A year and a half ago, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. Now we know when we’re going to have a chance to see this movie, as Variety has confirmed that veteran producer Bob Yari’s new company Magenta Light Studios has secured the U.S. distribution rights to the film and they’re planning to give it a wide theatrical release on August 23rd.
Plot details on this thriller are being kept under wraps, and Variety notes that reviews from audience members who saw the movie at Fantastic Fest last year ” hint that the film works best with as little information as possible going in.” Apparently it has something...

Premiering at the genre event Fantastic Fest in 2023, the Miramax-produced thriller has been universally praised (it currently sits at 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with 14 reviews) for its inventive narrative structure and lead performances. Magenta Light has set an August 23 wide release.

Earlier this week, we heard that Francis Lawrence, whose previous credits include Constantine, I Am Legend, Water for Elephants, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Parts 1 and 2, Red Sparrow, Slumberland, and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, is the latest director to be attached to helm an adaptation of The Long Walk, a Stephen King novel that was published under the Richard Bachman pen name back in 1979. Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that The Long Walk is set up at Lionsgate, with Lawrence in “final talks” to direct. So this will be a continuation of the working relationship Lionsgate and Lawrence have had on the Hunger Game films.
Joe Drake of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group provided the following statement: “When you have enjoyed the strong creative collaboration and success that we have had working with Francis, you want to repeat that experience as much as possible.

The rights to Stephen King’s 1979 novel, The Long Walk, have been acquired by Lionsgate, and according to new reports, the project is set to be adapted into a film directed by Francis Lawrence.
Previously, a movie based on The Long Walk was in development by New Line Cinema with André Øvredal attached to direct, but after the rights lapsed in the summer of 2022, work on the project was abandoned. Now, Lionsgate has picked up the dystopian story, and will bring it to life, with Lawrence directing and producing a script by Jt Mollner (Outlaws and Angels). Roy Lee (2017’s It) will produce as well.
Lawrence is fresh on the heels of his latest release: the latest Hunger Games film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which debuted earlier this month and has grossed north of $200 million so far. In a statement, Joe Drake, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group,...

The Long Walk has new spring in its step as Lionsgate is now behind a big-screen adaptation of the Stephen King book.
Lionsgate has picked up the rights to the 1979 dystopian novel, with Francis Lawrence in final talks to direct. Jt Mollner will pen the script. The move puts Lawrence back in business with Lionsgate, for whom he directed The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which is currently in theaters and has grossed more than $200 million globally.
Roy Lee is producing Long Walk with Lawrence.
New Line was previously developing the project with director André Øvredal and a script from James Vanderbilt before the rights lapsed in the summer of 2022. Now Lionsgate will begin anew with its own take.

After a brief prologue that promises – both via text and voiceover – a dramatization of the true story of the final killings of the most unique American serial killer of the 21st century, we are treated to a mesmerizing opening titles sequence set to a rendition of "Love Hurts," featuring a woman (Willa Fitzgerald) running through the woods in red scrubs. The next chapter introduces us to the man chasing her – flannel clad, aviators wearing, moustache rocking Kyle Gallner, whose character is referred to in the credits as The Demon. Strange Darling is the second feature by the writer/ director Jt Mollner, following Outlaws and Angels (2016), a revisionist take on western. It stands to reason to suggest that Strange Darling somewhat plays...

There’s a scene in Jt Mollner’s Strange Darling where Ed Begley Jr. makes breakfast. He chars sausages, unsheathes and melts a stick of yellow butter, then cracks a messload of eggs and leaves them to bubble while pouring out thick globs of pancake batter in a second pan. He layers the cakes with the eggs and encased pork meat and yet more butter before drowning the whole thing in whipped cream that promptly starts to liquefy. He places the mess in front of his wife (Barbara Hershey), who comically offsets the caloric mound by placing a single, wimpy red strawberry on top. This scene is almost certainly unintentionally illustrative of Moller’s approach to his sophomore feature: a twisty cat and mouse thriller so overstuffed with delicious elements that it’s constantly on the verge of becoming too much of a good thing.

The open road is a terrifying place for a young woman in the first look at “Strange Darling,” a horror-thriller from director J.T. Mollner set to premiere at this week’s Fantastic Fest.
Described as “one day in the twisted love life of a serial killer,” the project stars Willa Fitzgerald (Amazon’s “Reacher”) and Kyle Gallner. Fitzgerald, known only in the film as “The Lady,” barrels down a highway in a red Ford Pinto in a clip exclusive to Variety, escaping Gallner’s mad pursuit. After shooting out her back windshield and trying to mow her down with a pickup truck, the cat-and-mouse game moves on foot through the wilderness.
“This film was a sort of dream (or nightmare) that I was compelled to bring to life. So much about it – the colors, the music, the overall visual aesthetic, and the characters were all so clear before we even shot anything.

With his signature one-liner — “It’s good to be here, it’s good to be anywhere” — Keith Richards emerged onstage at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday night to sing with Willie Nelson at the second of the country legend’s two 90th birthday concerts. Together onstage, Richards, 79, and Nelson, 90 plus a day, made their case as the ultimate survivors. They sang about it, too, capping a two-song performance with Billy Joe Shaver’s eternal “Live Forever.”
But first, they revisited “We Had It All,” which they performed back in 2004 at the Wiltern in L.

The children of two Hollywood icons are set to collide in the cat-and-mouse thriller Clawfoot, which is coming to us from director Michael Day, screenwriter April Wolfe, and Yale Entertainment, the company behind the awesome Becky. Francesca Eastwood (Awake), a daughter of Clint Eastwood, and Milo Gibson (Hacksaw Ridge), a son of Mel Gibson, star in the film, which is currently filming in Los Angeles.
Clawfoot sees Francesca Eastwood taking on the role of
an upper-class suburban housewife who is psychologically terrorized by a manipulative contractor, leading to a twisted battle of wits with deliciously unexpected results.
Milo Gibson is playing the manipulative contractor.
Clawfoot marks the feature directorial debut of Day, who previously directed multiple short films and episodes of the shows The News Tank and Sisters. This is the second feature written by Wolfe, as she previously co-wrote the poorly received 2019 version of Black Christmas.

Kevin Costner’s western epic is about to start production and Luke Wilson is the latest actor to saddle up. Deadline has reported that Wilson has joined the cast of Horizon alongside Kevin Costner, Sam Worthington, Sienna Miller, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
Related Best Man: Dolph Lundgren, Luke Wilson, and Scout Taylor-Compton to star in new action film
Kevin Costner’s Horizon will chronicle a “multi-faceted, 15-year span of pre- and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. Experienced through the eyes of many, the epic journey is fraught with peril and intrigue from the constant onslaught of natural elements to the interactions with the Indigenous peoples who lived on the land and the determination and at many times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it.” In addition to directing Horizon, Kevin Costner also co-wrote the script with Jon Baird, and will be producing, financing, and starring in the project as well.

It’s been over half a century since gun-slinging, hi-de-ho westerns dominated the box office, when names like John Wayne, Roy Rogers and Clint Eastwood rolled off the tongue. In 2018, tumbleweeds slowly crawling across a deserted street are few and far between. Don’t get it twisted, though, westerns are no where near extinct. Some of your favorite stars have been recently seen polishing their revolvers in hot pursuit of money, power and revenge, including in this weekend’s “Ballad of Buster Scuggs” and next month’s “The Sisters Brothers.”

M.F.A. touches a very sensitive subject. And the timing of the release comes at a time where rape and sexual assualt is now making the headlines in Hollywood more than ever. It’s a subject that needs to be talked about more and an act that should never have to be committed against anyone. To any victims out there, we sympathize with you. This film is a film that fantasizes on the consequences of those horrific actions. Aside from that, a star is born in the process.

Filled with tension building music, meandering along the long dark corridors of the basement of the bank, in which holds the big money lays a spooky and sinister secret, laden with the chilling laughter of children and an equally chilling shadowy figure the desperate ladies of the heist just might not get out of this one alive.
The Vault stars Francesca Eastwood (Outlaws and Angels), Taryn Manning (Orange is the New Black, 8 Mile, Hustle & Flow), Scott Haze (Granite Mountain,...

As scary as a cabin in the woods can be, one of the most disturbing backdrops for a film can be the college culture, where horrors that are all too real sometimes take place. Such is the case in Natalie Leite’s M.F.A., which made its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival (read Heather's review here) and has now been acquired for Us distribution by Dark Sky Films.
Press Release: New York, NY (June 8, 2017) - Mpi Media Group announced today that it has acquired all rights in the U.S. to M.F.A., a critically acclaimed powerful thriller starring Francesca Eastwood in a stand out role. The film, from female director and female screenwriter, takes on the searing current issue of sexual violence on campus. M.F.A will be released domestically this fall under the company's Dark Sky Films banner.

Francesca Eastwood has signed with Brillstein Entertainment Partners for management. She’ll next be seen in a starring role in Angie Wang's Cardinal X, which premieres next month, and the Dan Bush thriller The Vault opposite James Franco and Taryn Manning, which will be released…...

Even amongst the creative weirdos in her visual arts M.F.A. program, Noelle (Francesca Eastwood) doesn’t quite fit in. She’s a little too restrained, a little too quiet, and her work could benefit from a serious injection of fresh blood — and all that changes when she’s the victim of a terrible act of violence. On the heels of Isabelle Huppert’s lauded turn in Paul Verhoeven’s similarly themed “Elle,” Natalia Leite’s “M.F.A.” is another entry in the rape-revenge genre, with Eastwood’s daring performance emerging as the most compelling element.
“Get messy! Fail! Fail miserably! Make something ugly!” Humiliating Noelle in front of her steely-eyed classmates, her professor (Marlon Young) admonishes the young artist after yet another poor showing. Despite a talent for drawing and painting, Noelle just can’t seem to tap into a creative well, and both her work and her personal energies are suffering because of it.

Mid-summer brings the biggest limited opening of 2016, with a return to form by Woody Allen as new distributor Amazon Studios and partner Lionsgate pushed “Café Society” to numbers unseen since last December. It’s not at Allen’s top level, but a huge leap above his last two films as well as anything else so far this year.
For a totally different market, Dinesh D’Souza doc “Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party” had a limited opening in Middle America with strong front-loaded initial numbers. The political doc goes wider this Friday and could see a better eventual total —via an entirely different audience—than Allen’s film.
“Hunt for the Wilderpeople” (The Orchard) from New Zealand leads the films in wider release as it continues to build word-of-mouth success. “Captain Fantastic” (Bleecker Street) boasted a decent second weekend expansion and could end up at a...

New Mexico in the late 19th century, as shown in Jt Mollner’s “Outlaws and Angels,” is a land where zealotry and hypocrisy go hand and hand, where Thomas Hobbes’ “nasty, brutish and short” characterization of human nature guides every interpersonal relationship. While that may not be an inaccurate characterization of what small-town life was like in the American Southwest during the Cleveland administration, “Outlaws and Angels” overestimates its own elegance, delivering a misguided ode to frontier ugliness.
Fittingly, “Outlaws and Angels” opens with a bloodbath, a bank heist gone wrong that leaves a Us Marshall dead. The gang responsible for the crime, armed by ringleader Henry (Chad Michael Murray) and laden with the fruits of their labor, quickly seek refuge from their newly-earned bounty. Starving and with no means of transportation across the Mexican border, the group happens on an unassuming farmhouse, home to the local preacher George Tildon...

Like a heavy Southern drawl that lazily meanders through conversation, Outlaws And Angels drags its scenes far longer than contextually necessary. Imagine a Southerner leaking “Hooowwwwdddyyy folkssssss!” like a deflating balloon instead of clear, concise dictation (“Howdy!” and done). Characters just glare at the screen as director Jt Mollner has a field-day with zoom ins and outs that turn his dried-out, rawhide script into a crackly piece of fragile leather. Overindulgence mars this grim, rough-and-tumble Western splatterfest, which is comparable to a more interesting (but still tiresome) take take on Jane Got A Gun (with a darker, strangely jovial mean streak). Death certainly was a byproduct of the Old West, but could people really be so terse about it all?
Mollner’s tale of frontier justice follows three robbers who interrupt a family’s dinner and demand safe haven for the night. Led by a ruthless drifter named Henry (Chad Michael Murray...

“Outlaws and Angels” follows Henry (Chad Michael Murray), a seasoned outlaw who leads a gang of bandits into a high stakes bank heist set to make them all rich and give them a chance at a new life across the Mexican border. Unfortunately, the plan goes awry and they end up killing a U.S. Marshall. With a large bounty on their heads, Henry and the gang head south through dangerous territory. When all hope seems lost, the crew stumble upon the frontier home of George Tilden (Ben Browder), who lives there with his wife Ada (Teri Polo), and two daughters Charlotte (Madisen Beaty) and Florence (Francesca Eastwood). They invade the home and terrorize the family, but eventually unlikely bonds form and Henry is given one last shot at redemption. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below when Henry and the bandits learn that there’s a bounty on their heads.

Almost everything about Outlaws and Angels is confident. The actors are confident in their roles, the script is confident in its ability to shock, and the practical effects work on screen (a lot of fake blood) is confident in its ability to spray and look good while doing so.
Outlaws and Angels follows three outlaws who come across a family’s secluded settlement, and the majority of the film takes place in the family’s house as the outlaws, and the family attempt to get along. As mentioned the actors, script, and effects feel very confident in themselves. The actors are playing stock types of characters, but Outlaws and Angels is a bloody, nasty little movie, so the actors get to make the types their own. Francesca Eastwood (Yes, she’s the daughter of Clint) creates a perfectly unsubtle performance as Florence. As the story continues...

"Sounds to me like he done bamboozled you." eOne and Momentum have released this official Us trailer for the indie western Outlaws and Angels, which first premiered at Sundance earlier this year. From director Jt Mollner, the film is about a group of outlaws who try to seek revenge when a gang of criminals attack a local family. The full cast includes Chad Michael Murray, Francesca Eastwood, Madisen Beaty, Ben Browder, Frances Fisher, Keith Loneker, Luke Wilson and Teri Polo. This actually looks more like something Tarantino would appreciate than a full-on western, with a big twist revealed in the trailer. Enjoy. Here's the official Us trailer for Jt Mollner's Outlaws and Angels, in high def from Apple: When Outlaws on the lam invade the home of an unsuspecting, seemingly innocent, frontier family to hide out for the night, an unexpected game of cat and mouse ensues, leading to seduction,...

The first trailer has been released for a western called Outlaws and Angels. It's always exciting to see a new western get released, and this is one that I heard some great things about. It premiered at Sundance earlier this year, which is where I was hearing the buzz for it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see it, but my chance is coming this summer!
If I hadn't already heard such great things about this movie, I'd probably pass on it because this trailer doesn't do a very good job selling the movie. It's a poorly edited trailer that has a cheap feel to it. Don't let that turn you off, though, because I've been told that it's worth checking out.

Vmi Worldwide president Relis served as executive producer and has scheduled a February 13 market screening in Berlin at CinemaxX Studio 17.

Three bank robbers walk into a dysfunctional home on the prairie in Jt Mollner‘s cold-blooded Outlaws and Angels, filmed and premiering at Sundance in glorious 35mm. The premise naturally evokes Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, particularly when it comes to the outlaws, however light their presence may be. Amongst the three groups — the outlaws, the Tildon family and the law — angels, too, are largely missing in the film.
Opening on a small farm estate we are briefly introduced to the Tildon clan: patriarch George (Ben Browder) is a tough recovering alcoholic who attempts to get right with the Lord, even if his daughters Flo (Francesca Eastwood) and Charlotte (Madisen Beaty) aren’t buying it. Short on life outside of the homestead (they’re told most of the eligible bachelors in town have taken ill) they remain the ward of George until they are liberated by a band of outlaws.

Exclusive: There’s no way to understate this clip from the Sundance Western-suspense-domestic horror pic Outlaws And Angels: It’s almost two minutes of concentrated menace that even without context had me glancing for the nearest exit by the time it was over. Don’t take my word for it though, watch the exclusive clip above. Written and directed by J.T. Mollner, the story depicts what happens when bank robbers on the run pull a home invasion on an unsuspecting frontier…...

The Sundance Film institute has released the line-up of film for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Going to Sundance is one of my favorite events of the year. I love going because you never know what kind of movies you're going to see. Sometimes they are great films that amaze and entertain, other times they completely suck ass, but that's all part of the fun of going to the festival. It's an awesome experience for any hardcore movie geek, and if you ever get a chance to go, you need to.
The event takes place in Park City, Utah next year from January 21st to the 31st. It looks like there's a great line-up of movies at next year's event. My favorite portion of the event is the Midnight section because it deals more with geeky genre type movies, but I also enjoy the various sections of other line-ups.

As we near the end of the calendar year, there is still plenty to look forward to in cinema – and not just the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December. Yes, as we barrel down on the industry’s undisputed purple patch, our local theaters will soon become brimming with awards contenders each out to stake a claim for that coveted Oscar trophy.
Much like previous years, the Academy’s presentation will take place in February, and it’ll be preceded by the Sundance Film Festival one month prior. Returning for its 32nd year on the festival circuit, the Midnight selection has been formally revealed, confirming such entires as Rob Zombie’s horror 31 along with the Kevin Smith-directed college flick, Yoga Hosers.
Blending irreverent comedies with impassioned horror films, the Midnight slate of Sundance 2016 is once again jam-packed with notable release, and let’s not forget...
