Less than a year after announcing dual leadership at the production and distribution venture WonderHill Studios, veteran producers Bob Yari and Marvin Peart are parting ways.
The pair will disband as co-CEOs of the company, though Yari will remain an investor. The split is amicable, individuals familiar with the company said, and the men feel more comfortable moving forward with their own distinct visions. Peart will stay on as WonderHill CEO and oversee day-to-day operations moving forward.
Yari has formed a new production and releasing engine called Magenta Light Studios. His goal is to release three to five films per year in theaters. Both companies are presently active in the acquisitions space, a market perpetually in need of independent players that can compete with streaming giants and legacy studios.

Jessica Fisher: Hi, I’m Jessica Fisher from GeekTyrant, and I just have to say that twelve year old me is beside herself right now. I’m a big fan from way back., especially Now and Then.
Devon Sawa: Thank you so much. And you know what? That’s exactly how twelve year old me felt filming this movie with Sylvester Stallone. Not that I’m anything like Stallone. What I’m trying to say is thank you.
Jf: Of course! Do you still get a lot of women approach you who were young fans of yours.

"I can't remember a time when I wasn't driven by rage." Vertical Entertainment has debuted a trailer for an action thriller titled Daughter of the Wolf, a new film made by production designer / filmmaker David Hackl (director of Saw V and Life on the Line). The film stars Gina Carano, who we haven't seen much of in cinema recently, but she's back as a badass in another action roll. Carano plays Clair Hamilton, a "military specialist" who returns home to claim her inheritance only to find that her son has been kidnapped. She must hunt down the mysterious leader of the gang holding him for ransom. Simple as that. The film's full cast includes Richard Dreyfuss, Brendan Fehr, Sydelle Noel, Brock Morgan, and Stew McLean. This looks as bland and derivative as they come, but it still somehow might entice a few interested viewers. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster...

John Travolta’s comeback in the 1990s is one of the more famous in American stardom. In the 1970s, Travolta became one of the biggest draws around thanks to “Grease” and “Saturday Night Fever,” but spent much of the 1980s in a series of disappointments, culminating in the “Look Who’s Talking” franchise. But then, Quentin Tarantino came knocking with “Pulp Fiction,” and Travolta became an even bigger star than before, with a run of terrific movies including “Get Shorty,” “Face/Off,” “The Thin Red Line” and “Primary Colors.”
If that was a peak, recent years have been something of a trough: Travolta’s recent films have mostly, like similar actors of his vintage, been cheap VOD jobs with titles you’ve not heard of like “The Forger,” “Life On The Line,” “Criminal Activities” and “I Am Wrath” (with Ti West’s underrated, underseen “In A Valley Of Violence” a...

Looking good, Sharon Stone!
The 58-year-old actress had heads turning on Wednesday, when she stepped out for dinner in Beverly Hills, California, rocking a leopard-print top, a matching headband, and a knee-length leather skirt. Stone completed the outfit with a sexy pair of black ankle-strap heels.
But the best part of her ensemble had to be her megawatt smile.

This isn't the first time Stone has proved she's ageless. The Basic Instinct star looked fabulous in October, when she sported a string bikini and short shorts on the beach.
In July, Stone talked about rejecting stereotypes revolving around women getting older.
"I don't think we have to accept the assignment of aging, that all of a sudden you're supposed to be dowdy, with a really bad hairdo and wear Easter candy-colored clothes," Stone told Aarp magazine.

Striving to always embrace the underlying positive attributes in every aspect of life, no matter how difficult the circumstances appear to be, is an admirable trait that not all people possess. But the linemen who risk their lives by working on the electrical lines during even the most dangerous storms are one such group of people who deserve more praise by the public. The workers are finally receiving their much deserved recognition in the new action drama, ‘Life on the Line,’ which was released this weekend in select theaters and On Demand by Lionsgate Premiere. ‘Life on the Line’ follows a group of hard-working Texas linemen led by Beau Ginner [ Read More ]

John Travolta used to be an A-list actor with an ongoing string of hits, but he hasn’t headlined a major Hollywood production since 2010 action film From Paris with Love barely broke even at the domestic box office. Ever since, Travolta has received steady work from lower-profile outings that typically receive limited, if any, theatrical release before debuting on video-on-demand. Already this year, the Oscar-nominated star of classics like Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction has appeared in action thriller I Am Wrath and Western In a Valley of Violence, alongside Ethan Hawke. Now, he leads his third 2016 release with Life on the Line.

On a broad scale, the producers of mostly VOD releases like Life On The Line don’t have much to answer for, because their movies don’t often add up to much beyond a way for aging and/or cash-strapped movie stars to extend their leading-man (or lady, but usually man) years a little longer. But these indulgences, while essentially harmless, do their part to chip away at better movies. An older star like John Travolta (or Bruce Willis, or Wesley Snipes, or any number of others) should be well into the character actor portion of his career about now, and Travolta briefly seemed to be heading in that direction back in 2012 when he took a supporting role in Oliver Stone’s Savages. It hasn’t really taken, in part because he’s been lured into a series of thrillers seemingly designed to simulate his glory years from inside ...

John Travolta has had some extreme ups-and-downs in his career, with at least three or four comebacks to his name. While certainly not a bad actor, he is sometimes (read: often) bad at choosing projects. Let's just hope his new drama Life On The Line about "a Texas lineman, and his crew, who risk their lives to keep the electrical grid running during a deadly storm" can... Read More...

Statistically, it’s more dangerous being a binman but that doesn’t stop our luxuriantly bearded hero delivering one of his most electric performances
Jimmy Webb’s Wichita Lineman is one of the greatest songs ever written. Spare and sparse and loaded with longing, to quote Billy Joel, it’s a simple song about an ordinary man having extraordinary thoughts. And now there’s a film of it. Sort of.
Life on the Line is a film about linemen. If that isn’t enough to whet your appetite, it’s a film about linemen that’s directed by the man who made Saw V. Still not enough? It’s a film about linemen that’s directed by the man who made Saw V and stars John Travolta. Now you’re interested. Here’s the trailer breakdown.

The current career of John Travolta is a bit hard to pin down. For every “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” and “In A Valley Of Violence” (opening this fall), there’s something like “Life On The Line.” One can’t blame the actor entirely, as folks like Kate Bosworth and Sharon Stone also signed up, but it’s a bit of a mystery what on the page made “Saw V” David Hackl‘s movie so compelling.

Here's the trailer for Life on the Line, a new movie about a group of power line workers who must step up to the challenge of repairing the grid during a horrible storm with lives hanging in the balance. The premise isn't terrible, but this trailer...well, you've sort of gotta see this thing to believe it. John Travolta stars as a line worker who must raise his orphaned niece (Kate Bosworth), and he doesn't get along with her hot-headed boyfriend/baby daddy, who also works the power lines for the same company (Devon Sawa). I'm not sure if this is just a poorly cut trailer or what, but this looks pretty rough to me. Either way, Travolta's Texas accent is certainly something to behold.
Despite the trailer's claim that Life on the Line is in theaters on September 1, it does not yet have a U.S. release date.

John Travolta is fixing power lines in a storm. Here's the trailer for Life On The Line...
Sporting fine facial hair and an admirable helmet, John Travolta has a new film incoming, in the shape of Life On The Line. This one’s a mix of thriller and drama, centred on the lives of power line workers. In this case, power line workers on the day of a heavy storm. That’s going to go well, right?
Travolta stars in this one with Kate Bosworth, Sharon Stone and Devon Sawa, and we’ve got a trailer and a synopsis for the movie. We don’t have a UK release date (this video says 1st September, but that’s in America, in limited release), but hey, you can’t have everything, right?
Let’s do them in turn, then. Here’s the trailer…

John Travolta is fantastic in The People v. O.J. Simpson. In season one of FX’s new American Crime series, he’s hilarious as the insecure and loud Robert Shapiro. It’s a big, committed performance, and arguably his best work in years. Earlier this year, we also saw the actor in the action movie I Am Wrath, which didn’t seem to generate […]

"Any little distraction will kill you." Voltage Pictures has debuted another new trailer for the movie Life on the Line, an action-thriller about the risky lives of power line workers. The film stars John Travolta and Devon Sawa as two line workers who end up working during a massive storm that nearly destroys their lives. The cast includes Kate Bosworth, Sharon Stone, Gil Bellows, Julie Benz and Ryan Robbins. We featured a trailer for this earlier in the year, as it looks unlike anything else being released nowadays. It seems obliviously cheesy, but also almost like a throwback to 90's action movies. Tavolta looks pretty wild, though I'm not sure if this will be any good. The release date listed in the trailer is for Singapore, not the Us. Here's the newest trailer (+ a poster) for David Hackl's Life on the Line, direct from YouTube: Life on the Line...

Voltage Pictures has premiered a new trailer for high-wire thriller Life on the Line, starring John Travolta as a blue-collar worker risking life and limb to restore downed power lines across the country.
Described as one the most dangerous occupations out there, the subject matter wouldn’t look out of place in a straight-to-tv documentary, though director David Hackl has moulded a story around the employment regardless. It’s a dated one, too, with Travolta on board to play Beau, a grizzled veteran who reluctantly takes newcomer Devon Sawa under his wing.
In his time dealing with power outages and unforgiving storms, Beau has witnessed his fair share of tragedies. Plus, the fact that he acts as a surrogate father to Kate Bosworth’s character, a potential love interest to Sawa’s maverick, evokes a romantic subplot not dissimilar to Michael Bay’s Armageddon – only with decidedly less Aerosmith. Sharon Stone,...

"I do have a job, momma, I told you I'm a line man now." Voltage Pictures has released a new trailer for the film called Life on the Line, about the dangerous and challenging lives of power line workers. Yeah, seriously. The film stars John Travolta and Devon Sawa as two line workers who end up working during a massive storm that nearly destroys their lives. The cast includes Kate Bosworth, Sharon Stone, Gil Bellows, Julie Benz and Ryan Robbins. This almost looks like one of those action movies from the 90s that we don't see anymore, all about hard working people who just want to keep everyone safe and do their jobs. Not sure if this will find any audience at all, but give it a watch anyway. "We gotta get the power on!" Here's the first official trailer for David Hackl's Life on the Line, direct from...

There are plenty of films about a variety of dangerous career paths. Firefighters, police officers, paramedics, that one where Ashton Kutcher is a Coast Guard, all branches of the military, construction crews, vigilante superheroes, lifeguards, pilots and conductors, detectives and inspectors, astronauts — they’ve all had their due. But one sector of selfless, high-impact human service has largely been ignored by the film industry: linemen. It doesn’t matter what kind, be it those who lay railroad tracks or those who install and repair electrical, telephone or telegraph wires. They’ve gotten the short end of the stick. With the last film to commemorate their work premiering in 1937 (Slim the Lineman, which starred Henry Fonda), it’s now up to John Travolta and a merry band of brethren that includes Kate Bosworth and Devon Sawa to right this wrongs with Life On The Line. The indie drama, directed by David Hackl (Grizzly) and written by the team...
