Steven Knight has been keen to bring such a facility to his home town, and the first major production that was homed at Digbeth Loc was the recent BBC TV series This Town. Now, Knight confirms in the new issue of Film Stories magazine that the Peaky Blinders film is on schedule to fully move in Digbeth Loc in September. Furthermore, he’s also confirmed that...

It's 2024 and one of the best British television personalities, Steven Knight, is in business like never before! Yes, admittedly, his projects these days are not as critically acclaimed as Peaky Blinders, but they always boast a high level of production and, of course, an excellent cast, which has never been wrong with Knight's TV series.
Last year's All the Light We Cannot See delighted us with the talent of young actors like Louis Hofmann and Aria Mia Loberti, as well as Hollywood colossi Hugh Laurie and Mark Ruffalo, while this March the BBC released This Town, led by the excellent British cast of Levi Brown, Jordan Bolger, Ben Rose and Eve Austin.
And the star of the new series, which is now streaming on Hulu, is none other than Elisabeth Moss, along with other equally stellar cast members that we will talk about below. Although the show has failed to impress critics so far,...

Star Wars has quite a list of projects in the works currently, from Mangold’s new Star Wars film that takes place thousands of years in the past to Waititi’s undisclosed project that he claimed “will piss off the fans.’ Somewhere in the middle of this is a new Rey movie ‘Star Wars: Episode X’ with the current working title ‘New Jedi Order,’ which is rather connected to what the movie is supposed to be about.
A new Star Wars movie was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, focusing on Rey after ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’ Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the film follows Rey’s journey to rebuild the Jedi Order. Originally, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were set to write, but Steven Knight took over. The story is set 15 years after ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ exploring the post-war, post-First Order galaxy with the Jedi in disarray. Kathleen Kennedy shared that...

The whole concept of art triumphing over every worldly problem sounds novel on paper, but it’s really hard to execute on screen. There’s a huge risk of things turning into a gimmicky mess. But that’s not the case with Steven Knight’s latest show, This Town, which is truly magnificent in every possible sense. It drops you in a world of chaos that is filled with genuinely likable characters worthy enough to root for. Engaging from the spectacular opening sequence of a riot breaking out to the final scene of a maddeningly beautiful concert, This Town is an ingenious piece of work. The 80s’ set Irish drama is a heady mix of many genres, from crime noir to coming of age to dysfunctional family drama to musical. Imagine if Sons of Anarchy was made by John Carney, and you get the idea!

Series creator Steven Knight has confirmed that star Cillian Murphy will return as Thomas Shelby for the Peaky Blinders movie. What’s more, Knight signaled a fall start for the production.
Knight dropped the news while speaking to BirminghamWorld at the premiere of his new BBC series, This Town. “He is definitely returning for it,” the screenwriter said of Murphy. “We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.”
Earlier this month, Murphy expressed his desire to reprise his role as the captivating crime boss. “I have always said that if Knight delivers a script that I know he can deliver, because he is such a phenomenal writer, I’ll be there,” the recent Oscar winner told the Irish Star.
It seems Knight has indeed delivered the script, and Murphy will indeed be there. Knight has had plans for a Peaky Blinders film since before the sixth and final season premiered.

Pop music’s resident lover boys Niall Horan and Shawn Mendes charmed London on Friday night with a surprise performance of “Treat You Better.” Horan welcomed Mendes to the stage halfway through the latest stop on The Show: Live on Tour, sliding the appearance in between the tender ballads “Flicker” and “This Town.”
Both singers played guitar as they led the arena in a singalong of Mendes’ hit single from 2016’s Illuminate. “That’s my boy!” Horan exclaimed as his guest exited the stage. The appearances marks Mendes’ first live performance in almost a year.

There’s a new biblical epic hitting cinema screens this weekend, but it’s vastly different than the many that have come before it.
Jeymes Samuel’s “The Book of Clarence,” the British musician/filmmaker’s lively follow up to his wildly energetic all-Black Western “The Harder They Fall,” gives the dusty sword-and-sandal genre a bold, funk-infused remix.
The Legendary film, which Sony’s Tristar Pictures is releasing Jan. 12 and counts Jay-Z among its executive producers, follows a Holy Land hustler and religious skeptic (Lakeith Stanfield) who attempts to fashion himself as a Messiah to clear some debts. The movie also features a chariot-racing Mary Magdalene (Teyana Taylor), an unimpressed John the Baptist (David Oyelowo) and a Virgin Mary (Alfre Woodard) unafraid to hand out slaps to those who dare cast doubt on her sin-free status. And then there’s Jesus Christ himself, played with an air of near-silent cool by Nicholas Pinnock,...

In any given year, British TV can be relied on to provide plenty in the way of crime drama, and 2023 was no different. Between these returning series and newcomers A Town Called Malice, Blue Lights, Marlow, Payback, Rebus, Steeltown Murders, The Gold, The Sixth Commandment, Wolf and more, crime continued to flourish on the small screen.
Happily though, that was far from all that UK TV offered this year. There was fantasy too, in the form of Netflix’s South London super-powers drama Supacell, ghost detective series Lockwood & Co., Greek and Roman mythology series Kaos, and sci-fi in Prime Video’s The Rig.
Add to all those the romances, dramas inspired by real-life, and several other book adaptations, period and otherwise plus music-based dramas Champion and This Town, and it was a pretty full slate.

Exclusive: The BBC is developing Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s drama based in a Birmingham university, with a view to potentially turning it into a returnable series.

Welcome back to Oscars Playback, in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng revisit Oscar ceremonies and winners of yesteryear. This week, we cover the 80th Academy Awards in 2008, honoring the films of 2007.
The 80th Academy Awards almost didn’t happen the way it did. The 2007-08 writers’ strike ended just 12 days before the ceremony, so producers were prepping for a strike-proof version of the ceremony. In the end, a traditional ceremony took place, hosted by Jon Stewart, who had to ask Hollywood, “Does this town need a hug?” It was a reference to the slate of “psychopathic killer movies,” including eventual — and one of the greatest — Best Picture winner “No Country for Old Men.”

The BBC has moved production of Silent Witness, one of its most popular long-running dramas, from London to the West Midlands.
The move forms part of the BBC’s Across the UK strategy, which has seen a number of shows moved away from the capital and several taken to Birmingham including MasterChef and upcoming Steven Knight drama This Town.
Silent Witness, which is currently made at BBC Park Western in London, will move to the West Midlands in early 2024 for production on its 27th season.
BBC dramas rarely run for so long but Silent Witness, which is made by BBC Studios and follows a team of forensic pathology experts who investigate crimes, has been on TV for nearly 30 years.
The BBC said it will deliver at least two “high-impact” scripted series per year in the West Midlands and increase investment in training and development. The region is having something of...

After five years of quietly gathering steam within the international TV community, the 2023 edition of the London TV Screenings is its biggest outing yet.
Running Feb. 27 to March 3, the event features more than 25 distributors and 400 buyers. But how did the confab evolve from a set of casual screenings by rival distributors of the BBC into an event that now rivals MipTV in Cannes?
Its genesis goes back to 1976, when BBC Showcase was created from 25 European buyers gathering in Brighton’s Old Ship Hotel to watch episodes of shows such as “Fawlty Towers,” and buy such programs for audiences back in their home countries. The showcase then moved to other locations, including Edinburgh and Harrogate, before returning to Brighton, and eventually relocating to Liverpool in 2012.

The chart-topping artist wrote the track with John Ryan and Joel Little, who also produced, and Tobias Jesso Jr. Horan recorded the song in Southern California. Pre-save “Heaven” Here. The 7” vinyl and CD editions of “Heaven,” which will be released in April, are available for pre-order now.
Niall Horan said, “One thing I’ve learned over the years is that society loves to pressure us into reaching certain milestones by a certain age. Whether that’s getting married or anything else that really should be based on our own instincts. As I’ve gotten older I’ve tried to let go of those expectations and just follow my heart. The chorus of this song is saying that what I have in my life currently is amazing.

Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery is to lead Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s personal drama This Town for the BBC.
Knight’s six-parter is rolling the cameras in Birmingham and has cast a string of other British actors including Nicholas Pinnock (Marcella) and David Dawson (My Policeman).
