The title comes from the erroneously attributed catchphrase from the Burns and Allen TV series The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show (1950). George Burns would say "Say goodnight, Gracie", and the reply should have been "Goodnight, Gracie". Although Gracie Allen never actually said that, the catchphrase is often mentioned.
Mitchell's courtroom scene parallels the courtroom trial scenes in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). Specifically, Mitchell (being an attorney) defends his client (eventually multiple impromptu clients) just like Atticus Finch, as Cameron is wearing a similar 3-piece khaki suit and mimics Finch's southern accent while using his handkerchief to mitigate his perspiration inside the hot courtroom.
When Mitch said "Shame!" in the courtroom, it was a call back from S01 E15 "My Funky Valentine", when Mitch did his court-room speech and called out Ted Durkas that stole the girl Manny liked.
This is the second time somebody dies in the series the first being Walt Kleezak.
Fifth appearance of Frank Dunphy (he appeared on video calls 2 times)
