If you haven't tuned into Lifetime's Murdaugh Murders: The Movie event, you're missing out on a scintillating depiction of one of the century's most heinous crimes.
And you've also deprived yourself of a remarkable performance by the acclaimed Bill Pullman, who we reiterate was truly transformative in the role.
The Murdaugh murder trial gripped the nation and sparked multiple documentaries.
It only seemed fitting that such a notorious case would not only appear on Lifetime's True Crime slate but also that the two-part movie event helmed by one of the finest actors of our time would serve as the network's milestone 500th original film over three decades.
The two-part movie event, and especially Pullman's performance, stick with you and should be on everyone's radar.

While being treated to a gripping Lifetime thriller itself is fairly surprising, it’s especially astonishing when the same production pulls a truly fantastic romance out of nowhere. It isn’t your typical boy meets girl, and luck treats them kindly kind of love story, of course. But what struck me as most impressive is how Bad Romance: The Vicky White Story sees the characters’ inner workings through a splendidly clear lens. Vicky and Casey White’s story isn’t something your sweetest dreams of love are made of. Something ardently sincere, however, can coexist with something very obviously explosive. And without justifying the latter using the former, Bad Romance: The Vicky White Story explores the volatile nuances of a tragic love story between an inmate and a corrections officer.

Netflix has brought forth some amazing true crime docu-series like Murdaugh Murders, Making a Murderer, Fear City New York vs. Mafia, and many more with gripping yet true accounts of events and an extremely interesting execution style that completely hooks the audience to the screen. Another organized crime docu-series, Get Gotti, directed by Sebastian Smith, was recently added to the list. Get Gotti is a compelling and intense story revolving around the 1980s Gambino clan boss, John Gotti. This three-part documentary series brought forth an intense anecdote of how John Gotti remained elusive to the FBI until some bugs placed in his headquarters revealed all his criminal deeds. The documentary series did a pretty good job portraying the true accounts of organized crime, the FBI’s constant effort to catch Gotti, and the mafia boss’s eventual downfall.

After churning out countless movies that claimed to be inspired by true events without any real-life references backing up these claims, Lifetime has finally gotten its hands on the infamous murder trial that ruined the legacy of the Murdaugh family. Alex Murdaugh’s rap sheet, however, is too vast to be contained within the span of two movies, one following the events leading up to the murders, and the next staying close to the investigation and the trial. Despite Bill Pullman pulling his weight as the wicked Alex Murdaugh, the narrative style and pacing in Murdaugh Murders aren’t nearly steady enough to hold the gigantic mess he had made of his life. What the two films do pull off is still managing to manipulate your speculations, even though what you’re watching is, for the most part, what actually happened.

As the saying goes, "You can't help who you love."
But it's always difficult to process or fully understand loving someone so much that it results in scandal and tragedy.
While Bad Romance: The Vicky White Story is based on that scandalous Bonnie & Clyde, starcrossed lovers romance between a correctional officer and a convicted felon, at the very heart of the film, it was about this woman who felt displaced and swallowed up whole by life.
Vicky's story is sad, well before her untimely death by suicide.
While it's not Wendi McLendon-Covey's first foray into a more dramatic role, it's always a jolt to the system to see her play such a serious role.
The transformation of this lively actress into this exceedingly drab but wry middle-aged woman with not much to lose is fascinating in its own right.

A babymoon is supposed to be a relaxing pre-birth break, but it looks set to take on a very different meaning on You're Not Supposed to Be Here.
The Lifetime movie will debut on Saturday, November 4, at 8/7c, and the first trailer is insane.
Chrishell Stause stars opposite Diora Baird, with the pair playing a couple whose babymoon to a remote mountain town is anything but peaceful.
The movie came from a concept by Lauren Caster, who won The WrapWomen and Lifetime PitchFest for Emerging Female Filmmakers in 2021 as part of Lifetime's Broader Focus initiative that supports female creatives.
"When pregnant lesbian couple Zoe and Kennedy struggle with the stress of work and family life, Kennedy's boss offers them a cabin getaway in the woods," the logline teases.
"When they arrive at the beautiful cabin located in a remote mountain town, the locals aren't all overly welcoming," Lifetime adds.

Bill Pullman is such a talent.
It's challenging to capture the essence of a person people have become familiar with during such a high-profile trial.
But without a shadow of a doubt, Bill Pullman slays his role, and we get to see more of his range and his capabilities during Murdaugh Murders Part 2.
It's nothing short of riveting to watch his interpretation of Alex Murdaugh, and he kicked it up a notch during part two of this movie event.
While the timeline of Murdaugh Murders Part 1 had a lot of heavy lifting to do as far as setting the pace for how the family seemed before everything fell apart and just what started kicking matters into gear with Paul, we had a tighter time frame to work with which made the pacing significantly better and more intense.

To even begin to unravel the puzzling, disturbing tragedy that is the Murdaugh Murders, it starts and ends with legacy.
Lifetime's latest in their Ripped From the Headlines True Crime slate, Murdaugh Murders: The Movie, is inarguably its strongest yet.
Bill Pullman is utterly transformative in the role of Alex Murdaugh, from the mannerisms and diction to his cadence, reminding us yet again of why he's one of the greatest actors of our time.
There is something unique about Murdaugh Murders Part 1: It feels distinctly different from Lifetime's usual fare in style and execution.
The tone is different without a shadow of a doubt, somehow edging away from the usual "TV movie" formula, and it wouldn't be the least bit surprising if this mini-series event earned itself some recognition.

At times it feels like if a news story breaks on Friday, Lifetime is there on Monday with an original movie at the ready. The speed of this brand that’s been around since 1984 isn’t just surprising to fans and reporters in the TV space.
“We surprise ourselves sometimes,” senior vice president of scripted programming Tia Maggini told TheWrap.
One of those surprising turnarounds happened around “Murdaugh Murders: The Movie,” a two-part project that makes history on Saturday for being the 500th original movie to air on the network.
According to Maggini, the team at Lifetime had been following the story of the Murdaugh family murders from the beginning. Though the “crazy” story captured their attention, the team was hesitant to move forward “legally” until the had a more definite idea of who committed the murders. But once Alex Murdaugh was arrested, the team went to work “towards the top of this year.

Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal, Netflix‘s docuseries about the crimes of South Carolina aristocratic lawyer Alex Murdaugh, is often a frustrating experience. By insisting upon jumping right into the details of this very current case before the proverbial bodies are even cold, Murdaugh Murders falls well short of the definitive standard viewers look for in a true crime documentary.

Netflix sure owes a lot to horrific crimes being committed. The streaming service has had massive hits with such true crime documentaries as the truly harrowing "American Murder: The Family Next Door," "The Staircase," and the original Netflix crime doc phenomenon "Making a Murderer." The list of Netflix true crime documentaries is seemingly endless, and it's only growing year after year as our obsession with real-life acts of shocking barbarity shows no signs of abating.
Earlier this year the cinematic true crime series "Missing: Dead or Alive?" found its way into the Netflix Top 10. But that wasn't the first true crime hit for Netflix this year. This story about “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal” first appeared in The Race Begins issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
The trial of Alex Murdaugh, the South Carolina former lawyer now convicted of murdering his wife, Maggie, and youngest son, Paul, captivated true-crime audiences in real-time as it played out in early 2023, with no less than four documentary series popping up in the last few months, all looking to unravel how a prominent Southern family could fall from grace in such a brutal fashion. Among them is Netflix’s “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal,” a three-part documentary series that opted to orient its story not with the 2021 double-murder, but rather with a mysterious boat accident that took place two years earlier.
“Looking at the story as a whole, the more you started getting into it, the crazier it got,” executive producer and showrunner Michael Gasparro said. “Every time, the boat...

“Looking at the story as a whole, the more you started getting into it, the crazier it got,” executive producer and showrunner Michael Gasparro said. “Every time, the boat...

The Season 3 premiere of Disney+’s “The Mandalorian,” the live-action “Star Wars” show that played a key role in the service’s 2019 launch, jumped through hyperspace to the top of the charts in the latest Wrap Report, which highlights viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households drawn from over 25 million connected TVs. Though it defeated a large streaming empire in the process, the victory was weaker than one might have hoped.
The long-awaited new season’s first episode was less of a standout measured against other recent Disney+ releases. A gap of more than two years after the second season finale may have allowed some “Star Wars” fatigue to settle in. The episode outpaced the premieres of “Star Wars” spinoff “Andor” by nearly 50% in viewership, but still fell short of “Loki” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi’s” audience by double digits, trailing those launches by 35% and 28%, respectively.

Origins is a recurring series giving artists a space to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, Delta Spirit’s Matthew Logan Vasquez digs into his new solo single, “Untouchable.”
Matthew Logan Vasquez of Delta Spirit has released his new single, “Untouchable,” ahead of his upcoming solo album, As All Get Out.
As the primary songwriter for Delta Spirit, Vasquez has spent almost two decades perfecting his jagged indie rock sound. “Untouchable,” in particular, is inspired by a true story of vehicular manslaughter taking place in Texas.
“I wrote this song for Walker Lukens [and Zac Catanzaro]’s Kutx podcast Song Confessional,” Vasquez tells Consequence. “I was given a recording of an old woman from West Texas telling a story she remembered from growing up, about a wealthy son from a wealthy family getting away with vehicular manslaughter — not so dissimilar to the Murdaugh boating accident. I decided to write...

The latest Netflix true-crime docuseries “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal” has tapped into America’s obsession with the case of disgraced South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh. Its new three-part series climbed to the top of the streaming charts in the latest Wrap Report, which highlights television viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households drawn from over 25 million connected TVs.
Whether by sheer luck or incredible programming wiles, the docuseries was timed perfectly to the five-week trial of one of the most prominent families in the South that has dominated headlines and been a fixture on news networks for months. The Netflix series drove even more interest in the June 2021 killings of Murdaugh’s wife Maggie and son Paul as it dropped on Feb. 22, the beginning of the week-long period covered by this report.

The sentencing of disgraced South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh for the murders of his wife and son is unlikely to end the public’s fascination with the family: There are already TV specials, docuseries and podcasts about the slayings and at least two scripted shows on the way.
Murdaugh was sentenced to life in prison on Friday after being convicted a day earlier of killing his wife, Margaret “Maggie” Murdaugh, and their youngest son, Paul. He was found guilty on all charges, including two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon in the commitment of a violent crime.
In June 2021, Maggie and Paul were found shot to death on the family’s estate in Colleton County, South Carolina. But the prominent family’s legacy began unraveling years earlier when questions arose following the death of Mallory Beach in a boating accident involving Paul, the unsolved 2015 death...

Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to wait until a case is all wrapped up before giving it the true crime docuseries treatment. Some cases are so explosive, however, that documentarians just can’t wait to get their cameras on it. Such are the circumstances with the story of South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh.
In fact, even though the trial of Alex Murdaugh is ongoing and fresh revelations about his crimes are being uncovered almost daily, one could argue that Netflix is getting into the Murdaugh game late with its three-episode series, Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal. Many media entities have already tried their hand at explaining this shifty saga of murder, corruption, and cover-up from HBO Max’s Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty to ID’s The Murdaugh Murders: Deadly Dynasty.
By waiting just a little bit longer than its peers, Netflix hopes that it can present the...

If you have a taste for lurid news you probably know that Alex Murdaugh is currently on trial in Walterboro, South Carolina, for the murder of his wife and younger son. It’s the kind of story that makes true-crime mavens drool: a once-prominent, now-disgraced lawyer is charged with bloody heinousness. Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal, a new three-part Netflix docuseries, is either incredibly timely or brazenly opportunistic — or, most likely, both. It provides a crash course in the scandals and deaths that have engulfed the old-money Murdaugh family for years,...
