A year ago, we heard that Jeffrey Reddick, whose horror credits include Final Destination, Final Destination 2, Tamara, Day of the Dead 2008, Dead Awake, and Don’t Look Back, was teaming up with fellow genre regulars Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and Dave Sheridan (Victor Crowley) to produce the slasher New Fears Eve. That project is now making its way through post-production – and as we head into the holiday weekend, a poster for New Fears Eve has arrived online! You can check it out at the bottom of this article.
Coming our way from Blood Moon Pictures and producers P.J. [Note: With the film now released in the UK, here’s a reposting of our review of Don’t Look Back from its screening at Frightfest last year]
Writer/director Jeffrey Reddick has a lot of form when it comes to supernatural horror. Not only did he create the long-running Final Destination franchise but he’s also behind the likes of underrated and under-seen supernatural slasher Tamara, Dead Awake and the more recent The Final Wish. All films that play with the idea of the dead returning for revenge on the living in one form or another. And Don’t Look Back is no different.
Don’t Look Back tells the story of Caitlin Kramer, a young woman trying to overcome her traumatic past who, whilst walking through the park one day, sees a man brutally assaulted. However no one intervenes to stop the attack. Instead they all start...

What if you never had to sleep again? Would you be more productive than you could ever imagine, or would you lose your mind? Five graduate students set out to stay awake for 200 hours in Sleep No More, but they might be driven insane by psychological horrors both imagined and real in the process. With Sleep No More coming to DVD, VOD, and digital platforms on October 2nd from Rlje Films, we caught up with director Phillip Guzman (Dead Awake) to discuss telling a horror story set in the ’80s, working with a talented ensemble of actors, and his fascination with sleep-centric stories.
Congratulations on Sleep No More, Phillip! How did the opportunity to direct this film come about, and what attracted you to Jason Murphy’s screenplay?

In addition to states, several U.S. cities also offer incentives to lure producers. One of them, San Antonio, home of the Alamo, boasts an array of unique locations, including its bustling River Walk attraction, colonial Spanish architecture and an arts district. San Antonio also delivers a 7.5% rebate that’s stackable with a Texas cash grant of up to 22.5%.
The incentive is available through the San Antonio Film Commission. There are no permit fees for shooting in more than 250 city-owned properties. Plus the commission offers help with location scouting, government liaison services, crew and resource information, and casting calls.
Specifically, San Antonio’s incentive delivers a 7.5% rebate on approved spend within the jurisdiction. The rebate can be combined with the generous cash grant provided by the state of Texas, which can range up to 22.5%

It ended up a lighter weekend than expected, mostly due to the struggles of the weekend's two new wide releases as both King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Snatched fell below Mojo's forecast. In the case of King Arthur it opened well below our estimation as the $175 million budgeted feature couldn't even crack $15 million over the three-day. Meanwhile, at #1 it was Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is already flirting with $250 million domestically after ten days in release and has now topped $630 million worldwide. For the second weekend in a row it's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the top of the weekend box office as it delivered an estimated $63 million for a domestic cume over $246 million. While this falls below our $69.9 million forecast, the 57% drop is an improvement on the average for first sequels in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and better than the second weekend holds for Avengers: Age of Ultron,...

A straightforward genre exploitation of the phenomenon described in Rodney Ascher's quasi-doc The Nightmare, Dead Awake revolves around the unfortunate victims of sleep paralysis, whose minds awaken from sleep while their bodies remain immobilized. Making things worse in this case, Phillip Guzman's film offers a supernatural creature who terrorizes these paralyzed sleepers, threatening to suffocate them before they can wake. As problematic as it sometimes was, Ascher's nonfiction pic milked the premise much more effectively than this inert thriller, which is most likely to frighten viewers who begin nodding off and fear they'll be unable to rouse themselves to leave...

The newest instalment in the long line of horror B-movies ready to grace our silver screens, Dead Awake (2016) directed by Phillip Guzman is a generic film with generic characters and a not completely generic plot. Friends battle inter-dimensional being, people get killed, true love saves the day, so on and so forth.
Now that’s not to say that there’s nothing to like about it, but it definitely does Not bring anything new to the table. While the original plot does offer a decent backbone, it falls victim to the many tropes plaguing horror films these days. But in order to give this film a fair shot, we’re going to break it down to tackle the finer points.
First of all, the acting is not terrible, and considering the dialogue, may even be kind of good. That being said, it’s clear that the main stars Jocelin Donahue...

Ahead of the film's May 12th release, we caught up with Vanocur for our latest Q&A feature to discuss making the music for Dead Awake and to reflect on his time working as a sound editor on the Tales from the Crypt TV series.

Exclusive: Flying Scotsman stars Fiennes in the unofficial sequel to Chariots Of Fire.
Us-based Archstone Distribution is in town talking up the drama On Wings Of Eagles starring Joseph Fiennes as ‘Flying Scotsman’ Eric Liddell.
The drama charts the adult life of the athlete and devout Christian and is styled as an unofficial sequel to 1981 Oscar-winner Chariots Of Fire.
Liddell was born in 1902 in China to Scottish missionaries and became a gifted sportsman who represented his country at rugby and competed in the 1924 Olympics in Paris.
He won the 400m gold medal at the Games after he refused to compete in the 100m heats because they took place on a Sunday.
A year later Liddell returned to work as a missionary teacher in China and died in a Japanese civilian internment camp in 1945.

As heartfelt as it is unsettling, the “Father’s Day” segment of the horror anthology Holidays is not only my favorite short of the film, it’s also one of the most enthralling things I’ve seen this year. For most of its runtime, the segment solely stars Jocelin Donahue as Carol, a woman listening to the instructions of her supposedly dead father (voiced by Michael Gross) on a tape player, leading her to a final destination of either hope or horror.
With Holidays now out in theaters and on VOD courtesy of Vertical Entertainment and Xyz Films, I had a chance to speak with Donahue, who discussed her powerful performance in “Father’s Day” as well as her improvised scene with Christian Bale and Antonio Banderas in Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups.
What attracted you to this story by Anthony Scott Burns and the role of Carol in particular?...

The early word on a new project from Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick, entitled Dead Awake, has hit the wire, and it focuses on "hagging." It's said that when you wake up in the middle of the night and find yourself frozen and unable to move, there's a spirit on your chest weighing you down.
Speaking as someone who has had this experience, I can tell you first-hand it's pretty frightening.
Bloody Disgusting reports that Incendiary Features, an Austin-based production company led by producer James Lamarr and director Phillip Guzman, has just purchased the rights to the flick, which follows a young woman investigating a mysterious death in her family. She must fight to save herself and her friends from an ancient evil that stalks its victims through the real-life phenomenon of sleep paralysis.
Guzman is set to direct with production slated for this fall in central Texas.
