“Un-romantic comedy” has been picked up by Octane Entertainment ahead of the Efm.
Hot Property, the UK indie comedy starring MyAnna Buring, has secured an international sales deal with Us outfit Octane Entertainment, who will be selling the title at this week’s European Film Market (Efm) in Berlin.
UK marketing company Coffee & Cigarettes brokered the deal on behalf of the producers. 101 Films has taken UK rights and released the film in the Us in December 2016.
The film marks the feature debut of Max McGill, who was Bafta-nominated along with his Hot Property producer Campbell Beaton for producing Oscar Sharp’s 2014 short The Karman Line starring Olivia Colman. McGill co-wrote the screenplay with Dawn King, Tiernan Hanby also produced.
The film is a self-dubbed “un-romantic comedy” set amid London’s property market and hipster culture. Buring stars alongside Tom Rhys Harries, Alex Ferns, Ella Smith and Kate Bracken.

The 2015 BAFTA Awards have been revealed and if you're of the group that believes they hold any kind of influence over the Oscars or serve as any kind of predictor, well, you may be moving Boyhood back to the top line of your Best Picture and Director predictions as Richard Linklater's twelve-year project took home three wins including Best Picture, Director and Supporting Actress, though it was The Grand Budapest Hotel, which lead the nomination field with 11 noms, that lead all winners taking home five awards, all below the line outside of the win for Best Original Screenplay. Personally I'm not ready to move Birdman below Boyhood in either Picture or Director as it only took home one award, Best Cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki, though one interesting category to keep an eye on is Best Actor at the Oscars as the precursors suggest it will be Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything...

BAFTA, the British Oscars, has revealed the nominations for their annual awards and Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" led with 11 nominations including Best Picture where it will duke it out with "Birdman," "Boyhood," "The Imitation Game," and "The Theory of Everything" for the trophy.
But, Ava DuVernay's "Selma" and Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" were completely ignored!
Some surprising twists -- Steve Carell, noted as Best Actor for "Foxcatcher" has been relegated to the Best Supporting Actor category. And I'm happy to report that the British Academy voters gave love to "Nightcrawler" for Best Actor (Jake Gyllenhaal), Original Screenplay (Dan Gilroy), Editing (John Gilroy), and my "it's-about-time-they-honor-her" rant, Rene Russo for Best Supporting Actress!
We'll find out the winners on Sunday, February 8th. The BAFTA Awards will be broadcast on BBC One w;ith Stephen Fry performing the hosting honors.

It’s almost time for the British Academy Film Awards, and earlier today (January 9) the illustrious list of nominees was unveiled. Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel” is out in front with 11 nods, while “Birdman” is close behind with an impressive 10 chances for glory.
Meanwhile, both Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) have been nominated for Best Actor, though Redmayne insists there’s no competition between them. He explained, "One can try and create a rivalry but it will not happen! We both absolutely understand people wanting to pitch us against each other, but we are old, old friends and I think he is the most wonderful actor. He is sensational in 'The Imitation Game' and I love watching him.”
The 2015 BAFTA Awards will be announced at the Royal Opera House in London, England on February 8th. And the nominees are:...

Last night the 2015 BAFTA award nominations were announced with The Grand Budapest Hotel leading the field with 11 nominations and Birdman and The Theory of Everything not too far behind with ten nominations each. But as much as the talk will be of who got nominated, the fact Ava DuVernay's Selma went home without a single nomination will certainly have people wondering about its Oscar chances. Well, don't worry, it's getting nominated, it just won't win. However, the one film that does seem to be truly in trouble (despite Angelina Jolie meeting the Pope) is Unbroken, which also didn't receive a single nomination. Just yesterday I moved Unbroken out of the list of my Best Picture predictions and it seems that may have been the right move. Other intriguing developments include no nomination for The Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum. The film earned nine nominations, but director wasn't one of them,...

Ahead of the 72nd annual Golden Globes, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the nominees for the 68th British Academy Film Awards (a.k.a. the BAFTAs) on Friday morning. Leading the pack is The Grand Budapest Hotel with 11 nominations.
The recognition for Wes Anderson’s comedy comes as a surprise since the film has only managed to pick up a handful of nominations in the U.S., including Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and Best Director at the Golden Globes, which airs live on Sunday, Jan. 11.

Like the Academy Awards, the BAFTAs honor cinematography, costume design, editing, production design, and sound -- many of the additional awards The Grand Budapest Hotel is up for at this year’s ceremony.

This year’s BAFTA nomination list is studded with former Screen International Stars of Tomorrow – in particular the acting sections, with two Best Actor contenders in Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne.
This is highly likely to be repeated at the Oscars, with Selma’s David Olewayo (a Star of Tomorrow in 2005, alongside Redmayne; Cumberbatch featured in 2004) making the Best Actor category at the Academy Awards a potentially Stars-of-Tomorrow-dominated section.
Felicity Jones, BAFTA-nominated for her role in The Theory of Everything, was talent spotted by Screen International in 2007. She is also tipped to feature on the Oscar nominations list.
Moving into its 12th year in 2015, Screen’s Stars of Tomorrow issue, which traditionally is published in June, is the definitive talent-spotting feature in the UK, known internationally as an unparalleled identifier of young talent.
This year’s Ee BAFTA Rising Star nominees Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jack O’Connell featured in Screen International as far back as 2008, for instance...

Yann Demange's "'71" had a strong showing in the nominations stage for the 2014 British Independent Film Awards, but it was Matthew Warchus' "Pride" walking away with top honors, including Best Film, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. However, my favorite win of the evening has to be Brendan Gleeson's for the underrated "Calvary." Gugu Mbatha-Raw ("Belle") rounded out the acting honors. Nothing for "The Imitation Game" or "Selma," but as our old friend Guy Lodge noted on Twitter, I'm sure they'll do fine elsewhere this season. Check out the full list of winners below, and remember to keep track of the season at The Circuit. Best Film "Pride" Best Actor Brendan Gleeson, "Calvary" Best Director Yann Demange, "'71" Best Actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw, "Belle" Best Supporting Actor Andrew Scott, "Pride" Best Supporting Actress Imelda Staunton, "Pride" Best Screenplay "Frank" Best Achievement in Production "The Goob" Best Documentary...

The edge-of-your seat thriller that was all the talk at this year’s Berlin Film Festival (that momentum was carried over into Telluride and Tiff during the fall) leads all noms for the 17th edition of the 2014 British Independent Film Awards. Landing nine nominations in all, Yann Demange’s ’71 might lead the pack, but I’d argue that despite all the fanfare, remains an underdog in most categories. Going up against The Imitation Game (which failed to score Morten Tyldum a Best Director nod but managed to get Best Screenplay and Best Film consideration) and Mike Leigh’s Mr Turner, there might be plenty of gift-giving for several films on December 7th, with Matthew Warchus’ Pride also in the mix with a whopping seven noms (mostly in the acting categories). The much deserving Cannes played Catch Me Daddy and Venice Film Fest included The Goob thankfully didn’t go unnoticed,...

Exclusive: Oscar Sharp has been signed to a blind deal to hatch a film through Tobey Maguire’s development financing arm of Material Pictures. This comes after Sharp’s short film, The Karman Line, made it into SXSW and organically became a viral sensation. I can remember when clever short films like Saving Ryan’s Privates would be passed around via cassette, in hopes that agents or studio execs would notice. The digital age means that aspiring filmmakers need only to post their shorts, and watch the viewership numbers accumulate. The short got Sharp signed with UTA and Management 360. Sharp is a Fullbright Scholar and Tisch Mfa candidate.
Maguire separately used Material’s buying ability to acquire a pitch from Pitch Perfect author Mickey Rapkin that is based on his previous book Theater Geek. The deal was sealed as several studios bid on the material. Film 360 will produce along...
