*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by director Tricia Lee. **there are minor spoilers here. Director: Tricia Lee. Writer: Corey Brown. Cast: Lara Gilchrist, Benjamin Arthur, Torri Higginson and Mark Taylor. Blood Hunters is a film from director Tricia Lee (Silent Retreat) and writer Corey Brown (Clean Break). This creature feature recently had a showing at the FrightFest Film Festival, in the United Kingdom. Very indie, the film takes place, exclusively, in an underground medical facility. Here, the lighting and setting look great. However, almost all of the characters are unlikeable and most are immoral, especially Marion (Torri Higginson). Marion causes most of the film's chaos, due to her incompetency. The film's overly sappy tone also dampens the mood as Blood Hunters focuses on dialogue, over tension, conflict and real terror. Blood Hunters is a dramatic horror feature and it will appeal to some, but it did not entertain this viewer.

A sinister thriller, titled Blood Hunters, is moving towards a World Premiere. To show at Frightfest, in the United Kingdom, the film will have its World Premiere in late August. The film was written by Corey Brown (Silent Retreat) and directed by Tricia Lee. Lara Gilchrist and Julian Richings star, in this Canadian shot feature. And now, a trailer is available for the film and it looms below. A snippet of the film's story has been released. Focusing on a pregnant women, a medical facility has come under attack, by something disfigured. Ellie (Gilchrist) must discover the facility's purpose and escape, before she gives birth. Or, she and her child will be devoured by creatures, of unimaginable origins. The trailer shows some of the film's settings and characters. Shot almost exclusively within an austere structure, the clip focuses on Ellie as she is surprised by her pregnancy. Bodies lay about everywhere.

Backcountry
Directed by Adam MacDonald
Written by Adam MacDonald
2014, USA
Backcountry is the Candy Crush of the horror movie genre: it’s a well executed, well directed contemporary horror film, that’s enjoyable and re-watchable despite its flaws.
Backcountry (also known as Blackfoot Trail) is the debut feature film from the talented Adam MacDonald, best known for his years of work as a television actor. The film tells the story of a couple who leave the comforts of city life to venture deep into the Canadian hinterlands. However, what they find on their journey challenges both their relationship and their very lives.
Featuring a mostly Canadian cast and crew, writer and director MacDonald crafts a conventional horror film that’s quite good for a directorial debut. Considering that Macdonald shot Backcountry in only a few weeks and on a shoestring budget, it excels technically, is easy to follow, and tells...

If I learned anything from the Evil Dead remake, it's that rehabbing in a cabin in the woods isn't exactly the best way to try to get clean and sober. Apparently, no one bothered to pass that message along to the protagonist in Silent Retreat, who's got more than addiction to fend off.
Be extra quiet, and check out the trailer below!
Directed by Tricia Lee, the film stars Chelsea Jenish, Robert Nolan, and Sofia Banzhaf.
Synopsis
In this quiet horror film, Janey is sent to a silent retreat in the middle of the woods for rehabilitation, only to discover that the men who run it are after more than her voice and aren’t afraid to show her what lurks beyond the trees...

In this quiet horror film, Janey is sent to a silent retreat in the middle of the woods for rehabilitation, only to discover that the men who run it are after more than her voice, and aren’t afraid to show her what lurks beyond the trees…
Review:
Silent Retreat gets off to a really promising start- a bunch of girls in a woodsy rehabilitation center ran by some weirdo and his two boys. Each girl has their own tiny cabin to sleep in. There’s no talking, reading, writing, listening to music, watching movies, internet… no nothing. If these rules are broken, there are repercussions implemented with a 2-strike rule. If you talk, you can forget about eating dinner. 2Nd strike is a bit more severe. There...

Opting for a rehabilitation program over jail time, Janey (Chelsea Jenish) discovers the hidden ramifications of her choice when she arrives at an isolated camp, where she is told by the strict “doctor” (Robert Nolan) that she, and the other young women at the retreat, can’t talk to or interact with each other. Things are compounded when Janey discovers that people aren’t the only things that inhabit the area.
The idea of using extreme silent treatment to control and condition the young women to the doctor’s misogynistic standards is an interesting approach to attacking traditional gender roles and patriarchy (the place is run by the doctor and his two sons, a nice homage to A Clockwork Orange), but the way in which Silent Retreat goes about this is often heavy-handed and conspicuous. Also, for a story...
