Some Decisions
tomasmmc-7719814 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is divided in two parts. The first one, the worst without doubt. Sasuke receives the scroll Suigetsu found, and decides to bring some people back, who can give him the answers he wants. But for that, he needs Orochimaru. Suigetsu is stunned and warns him several times, and gives him a lot of reasons for not to do it: the Sannin will take side in the war, destroy Konoha and cause them troubles, nobody wants him back. Besides, he says that he could bring back those persons if he took the time to study. When Sasuke says that only Orochimaru can do this, not to understimate him, Suigetsu tells that the last time he defeated Orochimaru only because he couldn't use his arms. Still, Sasuke is adamant, and Jugo helps him. He takes a piece of serpent from Kabuto, and gives it to Sasuke. They use the curse mark on Anko's neck to bring back Orochimaru. Sasuke uses the same seals Kakashi used to reinforce his curse mark, but in reverse, to unleash it's power. That way, Orochimaru emerges as a white serpent. He tells he knows everything about the war, as he saw it from inside of Anko. His conciousness was present there. He tells Suigetsu he doesn't care about the war, and though he still wants Sasuke's body, he doesn't have the power to take it. He looks at Kabuto, with a serious face. Then, Sasuke hands over the scroll, and asks for his help: he wants him to bring back someone who can answer all his doubts about the village, the shinobis and Konoha. He reassures his desire of vengeance against the village, but he wants to know everything behind the Hidden Leaf actions, to understand Itachi's wish to protect the village. He wants to know how it all started, and then make a decision. Sasuke intends to act by his own will, and not just for revenge. Orochimaru is intrigued, thinking that Itachi manipulated Sasuke in a different way than him and Tobi. However, he accepts to help him, and says they must go a place he knows well: Konoha. Before leaving, Orochimaru goes and takes back all the Sage mode chakra from Kabuto, so all his serpent features disappear. Kabuto is left standing and "sleeping", on his normal human form once again. What happened here was totally out of context. Decide to bring back Orochimaru was unbelievable. Of the three Sannins, only Tsunade was left, and it was perfect that way. So this is incredible. Besides, how is possible that Orochimaru's conciousness was alive inside Anko??? That's ridiculous. The exact moment Orochimaru was consumed by Sasuke, the sky turned red, and Anko, same as Jiraiya, Tsunade, Naruto, Itachi felt it. Anko inadvertently killed a white snake, and it was implied that she felt that the curse mark was turned off for good. Besides, when Itachi sealed Orochimaru with his Susanoo, the person is sealed completely. Now, What was that for??? Itachi's efforts meant nothing, as Sasuke is undoing all what his brother did. And just to remember, Jiraiya is dead, and now Orochimaru, who experimented with children, is alive! Then, Anko is treated like nothing, like a scum bag. She is a character, a shinobi from Konoha. Yamato, who was caught too, was never showed again even though the war stopped. Sasuke's curiosity is not crazy, but here he should have took another path. He can keep acting like a whiny boy and do whatever he wants. Point for Suigetsu. Kishimoto made a stupid move here.

The other part was better, but also had some flaws. The Gedo Mazo transformation begins, so Naruto, Gai, Kakashi, and B try to figure what has happened. The end seems near. Kakashi remembers what Tobi said about the incomplete resurrection, and realizes that the Gedo Mazo is the vessel for the Ten Tails beast. The Hachibi (whose name is Gyuki), tells Kakashi that the vessel already contains a tentacle, and Kurama tells Naruto that the pot and the container had inside part of his chakra. He switches, and for the first time, Kurama talks to the others through Naruto: he explains the story about Kinkaku and Ginkaku (I wonder how two persons can survive inside the stomach of a mammal like a Fox, considering the acids and fluids). Kakashi remembers the report saying that Tobi stealed those pieces from Darui's division, and then Kurama tells that as they are still there, it's unclear how it's going to be the resurrected Juubi. Kakashi prepares to try something, so Tobi tells that he talks too much, for having a life full of regrets. Gai asks who he is, and the Uchiha answers that he can't remember faces anyway, there's no point in telling him. Kurama asks Kakashi to do whatever he intends to, they have to take the chance before the Juubi appears, as the Rikudo Sennin said that in the Ten tails beast would mean the end of the world. Then, the Fox explains Naruto that the Juubi is the set of all the Bijuus, the beginning of the chakra, a "god" able to swallow oceans, slice the earth, carry mountains. He is a combination of the Nine beasts, and not even he has a chance against him. Still, if contains only a part of the Hachibi and the Kyuubi, they won't know until they try. But Tobi reassures that they don't understand. He doesn't need the complete Juubi to achieve his goal. He only needs him to perform the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and put everyone to sleep inside a genjutsu, to make a world without war, hatred, death, and individualism, all based on a single conciousness. A world without heros, hope, or future, a permanent dream to end the reality. Naruto switches back with Kurama, and tells that he had his father, mother, and Ero sennin. Every child has a hero, that's why he could keep going. He will become the best Hokage ever, that's his dream. Gai and Kakashi tell that at some point people is able to stop dreaming, and their dreams come true. B tells his dream about a woman, so Gyuki disapproves him. Then, Obito answers that individualism makes people blind to the truth. Instead, his words, the words of nobody, will guide the world to the truth. The episode ends showing Naruto charging at the Gedo Mazo statue. Like I said before, the shortcut with Kinkaku and Ginkaku was unnecesary for the story. This is what allows the Juubi's resurrection, and if the monster is as Kurama tells, then any of them has a chance. And so, why all the surviving shinobis are running towards there? They are running to their death, most of them. I insist, Kishimoto commited a big mistake here. Those persons have no chance against a Monster with ten tails. Anyway, I liked Kurama's serious but not hopeless diagnosis. The Fox has become the most reasonable being of all the heros, along the Hachibi. And this is given the speeches. Naruto started well, saying how his parents and Jiraiya inspired him to follow. But he ruined everything by telling and imposing his dream to become the best Hokage of all times. Tobi really nailed by saying the word individualism. If Naruto wants to become Hokage is fine, his father said the same. Kushina said that too, but she recognized that she was misplaced. And here, when Naruto says he wants to surpass everyone, he is being too ambitious, ill-considered, arrogant, individualistic. He forgot all the lessons Itachi taught him, the life model Jiraiya showed to him, and the words of Kushina (and so Minato, who knew that she could teach things in a way he couldn't). Don't forget about the people, they recognize you as Hokage, not yourself. And if Naruto thinks that surpassing the other Hokages is more important than what Kushina taught him, he is failing. He didn't learn. Then, Gai, Kakashi and B also spoke with individualism. Their speech was poor written. They should have talked like Onoki, who told Madara that the world could be peaceful and without war, if they, all the shinobi cooperated together to form an Alliance. At the end, the one who said what had to be said was the Tsuchikage. As for Tobi, he may be imposing his vision to everyone with his plan, but he doesn't call himself someone. From that point of view, he is the opposite to Madara, who considers himself a god. Obito is not presuming or showing off his power, his name, himself. I admit, he is a different kind of villain.
