- King Horik's vindictive arrogance costs the Vikings their worst-yet defeat against allied kings Ecbert and Aella's troops, marshaled according to Caesar's genius as Athelstan taught Ecbert. Only Ragnar isn't surprised when Ecbert, instead of pursuing them for slaughter, knowing that can only call for another revenge raid, offers an honorable peace in exchange for permission for Vikings to volunteer, as many do, as mercenaries for an army to help make princess Kwentrith Ecbert's satellite ruler of civil war-torn Mercia. This time, Athelstan chooses to follow his heart and return with Ragnar to Kattegat, where princess Aslaug emancipates Bjorn's beloved Porunn to become a worthier bride for the earl's now famous 'Ironside' heir.—KGF Vissers
- Ragnar learns that King Horit ordered his son to ambush King Ecbert's son and now they need to fight. He wants to wait and observe, but Horit commands the attack and they are defeated. Rollo is seriously wounded but the survivors need to flee to their camp. Athelstan recognizes Rollo and saves his life, bringing him to Wessex. King Ecbert arranges a meeting with Ragnar and offers a treasure and land for them, and returns the injured Rollo to his friends. He also employs volunteer mercenaries to attack Mercia. Althelstan decides to return with Ragnar while Floki is close to King Horit looking for recognition for his work. Meanwhile Auslag releases Porunn that becomes a free woman.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
