Flambeau returns to Kembleford. Enticed by a coded message of a funeral taking place today of a man called Gabriel Hawksworth (Ian Gelder.)
Well Gabriel is alive and well and he turns out to be Flambeau's father.
Now he wants help after a robbery went wrong. It left a security guard dead. It was over the theft of a diamond encrusted crown. On behalf of crime boss Drake Underwood.
The guild ridden Gabriel wants to rob the crown back from Underwood. Give the money to the dead security guard's widow.
Flambeau regards it as a hopeless cause but decides to go ahead wit the heist with Father Brown. It just does not go according to plan.
The story deftly deals with some continuity issues. Flambeau previously told Father Brown that his father died in the war.
Another nice character piece. The bickering father and son manage to have a reconciliation.
