Dallas Liu’s Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation has already shown us how the actor can handle CGI fire, and that puts the character in the running for a host of pyrokinetic characters across media. However, one character that Liu himself wishes to essay is a race-bent Pyro, the character from the X-Men with the exact powerset as Zuko.
Dallas James Liu in Avatar: The Last Airbender
Liu has already essayed a role in the MCU, appearing in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as the younger brother of Akwafina’s character, but that has not deterred the actor from voicing his MCU wishlist, which includes the pyrokinetic mutant Pyro, who is set to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, played by Aaron Stanford (who will be reprising his role back from his X-Men days)

All hell broke loose in the fifth episode of “X-Men ’97,” “Remember It.” The shocking events are so traumatic, in fact, that fired showrunner Beau DeMayo momentarily broke his silence about the show to explain why it was important to reflect that “the X-Men have now been hit hard by the realities of an adult and unsafe world.”
It was against this unpredictable backdrop that The Newton Brothers Andy Grush and Taylor Stewart composed a score (out May 24) for the reboot that both honored and transcended the spirit of “X-Men: The Animated Series.”
“We started tackling the music in a sort of multi-faceted way at first [before seeing full episodes] because we didn’t really want to pretend that we knew exactly what the show should be because there are so many aspects,” Grush told IndieWire. “So, for us, it was about trying to give proper credit to various genres and ideas, and seeing...

As the temperatures drop, there’s only one thing you can count on to bring the heat: a new season of Single’s Inferno. Season 3 of the Korean dating competition show is officially coming on Dec. 12, and it promises a few new twists and surprises. “What used to be ‘Paradise’ and ‘Inferno’ will change completely,” Yoo Ki Hwan, Netflix’s unscripted lead for Korea, told Tudum earlier this year. “Especially when it comes to ‘Paradise’ — it won’t just be a luxurious resort, but more of a special and intimate place where the couples have a chance to dive deeper into each other’s emotions, elevating the romance.” The production team also noted that there will be new rules, which will be substantially different from Seasons 1 and 2.

X-Men: The Animated Series became a ’90s sensation in part because it so faithfully translated the stories of X-Men comics into Saturday morning cartoon form. That included not only classic storylines such as “Days of Future Past,” “Broodfall,” and more recently “Inferno” on X-Men ’97, but also bringing in even deep cut characters.
At the center of the show was an all-star lineup, mostly consisting of the Blue Squad in the Jim Lee-driven comic series X-Men, with Wolverine, Cyclops, and Beast alongside Gold Squad transplants Jean Grey and Storm. But the real pleasure of the show came not from the good guys, but from the baddies, the many wonderful weirdos that the series brought from the comics into animated form. While that rogues’ gallery includes lesser-known greats like Mojo and fan-faves like the Nasty Boys, these 10 stand out as the best of the worst in the X-Men: The Animated Series universe…...

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
“They shall know my Inferno!” cries the Goblin Queen early in X-Men ’97‘s third episode. Now, the Goblin Queen has had a rough day, which began with her thinking that she was the real Jean Grey and ended with the revelation that she was a clone created by evil (but fashionable) geneticist Mr. Sinister. Her heel turn came so quick that she really didn’t have time to workshop her villain monologues.
Whatever the shortcomings in her baddie banter, the Goblin Queen makes up for it with evil powers. She immediately begins transforming the X-Mansion into a Hellscape, complete with a giant head in an elevator and a vision of Xavier as a monster from the anime classic Akira. Wild as these transformations are, they have nothing on the comic book storyline that inspired it.

The Disney Plus animated series X-Men ‘97 has been receiving positive responses since its release. The revival of the classic show X-Men: The Animated Series was in the headlines earlier this month for parting ways with showrunner Beau DeMayo. The show’s premiere on March 20 reportedly garnered over 4 million views, making it the second most-viewed animated series on the platform.
The third episode of the series is reportedly adapted from the comic Inferno and follows Jean Grey’s clone. Introduced at the end of episode two, the clone is transformed into the Goblin Queen by Mister Sinister and then assumes the identity of Madelyn Pryor. The episode also sees Nathan Summers, the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey make an appearance.

It’s no secret that horror too often elicits kneejerk reactions from narrow-minded critics who, for some reason or another, aren’t willing to give its particular brand of storytelling a fair shake. There are countless examples of films that have received lukewarm to scathing critiques from reviewers upon their release only to be embraced as classics years later, sometimes even by the same writers that originally did them dirty. Last House on the Left (1972), The Shining (1980) and, perhaps most famously, The Thing (1982) were all savaged for various reasons during their initial runs but are now not only thought of as staples of their genre but of cinema as a whole.
This was also the case for Mario Bava’s Blood and Black Lace (1964). Barely making a splash with audiences and critics alike when it was released in Italy 60 years ago this month, the picture’s impact would soon be gargantuan.

The Challenge’s Trishelle Cannatella is fresh off her first-ever win on a reality TV competition show, with a significant victory on The Traitors 2.
She didn’t win alone, as fellow Challenger, five-time champion Chris “Ct” Tamburello also shared in the victory and the $200,000-plus in prize money.
With that, speculation surfaced that the two MTV stars were plotting to win together throughout the season, including them voting the only other remaining Faithful, Mercedes “Mj” Javid, out at the end.
Another rumor that popped up due to Trishelle and Ct’s time on The Traitors 2 involved Trishelle having an affair with her castmate.
Ct appeared on the show following a messy divorce from Lilianet Solares, while Trishelle is currently married.
She recently spoke about those juicy rumors while appearing on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

Planet Hollywood launched with tremendous fanfare in New York City on 22 October, 1991. An instant success, the movie-themed burger joint boasted an array of production made and screen-used memorabilia on display throughout the restaurant. The New York Times headline the following day read, “Fantasy For the Price of a Burger.” Each Planet Hollywood location served as a mini-museum devoted to the movies and the investors behind the venture included a who’s who of 90s stars, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. The genius marketing strategy presented the opportunity to experience movie magic, from the props and costumes that defined audiences’ favourite films, to the thrill of potentially spotting a celebrity in the flesh.

Prime Video’s official trailer for Fallout, based on the wildly popular video game series, opens with a dapper-looking Walton Goggins promoting nuclear fallout shelters known as Vaults. However, Goggins loses his spiffy attire as the trailer continues, transforming into The Ghoul in what’s become a post-apocalyptic hellscape known as the Wasteland.
The trailer also provides an extended look at Lucy, a naïve Vault Dweller who’s shocked to discover people are living outside of the safety of shelters, and Maximus, a member of the Brotherhood of Steel. There’s plenty of action, comedy, and chaos in the trailer, capped off by a wink at the end.
Prime Video hosted a press conference prior to the trailer’s online debut with series stars Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets) and Aaron Moten (Emancipation). They were joined executive producers/showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, executive producer/director Jonathan Nolan, and executive producer...

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, had a blockbuster opening weekend in North American theaters.
Veteran costume designer and five-time Oscar nominee Jacqueline West — whose nominations include Dune and (most recently) Killers of the Flower Moon — talks with The Hollywood Reporter about her work creating 4,000 costumes for Villeneuve‘s latest installment of the film franchise based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel. An art historian by training, West seamlessly weaves together a vast array of art, cultural and fictional references to fashion to create a richly layered futuristic desert world in Dune: Part Two.
The costumes of new characters Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen (Austin Butler) and Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) were among the stand-outs. West says that she was inspired by “the circles of hell in Dante [Alighieri’s] Inferno” and H.R. Giger’s biomechanical-style artwork while crafting the black leather and vinyl gothic looks for Feyd-Rautha. Princess Irulan, adds West,...

Dario Argento Panico takes its title from an old interview where he said he didn’t want to create a sense of fear in viewers, he wanted to go beyond it and leave them in a state of panic. Its form is also taken from its subject’s past, following him as he isolates himself in a hotel to finish his latest script, something he frequently did early in his career.

Is the best part about watching reality TV the derailment of somebody’s character because they weren’t actually the G.O.A.T they assumed they were? Maybe. It is quite unfortunate that one of the most entertaining members of the cast got left behind in season 3 of Single’s Inferno, but at least we know she had fun! For the rest, though, we saw it coming for sure. Although I will admit, it would’ve been nice to see Gwan-Hee stay back in the fiery pit, but alas, this is a show for the masses, and I may not be a parttaker. Single’s Inferno season 3 had four successful couples, which left four singles behind in the Inferno. The couples were mostly anticipated by viewers, except when it came to Gwan-Hee, where there was a little bit of confusion. As someone who is watching this show for the first time,...

I may be the only person who watched all of Single’s Inferno season 3 to be rejoicing that it’s finally ended. For those who love their reality shows, I have so much respect for you. I suppose I understand why it could be an escape, spending those two hours every week with no other thought in mind, just the excitement of who your favorite contestant will choose, or which couple will emerge out of this messy situation, or just a gnarly old fight to lift up your mood. I get it! But it’s just not for me. Or maybe people like Gwan-Hee really put me off of these shows completely. You see, it’s exactly this kind of person that makes a show like Single’s Inferno thrive; however, it leaves me with a sour ick towards the genre altogether. I suppose it’s the aspiration of it all—to look a certain way,...

"I do what I do because I want to be loved!" Shudder has revealed an official US trailer for the documentary film titled Dario Argento Panico (also called just Panico). "Experience the world of Dario Argento like never before." This originally premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival last year in the "Venice Classics" section. It is the first biopic doc ever dedicated to Argento. The film zooms in on titular Italian filmmaker Dario Argento as he finishes writing the script for his last feature in a hotel as a film crew shoots a movie about him. "It is an immersive deep dive into the creative process and life of Argento and features exclusive interviews with the legendary filmmaker and insight from other acclaimed directors like Gaspar Noé, Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn about his impact on the horror genre and generations of other directors." Argento is now 83 years...

Despite being a self-acclaimed reality TV hater, I have come to realize that I go through a rollercoaster of emotions while watching Single’s Inferno, mostly ending on a frustrating note, but does this make it enjoyable? I couldn’t say so, yet I have found myself occasionally smiling at some of the small gestures made by the girls and some banter on the show that’s tolerable. It’s rather obvious that despite the men all being older, except Min-Woo, it’s the women who are the mature lot on the show, which is the reason I’m so frustrated. Not to mention, the judges are seriously old-school and are very obviously partial towards certain contestants, which makes it feel like the whole show is rigged. Additionally, their instigating innocent viewers against cast members is how people get cancelled on the internet. Okay, I’m getting a little bit dramatic here,...

I wouldn’t be lying if I said, “I hate reality TV.” It’s something I absolutely do not gravitate towards. In fact, I’m appalled by the idea altogether, so imagine my plight when I was told I’d be covering Korea’s hottest reality dating show, Single’s Inferno (big emphasis on the “dating” there). I suppose I don’t hate all reality TV; fashion and food contests have a special leeway, and somehow it seems both of these things are very well represented in this show. Maybe not so much fashion, but my first impression of the show, which is already in its 3rd season, was that this is like watching a Mukbang video rather than reality TV, something I actually quite enjoy. No, do not think this means I’ve changed my mind; it just means I don’t want to turn off Netflix within about 5 seconds of starting the show.

Catering directly to my interests, the Criterion Channel’s January lineup boasts two of my favorite things: James Gray and cats. In the former case it’s his first five features (itself a terrible reminder he only released five movies in 20 years); the latter shows felines the respect they deserve, from Kuroneko to The Long Goodbye, Tourneur’s Cat People and Mick Garris’ Sleepwalkers. Meanwhile, Ava Gardner, Bertrand Tavernier, Isabel Sandoval, Ken Russell, Juleen Compton, George Harrison’s HandMade Films, and the Sundance Film Festival get retrospectives.
Restorations of Soviet sci-fi trip Ikarie Xb 1, The Unknown, and The Music of Regret stream, as does the recent Plan 75. January’s Criterion Editions are Inside Llewyn Davis, Farewell Amor, The Incredible Shrinking Man, and (most intriguingly) the long-out-of-print The Man Who Fell to Earth, Blu-rays of which go for hundreds of dollars.

Streaming services are now trying to ration their upcoming original content due to the ongoing actors strike and the only recently-resolved writers’ strike, so we’re going to see a thinning-down of new releases across the board over the next six months at least. Hulu will be adding a lot of library TV shows and movies in November, but there are only a few new major original projects hitting the streamer this month.
Hulu’s spotlight streaming series in November is Black Cake, which is based on the bestselling book by Charmaine Wilkerson. Part family drama, part murder mystery, the show features a globetrotting story that will cover decades of events after a bereaved family find a flash drive that contains some shocking secrets about the hidden history of their late matriarch.
Also dropping on Hulu this month is the original film Quiz Lady, starring Sandra Oh, Awkwafina, Jason Schwartzman,...

Pandemonium was produced by Isabelle Guenezan of Transgressive Production along with executive producer Martine Melloul of Kali Pictures. Film Seekers is handling international sales.

Filmmaker Eli Roth exploded onto the horror scene in 2002 with the ultra-gory, deliberately shocking virus movie "Cabin Fever," a film so goopy and gross, it all but assured Roth a place in the contemporary horror canon of rising filmmakers. His snarky, shock-for-shock's-sake fratboy mentality fit perfectly in with the "extreme" edgelord attitudes of the early '00s. Indeed, some might say that it was Roth's films that helped define the era's impish, adolescent propensity toward provocation. The director certainly cemented his legacy as one of the key figures in the post-9/11 "torture porn" subgenre with his two "Hostel" movies in 2005 and 2007. He pushed his legacy further in 2013 with the release of "The Green Inferno," an homage to extreme 1980s Italian cannibal movies like "Cannibal Holocaust." Roth was a "bad boy."
In 2007, Roth made a jokey trailer for a fake slasher movie called "Thanksgiving," a trailer included in the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double feature "Grindhouse.

Song Jia (Freezia) is a South Korean social media influencer, YouTuber, model, and reality television star who has an impressive fanbase. It’s a typical refrain from moviegoers: which films should I watch next? Fortunately, there are plenty of highly anticipated movies on the way, both in theaters and on streaming services, to keep film fans eating very well in 2023, from blockbuster superhero adventures to spy thrillers to high-concept sci-fi to creepy horrors.
That’s why we’ve put together a list of all the major releases coming this year. There are more than a few films of varying flavors coming in 2023 that should appeal to you: a new Yorgos Lanthimos experiment and a nearly four-hour Martin Scorsese epic about how the West was… poisoned. That, plus plenty of franchise fare, from Aquaman 2 and Wonka to The Marvels and even a new Godzilla flick from Toho! Major horror franchises return in a big way this year too, with Saw X and Exorcist: Believer both slated for the fall.

After the lackluster reception of Inferno, the second entry in his supernaturally inclined Three Mothers trilogy, Dario Argento pivoted back to the giallo genre that he’d helped put on the world-cinema map with the release of The Bird with the Crystal Plumage back in 1970. Not content to merely “return to form,” and plagued by some personal demons of his own, Argento unleashed the supreme meta-giallo Tenebrae, an endlessly reflexive murder mystery about the solving of murder mysteries.
The notion that Tenebrae is primarily concerned with the conditions of its own making is signaled straight away. The first thing we see is a copy of a book also called Tenebrae. A voiceover narrator declaims a passage that describes murder as a liberating, creative act. What’s more, the scene introduces two of the most elemental bits of giallo iconography: the black gloves worn by the killer and a shiny cutthroat razor.
