Look around and you just may find yourself amid a Pet Shop Boys renaissance.
Of course, the English duo — consisting of Neil Tennant, 69, and Chris Lowe, 64 — never went anywhere. They have been steadily putting out music since their landmark 1984 debut, Please, which instantly established them with timeless songs like “West End Girls” and “Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots of Money).”
But Pet Shop Boys’ deep catalog has been plundered in recent years everywhere from Madison Avenue (“Opportunities” showed up in a Super Bowl ad for Allstate) to Hollywood (several classics were used to wonderful effect in two of last year’s zeitgeistiest movies, Saltburn and All of Us Strangers). Their signature sound is suddenly everywhere — wistful and longing, danceable and intellectually sophisticated synth-pop. Their 15th studio effort, Nonetheless, drops tomorrow and features more of that infectious trademark music.

Renowned for his contributions to art-house cinema, Phuttiphong Aroonpheng has garnered acclaim as a screenwriter and cinematographer. Additionally, its directorial efforts, such as the short film “Ferris Wheel” (2015), which received Special Mention at Sgiff, and “Manta Ray” (2018), which earned the prestigious Best Film Award in the Orizzonti section at Venice, are celebrated for their profound depth and intricate layers. “Morrison” is no exception. With echoes of David Lynch's aesthetics, it takes viewers on an enigmatic journey through the trauma of war from a unique perspective.

Dan Ojari and Mikey Please, the co-writers and co-directors of Aardman Animations’ musical film “Robin Robin,” which premiered on Netflix in November 2021, and was nominated for an Oscar the following year, say that a spinoff is in the cards.
“We are currently working on more stories in the world of ‘Robin, Robin,’” Please tells Variety. “I think that’s all we’re allowed to say. But that would certainly be our hopes and dreams. We feel like there are loads more stories to tell in this world, so we’d love to do more.”
“Robin Robin,” whose voice cast includes Bronte Carmichael, Adeel Akhtar, Gillian Anderson and Richard E. Grant, centers on a robin who is raised by a loving family of burglar mice. As Robin grows up, her differences become more apparent. She sets out to pull off a daring heist in a bid to prove to her family...

Johnny Marr teamed up with a 30-piece orchestra for the first of a two-night homecoming run in Manchester, England.
Across a 16-song setlist, the British guitar icon reimagined songs from his solo repertoire along with classics from The Smiths and his dance project with Bernard Sumner, Electronic. Highlights included “How Soon Is Now?,” “Easy Money,” and, of course, “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out,” during which Marr paid tribute to his late Smiths bandmate, Andy Rourke, who died this past May.
Speaking about the experience, Marr said that he couldn’t “help feeling a little bit emotional” hearing his songs receive symphonic treatment. “I’ve had two experiences of playing with an orchestra — Hans Zimmer, obviously, and also with Pet Shop Boys — but to actually sing in front of an orchestra playing my own work, that’s a first,” he said (per NME). “It’s been really enjoyable working on the arrangements.

"Hop on board and follow Antoine through his dreamy journey in the American landscapes..." Every once in a while we come across a mesmermzing music video that is a must watch. Enjoy this fresh animated video made for the French pop bland called Please and their track "Kind of Morning". The animation plays like a short film, hence why we're featuring it. The video tells a rather sweet story about a dock worker named Antoine who ends up on a voyage to America in search of a peaceful farm. It doesn't go the way he's hoping, and that's part of the lesson he learns along the way. The video is created by an animation group in France called Collectif 99°, a collective of talented animators & filmmakers; it's directed by three of them – Clara Franciosi, Salomé Hammann, and Valentine Vendroux. There is something funky yet endearing about this Antoine dude, the character design & also his story,...

Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain is one of those absurd movies that should only be watched with friends, and that too when you’re all high. Making no sense whatsoever, the film is a tale of three guys who resemble no actual teenagers on planet Earth. The dialogue in this film seems to have been written while the writers were under the influence, and the result is that the film doesn’t register on any emotional level. Having one ‘clever’ and ‘witty’ scene after another, the story is basically a tale about friendship, and embedded in it is a coming-of-age story, but the film becomes an adventure movie when the three mates go on to find the treasure of Foggy Mountain. Quirky would not be the right word to fully encapsulate the characters’ behavior in the film. I think this can be touted as a pure Gen Z movie.

Plot: The adventure of Ben, Martin, and John, three childhood friends turned deadbeat co-workers, who fend off hairless bears, desperate park rangers, and a hypocritical cult leader in the hopes of finding a priceless treasure, only to discover that finding the treasure is the easiest part of their journey.
Review: After achieving success with YouTube sketches during the Covid-19 pandemic, the trio known as Please Don’t Destroy joined Saturday Night Live in 2021 to produce digital shorts in the wake of The Lonely Island’s departure. After just two full seasons under their belt, Please Don’t Destroy has been given a feature film platform for their comedy. Following in the footsteps of countless movies from SNL veterans over the last forty years, Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain is premiering on Peacock, the perfect platform for this strange odyssey of ideas forced together into the semblance of a movie.

Like a Gen Z version of The Lonely Island but with a lot more smash-cuts and screaming, comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy — Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall — has made a name for themselves on the strength of the surreal and frequently self-deprecating digital shorts they contribute to “Saturday Night Live.” In “Plirts,” they pitched Austin Butler on the idea of wearing a shirt made out of plastic. In “Tommy,” the boys make the shocking discovery that their best friend is actually a 67-year-old Irish man (Brendan Gleeson). “We Got Her a Cat” is nominally about trying to surprise Zoë Kravitz with a new pet, but the real punchline is the reveal that Paul Dano has been living in the Please Don’t Destroy office while doing research for a movie about “three guys who suck.”

The comedy team known as Please Don't Destroy from recent seasons of "Saturday Night Live" have made quite a splash on the late night sketch comedy show. Acting as what is basically the newest equivalent of The Lonely Island, the trio comprised of Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall delivers hilarious pre-recorded sketches, and they're also part of the writing staff. Now, like many "SNL" cohorts before them, Please Don't Destroy is releasing their first movie, and the first trailer has arrived.
Originally intended for theaters, "Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain" is coming to Peacock in November instead, probably because the title wouldn't fit on most marquees. But in all seriousness, don't let its streaming destination make you think this movie isn't worth your time. This is the kind of comedy that studios aren't making much anymore, and it likely feels like it's just too much...
