea as to his motivation to cheat on his loving wife-hopefully they will flesh that out moving forward. But this episode really did a great job of developing the characters and kudos to Caplan for her performance. Oh and they did that development with a lot of show don't tell which is welcome.
