We first told you back in July about Syfy giving the green light to the pilot Dominion, based on characters in the 2010 film Legion. Back then we had little to go on besides a sketchy paragraph about it being set 25 years in the future after an epic war between an army of angels and humankind.
Now we have more, including not only the casting of three major characters (at least two of whom are likely familiar to you) but a lot more in the way of plot and character detail.
Although I’m completely enthusiastic and encouraging about this pilot, the fact that one of the actors, Christopher Egan, was also cast in the pilot Gothica as Dorian Gray proves that casting a pilot by no means guarantees its pickup to series.
You have been warned; get excited about this, but don’t fall in love just yet:

Chris Egan is to play the lead role in Syfy's new pilot Dominion.

Canceled action drama "Hunted" starring Melissa George may be on its way back to TV.
The show's eight-episode first season aired last fall and was produced in partnership between UK's BBC One and Us cable network Cinemax. The BBC opted not to continue its involvement back in November of last year and the show was essentially canceled.
But Cinemax has apparently been exploring alternative ways to keep the show alive, and now Deadline is reporting "Hunted" creator Frank Spotnitz is developing the spinoff miniseries "Sam Hunter" for the network.
The four-hour event will follow the continuing adventures of George's character, private espionage agent Sam, who is on the run from her former employer while trying to protect her young daughter.
After the "Hunted" cancellation, George moved on to a starring role in ABC's horror soap pilot "Gothica," but the show was not picked up to series, freeing her up once again for "Hunted.

New York — The slow, lingering demise of "Smash" has felt more like a punch to the gut to the folks on Broadway.
The TV series about the making of a big stage musical came with a flurry of attention and some big names: Steven Spielberg, Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston. It was going to be a valentine to Broadway.
Sometimes, though, love letters get sent back.
After a first season with a healthy-sized audience averaging 7.7 million viewers, it returned this year to such dismal ratings it was banished to Saturday night. It won't be back for a third season.
But while TV was finally focusing on Broadway, plenty of stage veterans jumped to TV during the two-year run of "Smash." Some flamed out, some are holding on and some still hope:
_ Three-time Tony winner Sutton Foster's show about ballerinas, "Bunheads," has been picked up for a second season on ABC Family.

At PaleyFest 2013, Arrow showrunners were a little hesitant to say exactly how much of Roy Harper the series would feature moving forward into the show's second season. "It's pilot season", one producer stated. The meaning here is that actress Jessica De Gouw who portrays Huntress landed the female lead role in NBC's Dracula pilot and Seth Gabel who portrays "Count" Vertigo secured a costarring role on ABC's Gothica. Now that doesn't necessarily mean that the actors won't be returning to Arrow but if their pilots get picked up, it would most likely mean that at the very best, the duo would return for only an episode or two. Not so for Colton Haynes. While it appeared there was a chance Haynes could have similar pilot season success, The CW has secured Haynes for Season Two. It was also revealed at PaleyFest that Roy Harper will be coming...

We’ve only seen this guest star in one episode so far this season, but he left an impression – especially on Oliver’s sister Thea, whose bag he stole. Seth Gabel! I would have started this article with a long Woo Hoo if it wasn’t somewhat unprofessional. But please allow me to take a step back. Gothica (which by the way has absolutely nothing to do with the Halle Berry movie of the same name) is a pilot in development at ABC, described as a modern-day gothic horror soap surrounding the lives of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and more. Excellent, right?
This is not to be confused with the Showtime straight-to-series (no pilot required) Penny Dreadful, which features the same characters but in a Victorian London setting, that we told you about back in January. Nor is it to be confused with the modern-day I, Frankenstein movie which in turn is not to be confused with the Frankenstein movie that might have Daniel Radcliffe in it, as we reported earlier today. "Southland" star Ben McKenzie has scored the lead role in CBS' new legal pilot "The Advocates," but what does that mean for his future on the TNT cop drama?
According to TVLine, McKenzie will play Henry Bird in "The Advocates" pilot. His character is described as a "quietly determined" man who "is freed after being unjustly imprisoned for 16 years." He and a female lawyer will join forces to become "victim advocates," who will often skirt the edges of the law in the interests of representing the legal underdogs of the world.
McKenzie's pilot role is in second position to "Southland," but there's obviously enough interest from "Advocates" production studio Warner Bros. Benjamin Stockham of NBC‘s 1600 Penn has been cast in the network’s single-camera comedy pilot About A Boy, which follows the relationship between Will (David Walton), a bachelor man-child who is going through a revolving door of women, and the young boy (Stockham) who moves in next door with his kooky single mother, Fiona (Minnie Driver). I hear the casting, which is in second position to low-rated 1600 Penn, ruffled some feathers at 20th TV,...

With Hannibal, The Munsters, Sleepy Hollow, Penny Dreadful, The Following, and another season of American Horror Story coming to TV, it’s a wonderful time to be a horror TV fan. Add ABC’s Gothica to the mix.
Not to be messed up with the crappy Halle Berry movie Gothika, Gothica features a stable of our favorite literary horror characters, from Dorian Gray to Victor Frankenstein, Dracula, and others. It’s moving faster than Penny Dreadful, a similar sounding project at Showtime, and has found its Dorian Gray, Victor Frankenstein and “Grace” Van Helsing.
Chris Egan has been cast as Dorian Gray. The Aussie has appeared in Poe, Letters To Juliet, Kings, Resident Evil: Extinction, and Eragon.
Tom Ellis will be Victor Frankenstein. Ellis is a veteran of BBC TV, with The Fades, Gates, and a slew of others under his belt.

Grey’s Anatomy alumna Chyler Leigh is set to topline NBC’s comedy pilot Holding Patterns, from writer Justin Spitzer, Peter Traugott’s Tbd Prods and Universal TV. It is an ensemble multi-camera comedy about a group of friends whose lives completely change after they survive a plane crash. Leigh, repped by UTA and the Burstein Co, plays the sarcastic and free-spirited Leah, who ruins Griffin’s (Humphrey Ker) proposal dinner, and is the unintentional cause of the plane crash. Cold Case alumna Tracie Thoms, has booked a co-starring role opposite Janet Montgomery in ABC’s gothic soap pilot Gothica. Set in the present day, the ABC Studios/Mark Gordon Co project weaves together a mythology that incorporates the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein and Dorian Gray. The Made in Jersey star has been cast in a starring role in what appears might be interesting ABC’s monster drama Gothica – from Jersey girl to Lady Van Helsing, Janet Montgomery is making quite a leap. Gothica has a sort of Once Upon a Time concept of blending fictional characters with the modern world; it takes place in the present but incorporates stories from famous literary monster-classics, including Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Janet Montgomery’s character is Grace van Helsing. She’s the ex-wife of Dr. Frankenstein (Tom Ellis) and the partner of Dorian Gray (Chris Egan). A well-known writer from a publishing...

Showrunners have finally been named for the new ABC series "Gothica," and they bring with them some genre cred. Whether or not that will be enough to finally push the series over the top for the network remains to be seen, but we're rooting for them.
Deadline reports that "Reaper" creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have signed an overall deal with ABC Studios. Under the two-year pact, the writing-producing duo is joining the studio’s ABC drama pilot "Gothica," co-produced by ABC Studio-based Mark Gordon Co. Butters and Fazekas will serve as executive producers/showrunners, working alongside creator/executive producer Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer's Apprentice), who wrote the pilot.
Janet Montgomery ("Made in Jersey," "Entourage," Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead, The Hills Run Red) will play Grace Van Helsing, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist from New York who takes over her family’s hometown newspaper. Dorian Gray (Chris Egan...

Exclusive: Reaper creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have signed an overall deal with ABC Studios. Under the two-year pact, the writing-producing duo is joining the studio’s ABC drama pilot Gothica, co-produced by ABC Studio-based Mark Gordon Co. Butters and Fazekas will serve as executive producers/showrunners, working alongside creator/executive producer Matt Lopez. This marks a reunion for Butters and Fazekas with ABC Studios and the Mark Gordon Co, the companies behind the pair’s cult CW dramedy series Reaper. The gig on Gothica, a gothic soap, also marks Butters and Fazekas’ first full-time genre effort since Reaper. (They did some consulting work on Fox’s Dollhouse and Terra Nova). Deadline report that Made In Jersey/Human Target actress Janet Montgomery has been cast as Grace Van Helsing in ABC's Gothica, which will re-imagine some classic horror icons, giving us a present-day take on the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein and Dorian Gray. So far so Alan Moore's League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen right? Well, modern day setting aside, yes. Apparently Montgomery's Van Helsing will be a "Pulitzer prize winning journalist from New York who takes over her family’s hometown newspaper". The show will also star Chris Egan as Dorian Gray, who provides her with the $20 million she needs to retain control of the paper, and To Ellis as Victor Frankenstein, to whom Van Helsing was engaged. No word yet on whether any other, more supernatural, characters will be popping up, but I'd say it's a safe bet.

Bouncing back quickly from the fall failure of CBS' "Made in Jersey," Janet Montgomery has snagged one of the leads in ABC's horror smorgasbord "Gothica." Per The Hollywood Reporter, Montgomery will play Grace Van Helsing, a writer who begins an investigation into who or what killed her parents. Based on her last name, we're gonna go with "vampires" or something. The trade says that Van Helsing is Victor Frankenstein's (Tom Ellis) ex-girlfriend and that she's Dorian Gray's (Chris Egan) "partner." As you can guess, "Gothica" takes a lot of iconic horror/gothic characters and runs them through a...
