A year and a half ago, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. Now we know when we’re going to have a chance to see this movie, as Variety has confirmed that veteran producer Bob Yari’s new company Magenta Light Studios has secured the U.S. distribution rights to the film and they’re planning to give it a wide theatrical release on August 23rd.
Plot details on this thriller are being kept under wraps, and Variety notes that reviews from audience members who saw the movie at Fantastic Fest last year ” hint that the film works best with as little information as possible going in.” Apparently it has something...

We’ve seen a couple casting announcements for writer/director Parker Finn’s sequel to his 2022 horror film Smile (read our review Here, watch the movie Here), which is aiming for an October 18, 2024 theatrical release date. Last month, it was announced that Naomi Scott of Aladdin and Charlie’s Angels has been cast in Smile 2, and yesterday we learned that Lukas Gage of The White Lotus and You is in the cast as well… and when seeing those announcements, I could only wonder, “Where is Kyle Gallner?” A genre regular, Gallner had a role in Smile, and his character made it through the whole movie. So why wasn’t his presence in Smile 2 being confirmed? Well, thankfully, now it has. The Wrap reports that Gallner will be reprising the role of police detective Joel in the film. Also joining the cast is Rosemarie DeWitt, whose previous credits include La La Land...

Wellmania is a series created by Benjamin Law, starring Celeste Barber. It is based on a novel by Brigid Delaney.
Wellmania is a fun Australian comedy about health based on the novel by Brigid Delaney in which health is the most important thing, but seen through the eyes of a girl who has not thought about her health once in her life and who, upon discovering this new world, is like some of us when we see a bicycle and ask ourselves: and what’s this supposed to do?
Wellmania About the Series
A nice comedy in the Australian style, starring a great Celeste Barber who is given one of those “roles of her life” and who knows how to take advantage of it with wit and style.

The Crites are back at Fantasia 2019 with the world premiere of the fifth feature in the Critters franchise, Critters Attack!, from the writer/director of the 2016 festival hit The Cleanse (Aka The Master Cleanse), Bobby Miller. One of the strangest franchises around, Critters has had a recent renaissance with a re-release on home video from Shout! Factory of the original four-film series, and the Shudder original series, Critters: A New Binge. While the series opened to a lukewarm response, I'd be willing to bet that old school creature feature fans will be much more enthusiastic about Critters Attack! Fresh out of high school, Drea is struggling to keep her spirits up after having been rejected from her school of choice...

Johnny Galecki promises there will still be some laughs in his new movie “The Cleanse,” but the “Big Bang Theory” and “Roseanne” star tells TheWrap that this fantasy goes deeper into the universal human struggle to “kill your inner demons before they kill you” than his current TV sitcoms.
Written and directed by Bobby Miller, “The Cleanse” stars Galecki as Paul, a man who struggles immensely with social anxiety and decides to go on a retreat that promises to cleanse one’s inner demons.
Joined by three others, he is instructed on the retreat by their guide, Lily (Anjelica Huston), to drink a special cleansing potion when he arrives.

But after the potion triggers a sudden bout of sickness, Paul and the others discover that the retreat’s promise was quite literal, as they cough up small demons that are the embodiment of their deepest flaws as human beings.
“I don’t want to put out the misconception that it’s a slasher film,” Galecki told TheWrap. “It’s a bit of a comedy and a bit of a love story too and that’s one of the things I loved about it when I read it.”
“The Cleanse” is in theaters and available on VOD now.

“Roseanne” made waves when it returned to ABC after 21 years for diving head first into the U.S.’ current political divide. Johnny Galecki, who came back as David Healy last month, credits the revival’s embrace of politics as a reason for its success.
“It’s always been a show that was very contemporary and very honest about what families go through … what families argue about,” the actor told TheWrap while promoting his new indie movie “The Cleanse.”
The show, namely because of series star Roseanne Barr’s real-life politics, has been lauded by the conservative community for promoting their values and showcasing working-class, middle America. “I don’t know that a lot of shows are doing that,” the “Big Bang Theory” star said.

For Galecki — who joined Season 4 in 1992 — the show also has a personal connection, as he remembers watching the first episode when he was growing up in Chicago. “My parents said, ‘It’s like the writers are peering through our windows,'” he recalled, adding that the original series “governed when my family ate dinner.”
Galecki said he wasn’t surprised that the “Roseanne” revival has been successful. “I was one of the people who couldn’t wait for it to return,” he said.
While he had kept in touch with Barr, Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert (who had a recurring role on “The Big Bang Theory”) over the years, Galecki said when he was on set for the revival, it was the first time he had been with the entire cast in one sitting.

“Except for some sort of award the cast was given, maybe nine years ago, we’ve never all been in the same room together,” he explained.

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. Oftentimes they fail miserably.
You can thank Avengers: Infinity War spill over and May’s most anticipated blockbuster Solo (open May 25) for leaving the four week month rather spare where it concerns studio pictures despite being the start of summer. I’d steer clear of the month if I were an executive too—heck, three of the posters highlighted below aren’t even “true” theatrical releases (two hit Netflix with the third making its bow on HBO).
As any cinephile knows, however, there are always a few strong pictures banking on the oft-discussed counter-programming position.

Johnny Galecki (from "The Big Bang Theory") stars, with a cast including Anna Friel, Oliver Platt, Kyle Gallner, and Anjelica Huston. I actually really like the concept of this - I'm curious to see how he deals with his ugly "inner demon" and cleans it up. Might be cool? Or maybe not after waiting two years for a release. Following his debut feature The Master Cleanse, acclaimed indie oddity Bobby Miller is returning to the world of shorts with his upcoming End Times - a film Miller describes as a surreal and absurd short film about death. But, I was so focused on getting my first feature film, The Master Cleanse made that I made excuses for myself not to make the short. While finishing...

The gripping encounters and bonds people experience throughout their lives often times form and shape their ideals, self-perception and interactions. People often hold deeply onto the personal baggage that has informed their current personalities as a comfortable and familiar security measure. Those distinct experiences and connections are intriguingly presented in the new horror movie, ‘The Master Cleanse,’ which celebrated its Los Angeles premiere last Saturday, October 22 at the Screamfest Horror Film Festival. The fantasy movie’s L.A. premiere at the Tcl Chinese 6 Theatre took place after it had its world premiere earlier this year at SXSW. The sign of a really successful movie is, sometimes, that it’s unclear just how to review it. There’s simply too much to process, to continue mulling over, even days after seeing it. In my case this certainly applies to The Master Cleanse, and I suppose that’s a kind of review right there: if you want to see movies that are original, that keep you thinking about their “good” and “bad” points -- and force you, if just a little bit, to question some of your evaluative criteria -- then this body-horror comedy might really be for you. The “body-horror” categorization is itself part of the problem, as is the genre classification of “horror” overall. To me, horror presupposes the presence of a monster in some...

As we descend deeper into fall, the scares ramp up in theatres across the globe. For Boston-area filmgoers, that means an amazing amount of spooky films to choose from. From tomorrow, October through Sunday, October 16, the Somerville Theatre will host TerrorThon, a multi-faceted celebration of the scarier side of cinema. The beloved Ghostbusters (1984) on 70mm, a Vincent Price double feature (Tales of Terror and House of Usher) to the brand-new films such as The Master Cleanse, Blood Hunters, Egomaniac, Found Footage 3D) to live scores with silent films (The Unknown) and more. No matter where your tastes land on the spectrum of horror, you'll find something awesome. Like lady-made terror? There are several films made by women in the festival, such as Kate Shenton's Egomaniac...

Den of Geek, last month, attended the London FrightFest film festival to indulge in five days of genre films and social anxiety (our favourites).
You can only see so much of the line-up, due to the boring constraints of time, physics and human biology, but we saw a lot of films, a few of which we really need to tip you off about. Of all the films that I've seen at Fantasia this year, The Master Cleanse from writer-director Bobby Miller ranks among the weirdest and most unique. I have to admit that the first 20 minutes of the film didn't draw me in, but after that, Whoa! Things get weird, cute, squishy, sad, and heartwarming, sometimes all at once. As Miller's first feature, that's an amazing feat to pull off. His previous short film, Tub, played Cannes, Sundance, and SXSW. You can watch it here. The Master Cleanse stars Johnny Galecki and Anna Friel (in addition to Anjelica Huston and Oliver Platt) as broken people on a retreat to cleanse their bodies and become more whole in body and spirit -- with some quite unexpected results.
