Sarah Snook has set her first TV starring role since the ending of “Succession.”
Snook will star in the series “All Her Fault,” which has been greenlit at Peacock. The show is based on the novel of the same name by Andrea Mara.
The official logline for the series states, “Marissa Irvine (Snook) arrives at 14 Arthur Avenue, expecting to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate with a boy at his new school. But the woman who answers the door isn’t a mother she recognizes. She isn’t the nanny. She doesn’t have Milo. And so begins every parent’s worst nightmare.”
For her portrayal of Shiv Roy on “Succession,” Snook earned an Emmy Award in 2023, having been nominated in both 2022 and 2020 prior to that. She also won two Golden Globe Awards for the show. “Succession” wrapped up its critically-acclaimed run at HBO after four...

Oi there, listen up! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for June 2024 includes another season of its biggest, bloodiest hit.
The Boys season 4 premieres its first three episodes on Thursday, June 13. Based on the trailers, The Boys is really leaning into the political side of its social satire with a presidential election underway and Homelander on trial for the small matter of killing a guy last season. The season will continue to air on Thursdays, culminating with the finale on July 18.
Amazon is really leaning into its sports offerings this month as well. Fans will get to watch the New York Yankees, the WNBA, and the Nwsl several times throughout June. That’s in addition to a couple of sports docs: Power of the Dream on June 18 and Federer: Twelve Final Days on June 20.
But if you’re looking for something even more explosive than Homelander and Roger Federer,...

Director Scott Mann’s thriller Fall, which stars Grace Caroline Currey (Shazam!: Fury of the Gods) and Virginia Gardner (Halloween 2018) as a pair of characters who get stuck at the top of a 2000 foot tall radio tower, was given a theatrical release, but it wasn’t really a break-out hit. It made $21 million worldwide, on a budget of $3 million. More viewers watched it on Amazon, purchased it on Blu-ray or DVD (order it Here), or caught it on Starz or Netflix… and Fall was so successful on Netflix, it was enough to get back-to-back sequels greenlit by Capstone Studios! Mann will be writing and directing Fall 3 himself, but he has decided to hand the helm of the middle installment of this trilogy over another director. Or, as it turns out, other directors. Capstone Studios’ CEO Christian Mercuri has announced that Fall 2 is set to be directed by the filmmaking...

Ethan Hawke goes back behind the camera for Wildcat, and here are details of his new film – plus a trailer.
Ethan Hawke is better known as an actor than a director, with a prolific career that has included many collaborations with Richard Linklater – the sublime Before trilogy, Tape, The Newton Boys and Boyhood stand tall. Plus, films as diverse as Dead Poet’s Society, Training Day, The Purge, Predestination and Lord Of War – the sequel to the latter is currently in development, with writer and director Andrew Niccol and star Nicholas Cage on board. It has not been confirmed if Hawke will appear.
However, he has also steadily built up an impressive career behind the camera. Besides co-writing the last two Before films with Linklater and Julie Delpy, he has directed several documentaries and three feature films – Chelsea Walls in 1999, The Hottest State, adapted from his own novel in 2006, and...

Actor Ethan Hawke became a film star after having done films like Dead Poets Society and Training Day. But overtime, Hawke began to notice a pattern among contemporary film stars that he wanted to take a break from.

Hawke’s filmography isn’t brimming with box-office hits like some of his contemporaries. Looking back on the actor’s work, even his successful films seem to focus less on spectacle and more on character work. This was designed by the actor earlier on in his career, who confided that he didn’t want to necessarily be a movie star. This was partially due to the Gattaca star‘s upbringing.

Ever looked up the ending of a movie after you watched it? Well… you’re definitely not alone.
A formal list of the most confusing movies of all time has been assembled, according to how often the film’s title and “explained” is searched on the internet. After compiling a list of 150 films renowned for their puzzling plots and ambiguous endings, Im-a-puzzle‘s team analyzed searches that include a film title followed by “explained” in an effort to learn which top 15 films confused audiences the most.
Released in 2022, the list spans over six decades, beginning with Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” with the least amount of searches per month, totaling 4,200 searches. As the searches per month increase on the list, Christopher Nolan’s films land four of the 15 spots — including #1 for his 2020 puzzler “Tenet.” That film introduced the concept of “time inversion” and concerns different physical properties moving in different directions.

“It was hard finding someone to play Jake because I needed a real actor, I needed someone with some depth that could really act,” Fuqua once told Ain’t It Cool News. “I test screened about 15 people.

If January sets the tone for any streamer’s year then 2023 is certainly going to be the Year of True Crime on Hulu. That’s right, Hulu’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlight by several new true crime docuseries (and one charmingly goofy animated hero).
The true crime docuseries fest gets started with Death in the Dorms on Jan. 5. That will be followed by How I Caught My Killer on Jan. 12, and Web of Death on Jan. 19. The first is a six-episode series that will follow the real life case of murders at UCLA, while the latter two will both present several different stories.
It’s not just all true crime in January for Hulu. Jan. 9 sees the arrival of Koala Man, an animated series that envisions an Australian crime fighter of the same name. Also premiering is season 2 of How I Met Your Mather (Jan. 24) and superhero drama Extraordinary (Jan.

If it's Halloween, it must be "Saw." The franchise, first conceived by genre maestro James Wan and scribe Leigh Whannell, set the horror world ablaze. So much so, that by the time the fourth entry hit theaters in 2007, Lionsgate Films positioned the franchise as part and parcel of the Halloween season itself. Like Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger, franchise antagonist John Kramer, otherwise known as Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) became a horror icon. Often only heard in voiceover through the use of Billy the Puppet — an indelible piece of horror iconography — John Kramer radically subverted horror expectations.
John Kramer, dying from colon cancer, develops a series of tests for those he perceives as taking their lives for granted. He traps ostensible participants in deadly scenarios, forcing them to make difficult choices to survive. While the series postures as some kind of moral imperative, it mostly serves as a series of Grand Guignol exhibitions of outrageous,...

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between.
And today we talk about Handsome Hawke himself – Ethan Hawke! The multi-hyphenate has made a career out of B-Sides, and today we choose four: Great Expectations, Snow Falling on Cedars, Tape, and Predestination. Conor and I are lucky to have the great Luke Hicks along for the ride.
We discuss the early films of Hawke, the hotness of “Shark Hunter Hawke” in Great Expectations, his movie star run in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s, and his diverse pivot into character work up to and including the present.
There’s also talk of Hawke’s directorial career, some debate over is the deliberate pace of Snow Falling on Cedars actually works, and this in-depth piece on Predestination.

New Delhi, Oct 20 (Ians) Hollywood star Ethan Hawke says he wants to visit India and experience the culture of the country.
"I want to come to India so badly. India has always been one of those places, where I want to go," Hawke told Ians in an exclusive interview.
Hawke is best known for his performance as a narcotics officer in "Training Day", the hopeless romantic in the "Before Sunrise" franchise, the tormented Father Toller in 2018 film "First Reformed", and a bizarrely imagined time travelling agent in "Predestination".
The Oscar-nominated leading star, critical writer and director, is currently seen in "The Good Lord Bird". The limited series is based on a novel by James McBride, and is infused with themes of racism, religion and gender. The story is told from the point of view of Onion (Joshua Caleb Johnson) a fictional enslaved boy who becomes a member of John Brown's family of abolitionist soldiers.

Hollywood star Ethan Hawke compares living life to building a spider web, saying each moment, success and challenges are connected to each other beautifully.
"Life is a lot like building a spider web. You kind of jump from one corner to the next," Hawke told Ians in an exclusive interview while looking back at his journey from a child actor to a star.
"The little journeys don't seem significant (at that moment). But (when you) look back and when we see the whole journey, you see how they are all connected to each other. It can be very beautiful," he added.
Hawke continued: "The parts that were most challenging, (which you thought were the most difficult), were where the most growth happened. I'm very grateful to my craft and my profession because it allows you to meet all kinds of people."

Snarled loops of time travel have proved a surprisingly versatile and rewarding fantasy-cinema trope in recent years, from the big-budget likes of “Edge of Tomorrow” to such enterprising indies as “Predestination,” not to mention comedies (“Palm Springs”), horror (“Happy Death Day”), romance (“Before I Fall”) and more. “Volition” makes a worthy addition to that roster: . Tony Dean Smith’s clever thriller lands July 10 on digital platforms and available theater screens, where it should continue to be as well-received by sci-fi fans as it has been on the genre-festival circuit.

While some distributors are cutting back, Umbrella Entertainment plans to release approximately 18 titles in cinemas this year, up from 14 in 2019.
The distributor has high hopes for its Australian acquisitions which run the gamut of genres from drama, horror and Western to sci-fi.
“We’re passionate about overcoming the cultural cringe that Australian audiences still have a tendency to display and are dedicated to fostering new Australian talent,” Umbrella head of acquisitions Ari Harrison tells If.
“As a small, close-knit team, we aim to concentrate our efforts on films that we love and can support from the ground up. We want to work hand-in-hand with the filmmakers with the goal of getting their film ‘out there’ so that it finds its audience.
“Essentially we aim to ensure that the films we acquire have the capacity for national theatrical success in Australia and New Zealand, with potential for continued growth via their ancillary platforms.

Friends and colleagues have paid tribute to film and TV first assistant director Jamie Leslie, who died on Friday from cancer. He was 62.
His final film in a distinguished 38-year career was Kriv Stenders’ Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan.
“Not only was he an industry legend but he was an incredible mentor for me and a huge reason that film came to be,” Stenders says.
“Jamie came on early in pre-production when the film was teetering on the edge of an abyss. We weren’t bonded, we lost $2 million two weeks before shooting, we had no tanks, choppers or guns and we were running on fumes longer than I ever thought was humanly possible.
“But never once did he waver. He was my rock and every hour, every day we just worked the problem, until there was the next one.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday.
Ethan Hawke is having one hell of a year, and on both sides of the camera. After starting the summer with a profoundly moving turn in Paul Schrader’s “First Reformed,” he’s ending it with a pivotal role in Jesse Peretz’s romantic comedy, “Juliet, Naked.” And as if that weren’t enough, the guy also wrote and directed a musical biopic about the late country-western legend, Blaze Foley, which is just beginning to expand across the country.
As a tribute to Hawke’s long and restless career, this week’s survey asked critics to pick their favorite of his performances to date.

If you’re a fan of cinema, chances are, you’re also a fan of Ethan Hawke. The multi-hyphenate actor/writer/director has made a career out of exploring interesting avenues. As stated once before in a look at the man, there seems to be almost nothing that Hawke can not do. He’s directed films (including a documentary), written novels, starred in tiny indies, large scale movies, and everything in between. He’s likely best known for his collaborations with Richard Linklater, but they hardly define the man. A four time Academy Award nominee, he’s a perfect candidate for a Spotlight piece. After all, if he ever gets to a fifth Oscar nomination without a win, he’ll be hugely overdue for a statue. Hawke’s new film is, of course, First Reformed, which pairs him with filmmaker Paul Schrader. The movie is described cryptically as follows on...

Sony Pictures Television Networks has ordered Reckoning, a 10-episode straight-to-series psychological thriller drama, from writer David Hubbard (Noel) and veteran showrunner David Eick.

Sony Pictures Television Distribution will handle worldwide sales of the series, which will be wholly produced and post-produced in Australia.

There aren’t many identical twins in the directing and producing game. So, one of the first sets to come to mind is identical twins Peter and Michael Spierig – who make up The Spierig Brothers production company. These German-born twins moved to Australia at the age of four and were quickly captivated by the idea of directing and producing their own films. Their film debut came in 2003 and was called Undead. They are also known for Daybreakers, Predestination, and Jigsaw, among other films. The two write, direct, and produce their films side-by-side. Plus, they are always involved with the

Helen Mirren headlines Winchester, a horror movie that soon loses its way...
Not to be confused with Supernatural brothers Sam and Dean, Winchester is the new film from Michael and Peter Spierig, the duo behind Daybreakers and Predestination, but also last year's Jigsaw. It's a Hammer-style haunted house ghost story that finds Helen Mirren on unusual, scenery chewing form as Sarah Winchester, the widowed heiress to an empire of violence.
Subtitled as The House That Ghosts Built in some territories, this Australian-American co-production finds a very Hammer-esque character, doctor Eric Price (Jason Clarke), visiting Sarah's enormous mansion in San Jose, California. He's there to evaluate her mental health on behalf of her board of directors at the Winchester Repeating Arms company, after she has thrown herself and a lot of her money continuing construction on the mansion's eccentric architecture in order to stave off vengeful spirits. Directed by Michael and Peter Spierig and starring Helen Mirren, Winchester is the latest gothic horror offering from the people who brought you, amongst other things, the hugely underrated 2009 film Predestination, an adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein’s cult sci-fi novel All You Zombies. However, anyone expecting more of the same from the hard working duo’s latest outing would be sorely let down by this deeply muddled and frankly baffling production, which simply fails to deliver on an otherwise great premise.
Set sometime around the turn of the last century, Winchester opens with a laughably predictable “based on a true story” pre-credit title and carries on much in the same fashion with a crash, a bang, and jump-scare until its inevitable denouement, which couldn’t come soon enough.

Helen Mirren wears a widow’s funeral veil for much of this supernatural spine-tingler, possibly in anticipation of its box-office prospects. Billed as being “inspired by actual events,” Winchester draws on a fascinating true story but then simplifies and sensationalizes it to fit creaky, clunky horror conventions. The joint directors and co-writers are Australian twin brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, who scored critical acclaim with their 2014 sci-fi thriller Predestination, then rebooted the Saw slasher franchise last year with the poorly reviewed but commercially successful Jigsaw.

Welcome to this week’s “Preview Reel” column, where we look at the week’s upcoming wide-release movies. Maze Runner: The Death Cure ended Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’s reign last week as it opened with an impressive $23.5 million. It won’t have much competition this week as there is only one new wide-release film, Winchester, due to the big football game on Sunday. Is the Helen Mirren-led horror movie capable of the number one spot or is it just a forgettable cash grab? Glad you asked….

The dead are restless in the brand new trailer from The Spierig Brothers’ Winchester.
Inspired by the true story of Sarah Winchester (Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren), heiress to the Winchester fortune, who believes her family to be cursed and built the most haunted house in history to lay the vengeful spirits. The gothic thriller also stars Jason Clarke & Sarah Snook and opens in theaters everywhere Friday, February 2nd.
On an isolated stretch of land 50 miles outside of San Francisco sits the most haunted house in the world. Built by Sarah Winchester, (Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren) heiress to the Winchester fortune, it is a house that knows no end. Constructed in an incessant twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week mania for decades, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms.
To the outsider it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman’s madness.

In the years since breaking away from the heartthrob roles that made him famous in the 90s and a central figure of pop culture, Ethan Hawke has been keeping himself very busy with a wide range of projects and outdoing himself in each one. From award winners (Boyhood) and Canadian indies (Maudie) to mind-bending sci-fi (Predestination) to horror (Sinister), he has become one of the most interesting and consistently great actors working today.
His latest, an action thriller titled 24 Hours to Live, isn't going to be winning any awards for creativity in either the title or plot department but Hawke is always fun to watch and if nothing else, director Brian Smrz certainly has the experience behind the camera to pull this one off.

Even though it’s located about six hours north of where I currently reside, I admittedly knew very little about the Winchester Mystery House prior to last week, which is when Daily Dead attended a special tour of one of the most haunted houses in America, alongside Michael and Peter Spierig. The duo recently celebrated the debut of the new trailer for their upcoming supernatural horror project, Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built, which stars Oscar-winner Helen Mirren, Jason Clarke, and Sarah Snook (who the directors recently collaborated with on Predestination), and the filmmakers were eager to head inside and talk more about the lengths they went to in order to stay true to who they believed Sarah Winchester was, and her passion for turning Winchester into one of the most perplexing properties in history.

Last month, I had the opportunity to check out the 4Dx in-theater technology for Andy Muschietti’s adaptation of It, and this week, I had a chance to hop into the hot seat once again for Jigsaw, the latest entry of the Saw franchise, which was helmed by Michael and Peter Spierig. As someone who is something of a Saw enthusiast, I was eager to see what the brothers behind such films as Daybreakers and Predestination had in store with their new deadly game of survival and redemption.
**Spoiler Alert: Because I’ll be discussing how the 4Dx technology played into certain specific moments in Jigsaw, there will be some spoilers that follow (plus, I have my own “waxing poetic” moments about this franchise that I’m eager to discuss). I’d recommend seeing the film for yourself first before reading any further.**

[Warning: This story contains spoilers for Jigsaw]
Jigsaw, the seventh sequel in the seemingly deathless Saw horror series, enters theaters with a lot of baggage. And, to be fair, co-directors Michael and Peter Spierig (Daybreakers, Predestination) and co-writers Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg (Piranha 3D, Sorority Row) do half-heartedly downplay some of the more tedious elements that have come to define the earlier Saw movies.
For starters, the "torture" aspect of the fatal death-trap "tests" that serial killer John "Jigsaw" Kramer (franchise staple Tobin Bell) puts his victims through is taken down several notches. Jigsaw features far fewer — and...

This coming Friday, October 27th, Jigsaw takes back Halloween. From Peter and Michael Spierig (Daybreakers, Predestination, and the forthcoming Winchester), Lionsgate has shared with us the final batch of images from the eighth Saw film that offers up some new clues while also displaying some old traps. The most intriguing is the shot of Jigsaw’s empty casket, who looks to be back for […]...
