Brett Goldstein has become a familiar face to TV viewers in recent years thanks to his role in the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. However, he is more than just an actor, having also made a name for himself as a writer, producer, and comedian. One of Goldstein’s most recent projects is Shrinking, a comedy-drama series he executive produces for Apple TV+. The show’s first season premiered in January, and the critical response has been positive. As the show gears up for its second season, fans eagerly anticipate whether Goldstein will also appear in front of the camera.

An elated Brett Goldstein said he “was very, very specifically told I am not allowed to swear,” if he won, which he did Sunday, nabbing the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Ted Lasso. Working on the show, he said, “has been one of the biggest honors and privileges… and pleasures of my life.”
The British actor plays potty-mouthed soccer ace turned commentator turned coach Roy Kent in Ted Lasso, the AppleTV+ phenomenon that’s become the nascent streamer’s new calling card, has nabbed it for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
His cantankerous character with hidden depths was an Emmy favorite competing in a field of eight contenders where half were from Ted Lasso.
Nods for Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), Nick Mohammed (Nathan) and Jeremy Swift (Higgins) might well have resulted in vote splitting, which makes it hard for one actor to emerge from the pack victorious.

Roy Kent arrived at the exact right moment in Brett Goldstein’s life.
It’s already become a legendary bit of modern showbiz lore. The British actor, 41, was originally hired as a writer on Apple TV+’s breakout hit series Ted Lasso. After the writers room wrapped on the first season, however, Goldstein found himself struck by one of the characters — specifically, Roy Kent, the intimidating veteran forward of the show’s British premier league soccer team AFC Richmond. Fed up of big blockbusters right now? Here are some smaller movie treats to be found in August in UK cinemas...
Around this time of the year, we like to shine a spotlight on the slightly smaller films coming out after most of the box office juggernauts have been and gone. But with each annual feature, we've noticed that the year is filling up with blockbusters more and more. The year's first comic book movie was February's Deadpool, a surprise box office smash and Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice got 2016's blockbuster season started much earlier than usual.
We're late enough in this elongated season that August will find the blockbuster schedule repeating itself - Ben Affleck's Batman will be back on screen for a cameo in DC Movies' Suicide Squad, Disney follows The Jungle Book with a live-action remake of Pete's Dragon, and Ricky Gervais...

Tribeca-bound UK comedy Adult Life Skills (formerly known as How To Live Yours) has secured an international sales deal with Independent and a UK distribution deal with fledgling London-based outfit Lorton Distribution, which will make the film its first release.
Broadchurch actress Jodie Whittaker (Black Sea) stars in writer-director Rachel Tunnard’s Tribeca world-premiere about a young woman experiencing an early ‘mid-life crisis’ who lives in a shed at the bottom of her mum’s garden and makes videos using her thumbs as characters.
Supporting cast include Lorraine Ashbourne (The Selfish Giant), Brett Goldstein (SuperBob), Alice Lowe (Sightseers), Eileen Davies (Sightseers) Rachael Deering (The Last Hours Of Laura K), Edward Hogg (Jupiter Ascending) and newcomer Ozzy Myers.

This article contains mild spoilers for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. We've kept these as vague as possible, but if you haven't seen the film yet, you might wish to skip the entry pertaining to that.
2015 was a particularly exemplary year for all kinds of movies, but particularly in genre and blockbuster cinema. When there's so much to talk about, it's inevitable that some of the really good stuff gets lost in the mix of awards season chatter, but that's especially true when there's still some residual stigma about movies outside of the 'worthy' release schedule that will arrive in UK cinemas between now and the Academy Awards ceremony in February.

Jon Drever’s charming and funny 2009 accidental-superhero short gets the full-length treatment
Adapted from writer/director Jon Drever’s terrifically cute and pithy 2009 short film of the same name, this uneven but gently amusing expansion follows meteorically transformed Bob Kenner as he spends his day off on the streets of Peckham (“people say it’s a bit stabby”) and clocks in at the MoD, where his invincible flying powers are in bureaucratic demand. An inventively witty low-budget British riposte to Hancock, SuperBob doesn’t quite negotiate some of its tonal shifts between mock-doc rom-com and traffic-accident tragedy, but co-writer and star Brett Goldstein holds it all together very amiably, while Catherine Tate, Natalia Tena and Ruth Sheen provide solidly entertaining support.

This silly British comedy concerns a Peckham postie with supernatural powers but no semblance of a love life
In the underpopulated Venn diagram intersection between superhero movie and Brit loser comedy sits this half-cooked tale of a Peckham postman with superpowers. Bob (Brett Goldstein, who also co-wrote the screenplay) was hit by a meteor and subsequently developed a skill set that includes laser vision, super strength and the ability to fly. However, the meteor had little effect on his frankly dismal social skills. He may have saved humanity many times over, but he hasn’t had a date in six years. All this might be about to change: it’s Bob’s day off and he has arranged to meet the local librarian – but his Ministry of Defence handler (Catherine Tate) has other ideas. The film shares some thematic similarities with James Gunn’s vigilante nerd picture Super; however, the unfocused,...

Britain's first superhero heads to the screen - and SuperBob is an absolute treat. Here's our review...
It could hardly be said that the British film industry has been matching the current rate of production of American superhero movies. A Bananaman movie has been in the works for a couple of years, but until Marvel decides to greenlight a Captain Britain movie, the domain of caped crusaders and comic book action largely belongs to Hollywood.
It's therefore quite fitting that SuperBob is about Britain's first superhero, because it's functionally Britain's first superhero film, at least since Marvel Studios got going. While Marvel diversifies its films by setting them in different genres and is about to start turning out three movies a year with that model, even they haven't thought to make a low-budget romantic comedy yet.

From “Condorman” to “Hancock,” from “Blankman” to “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” the history of the superhero comedy is a less than illustrious one. Sure, the Marvel movies are pretty funny, but it’s surprising given the dominance of the comic book hero at the box office right now, that we haven’t seen more successful comic riffs on the underwear-over-tights genre. But one might have finally arrived. “SuperBob,” from director Jon Drever, hits cinemas in the U.K. in a few weeks, and it’s being billed by some as a sort of superheroic “Shaun Of The Dead.” Co-written by and starring “Derek” breakout Brett Goldstein, with “Doctor Who” and “The Office” star Catherine Tate, “Game Of Thrones” actress Natalia Tena, Laura Haddock from “Guardians Of The Galaxy,” and David Harewood from “Homeland,” among various familiar faces in support, the film focuses on the titular superhero, the only one in the world,...

But fear not – Jon Drever and Brett Goldstein’s movie avoids all the pitfalls that a low-budget superhero comedy can fall into, opting instead for a touching, often hilarious day-in-the-life of the world’s only superhero, Bob Kenner (Goldstein, who also co-wrote), a postman from Peckham whose life is forever transformed when he’s struck by a meteorite. The film tracks him through his day off, as Bob tries to go on a date while avoiding pressure from his bosses at the Ministry of Defence.
