Alex Cooper’s popular Call Her Daddy podcast is no longer exclusive to Spotify.
As of Jan. 30, the back catalog of the podcast is available on all audio platforms, with the first new episode released on all platforms Wednesday. Video will remain exclusive to Spotify.
Cooper’s podcast had been airing exclusively on Spotify since July 2021 and had been one of the most popular podcasts on the platform. In July 2021, Spotify signed a multiyear deal with Cooper, which gave it exclusive rights to future episodes of Call Her Daddy, as well as the back catalog of the podcast and future projects from Cooper.
The move to broaden distribution of the podcast comes as Spotify moves further away from the exclusive distribution model. The Joe Rogan Experience, which is consistently among the top charting podcasts on the platform, remains exclusive to Spotify.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus can add another award to her trophy case: Apple’s podcaster of the year.
Louis-Dreyfus’ podcast, Wiser Than Me, which she launched in April, has been named Apple Podcast’s show of the year for 2023, and the recipient of the Apple Podcasts Award.
The award is given out every year by the tech giant “to honor a show that demonstrates quality and innovation in podcasting.” It is not given to the year’s most popular or listened to show, though its chart position is one of the factors considered alongside the quality of the program.
Wiser Than Me spent 29 days on Apple Podcasts’ U.S. chart, and ranked number 5 on Apple’s top new shows list. Previous recipients of the Apple Podcasts Award include Slate’s Slow Burn, Pushkin’s A Slight Change of Plans, and NPR’s Code Switch.

"You may or may not see me at some Dolphins games," Alix Earle says on TikTok. Cut to footage of the influencer tailgating outside of Miami's Hard Rock Stadium on Sept. 24. She and her friends are drinking mimosas, and she's wearing an oversize Braxton Berrios jersey she customized by cutting down the middle. Then she's on the field, twerking beside the team mascot.
Earle and Barrios previously made their first public appearance at the Espy Awards in July, but this somehow felt like their big debut. It's worth noting the Dolphins went on to score 70 points that game, the most points any NFL team has scored since 1966. A few days after, Berrios shared a photo hugging Earle on the sidelines. "Big W," his caption reads.
As fame itself shifts, more celebrity couples seem to be using sporting events to hard launch their romances. (It helps if your significant other is on the team.

Alex Cooper‘s Unwell Network is off to a tremendous start. Less than two months after its official launch, the media company has claimed the top two spots on the Spotify podcast charts. At the time of this post, Alix Earle‘s new show Hot Mess is in first place, while Cooper’s Call Her Daddy ranks second.
Spotify’s podcast charts incorporate multiple data points, including total followers and unique listeners. In the latest version of the ranking, Hot Mess and Call Her Daddy both surpassed The Joe Rogan Experience on Spotify’s charts. That’s no small feat. Rogan’s podcast is not just a Spotify exclusive — it was the platform’s most popular show in both 2021 and 2022.

Susan Sarandon, playing the U.S. Secretary of State Alaska Adams, gets the better of Bryan Brown, as the Australian prime minister, in a fast-paced verbal duel that represents the first footage from the Sean Penn-produced satirical comedy series “C*A*U*G*H*T.”
An elite team of Aussie soldiers is sent to an island nation to retrieve a secret file that has gone astray. Mistaken for Americans, they are captured by freedom fighters and produce a hostage video that goes viral. When the soldiers achieve celebrity status on social media, they realize that being caught might just be the best thing that could’ve happened to them.
“C*A*U*G*H*T” explores themes of identity, fame, and the absurdity of the viral age. “Why can’t we comedically deconstruct the intellectual ideas that humanity is facing right now?” says Kick Gurry who directs, produces and stars in the six-part series.

“Jeanne Du Barry,” the latest film from French director Maïwenn that stars Johnny Depp, has found a North American distributor in Vertical following its Cannes debut, an individual with knowledge told IndieWire.
“Jeanne Du Barry” was the opening night film at the Cannes Film Festival last month, where it received a 7-minute standing ovation from the crowd in the Palais. But it was a controversial choice because of Depp’s continued career rehab following the highly publicized defamation trial between him and ex-wife Amber Heard, but also because of a report against Maïwenn that accused her of assaulting a journalist, an accusation she later admitted to.
The film stars Depp as the French King Louis Xv in a supporting role and primarily follows Maïwenn as Jeanne Vaubernier, an 18th Century French working class woman who became King Louis Xv’s lover. Here’s the full synopsis:

Saturday marks the final day of the Cannes Film Festival, with the usual closing ceremonies and awards presentations along with the out-of-competition premiere of Pixar’s “Elemental.” Let us all hope that Disney release earns better festival notices than Lucafilm’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”
“Perfect Days” makes a perfect debut.

Wim Wenders’ “Perfect Days” was the hero of the day, earning strong notices and the now-standard standing ovation. TheWrap’s Nicholas Barber called it “an endearing, admiring portrait of a decent man.” The near-consensus was that Wenders had made his best narrative film in a very long time. The film has already been acquired by Neon, which has been on a shopping spree with “this film”Perfect Days, “Robot Dreams” and “Anatomy of a Fall.

The stars are out at this year’s Cannes, and not just on the red carpet that leads up to the splashy premieres that make the festival the most glamorous celebration of movies in the world. From Daisy Ridley to Alicia Vikander, Angelina Jolie to Sylvester Stallone, Idris Elba to Jude Law, several A-list actors are attached to projects that are being brought to market at Cannes in what looks like its biggest edition in years. Will all that high-wattage talent lead to one mega-deal after another?
“It’s obviously going to be an outrageously busy market,” says Constantin Film’s Martin Moszkowicz. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen as much product, definitely not for the last couple of years, led by very high-profile movies with big cast, big directors, big budgets.”
Yet, the big question, Moszkowicz adds, is when and how all these projects will get made.

The ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike casts a cloud over what otherwise promises to be a solid Cannes film market. Most buyers and sellers came out of Berlin this year “cautiously optimistic” as the (partial) resurgence of the theatrical market alongside a slowly but steadily growing digital ancillary business offers reason to believe reports of the death of the indie industry — widespread in the wake of the Covid theater shutdowns — have been greatly exaggerated.
“I see the investment by Amazon and Apple TV in the theatrical business as a real positive,” says David Garrett of Mister Smith Entertainment, “because it shows they recognize the real value of the theatrical experience.” Amazon’s success with Ben Affleck’s sports-marketing biopic Air, which grossed upwards of $80 million worldwide in theaters before going out online, bodes well for the upcoming rollout of Apple’s Cannes title Killers of the Flower Moon from Martin Scorsese,...

Once upon a time, Todd Haynes’ hot Cannes Competition title “May December” — a psychological drama based on the Mary Kay Letourneau case, starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore — would already have a North American distributor. (A source placed its budget just under $20 million.) However, we no longer live in a world where buyers will overpay for a film before they can gauge its theatrical value: The risk is just too great.
That’s why sellers CAA and UTA opted to not show the film to distributors before the festival. Instead, they’re betting that an enthusiastic response from Cannes media and audiences will boost its sale price.
“People are being skittish about paying top dollar for a movie as easily as they did in the past,” said Sony Pictures Classics co-president Michael Barker. At Cannes, SPC will screen the Pedro Almodovar gay western short “Strange Way of Life” starring Ethan Hawke...
