It was back in 2014 that we first caught sight of director Andrew Desmond. The occassion at the time was the trailer for his fantastic scifi short film Entity - which you can see here - and we knew right away that Desmond was a director of prodigious visual talent. Jump forward a couple years and Desmond turned up in the co-production market world pitching his would-be debut feature The Sonata, a supernatural thriller revolving around a young classical music prodigy. And it's not just a would-be debut any more ... The Sonata is now in production and we're very happy to share the first images from the shoot! Freya Tingley, Simon Akbarian, James Faulkner and Rutger Hauer star and clearly Desmond has lost none...

It was back in March of 2014 that we first caught wind of Andrew Desmond's scifi short film Entity, a picture that was just out on its festival run at the time and winning raves wherever it went. Well, that fest run went on a long, long time and netted Desmond a good fistful of awards in the process, and with things all wrapped up in the festival world they are now making the short available for free online for one week only.Minutes after a technical failure of her spacecraft, an astronaut finds herself ejected from her cockpit and into space. She tries to contact the base to obtain help... But in vain.Check it out below!...

Exclusive: Ctb, A-One Films, former K5 exec launch company at Efm; among first titles is next project from Target [pictured] writer-director Alexander Zeldovich.
Daniel Goroshko, Sergey Selyanov, Rodolphe Sanzé and Laurent Fumeron have joined forces to launch new European co-production outlet The Project.
The company launches at the Efm in Berlin where the founders will be discussing projects with potential production partners and backers.
The collective, which will develop projects in house initially but will also look to partner on third-party-developed projects with commercial potential, has its eye on opening additional European offices at a later date.
Among the first titles on the slate are Target writer-director Alexander Zeldovich’s next project Sweet Life and Andrew Desmond’s (Entity) The Sonata.
Ctb CEO Selyanov (Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan) and producer-distributor Goroshko, founder of Russian distributor A-One Films, will operate out of Russia while former K5 and Imagina sales exec Sanzé and producer Fumeron will spearhead a Paris...

Just beginning what will surely be a long and successful festival run, Andrew Desmond's Entity is one seriously ambitious - and from the looks of the trailer, seriously gorgeous - scifi short. Alias Hilsum plays an astronaut ejected into space when her craft fails and what she finds ... well, the trailer doesn't tell you what, but there's definitely something. Check it out below....
