John Lennon‘s songs drew inspiration from numerous different sources, including Ludwig van Beethoven, Elvis Presley, The Tibetan Book of the Dead, and … television. He once tried to work a line from a public service announcement into a hit song. Instead, he used the line as an album title.
A John Lennon song was originally inspired by a public service an upsetting announcement
The book Lennon on Lennon: Conversations With John Lennon features an interview from 1974. In it, he revealed his tune “#9 Dream” was going to be called “Walls and Bridges. “I mean, some of them have had twenty titles,” he said. “I change them all the time up to the last minute.”
The “Imagine” singer revealed what he was trying to communicate with the title “Walls and Bridges.” “Four walls, bridges you go over,” he said. “I think I heard it on a public service announcement. On TV — one...

An moved and moving River Gallo thanked a full and cheering house for turning out to the premiere of Ponyboi. The intersex actor starred in film, which is both a crime thriller and exploration of gender and identity. Gallo is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.
Gallo also wrote the screenplay based on a theater piece they had developed at at NYU. Estaban Arango directed.
Unfolding over the course of Valentine’s Day in a seedy area of New Jersey, a young intersex sex worker must run from gangsters after a drug deal goes sideways, forcing him to confront his past. Gallo is the heart of the gritty crime drama that’s also an exploration of masculinity, femininity and judgmental hierarchies that exist inside the queer world as well as out. Being Intersex is medical/anatomical — when a person generally appears to be one sex but has the dominant anatomy of the other.

Eugene Hernandez has reached the top of the mountain.
The journalist turned nonprofit executive has spent decades rising through the ranks of the American independent film scene. This January he assumes his seat at its apex: as the director of the Sundance Film Festival.
Hernandez, the co-founder of IndieWire and longtime leader of Film at Lincoln Center, got the coveted job in late 2022. But his official duties begin with this year’s festival, the 40th edition of the annual celebration of film that kicks off Jan. 18. He still remembers his first time in the luxury ski town of Park City, Utah, watching Robert Rodriguez’s “El Mariachi” in 1993.
“It all feels full circle,” Hernandez tells Variety, adding that he shed tears when Sundance CEO Joana Vicente called to offer the job.

Chicago – Here we are again, the end of another year, and it’s time to momentarily look back. Thus opens the 10 Best Films Of 2023, the list that represents one soul interacting with the art of cinema. That soul belongs to Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com, Wbgr-fm and Wssr-fm.
So begins my list, with such a lofty and third person proclamation. By far, the story of the year is Barbenheimer (the same weekend release of Barbie and Oppenheimer), proving in the digital age that something weird and organic can take hold, and get more people to the theaters, celebrating a true movie event. Kudos to the movie celebrators who did both in one magic day.
I format my 10 Best to reflect the on-air reviews I do weekly on Wbgr-fm and Wssr-fm and New on Missourinet.com. Each of the 10 Best will be in the on-air or audio format for your listening pleasure.

Death Grips are the latest act to fall victim to crowds who can’t behave themselves. The experimental hip-hop group ended a recent set in Fayetteville, Arkansas early after audience members continuously pelted them with glow sticks.
According to NME, fans threw objects at the band several times throughout the show, and Mc Ride left the stage and came back more than once before ultimately abandoning the gig for real. The trio was 25 songs into their reportedly 29-song set when they ended the performance.
As a Reddit user who attended the show recounted, “Someone threw a phone at them and Ride threw the mic on the ground and walked off and back. Someone threw a glowstick that hit him in the chest and he walked off, back and waiting for more. Another glowstick was thrown and they left. Fair is fair.” Watch fan-shot footage of the incident below.

But, as she became more and more popular, she started to become something more than just an actress and a dancer: She became a role model. As one of television’s pioneers in the ’70s, portraying a successful single woman on The Mary Tyler Moore Show who was career-oriented rather than fixated on finding a husband, Moore wound up becoming one of the poster children for feminism at a time when American society was changing quickly. John Lennon and Harry Nilsson were good friends who often got drunk with one another, especially during Lennon’s “Lost Weekend” period. One person who the pair also spent time with was Alice Cooper. Starz and Lionsgate have suspended producer Ian Woolf from the drama series “Bmf” following an alleged altercation with two striking Writers Guild of America writers in Atlanta on Thursday.
According to a series of tweets posted by WGA member Brian Egeston and strike captain Gabriel Alejandro Garza, the pair were on a public sidewalk, not impeding traffic, when Woolf pointed an SUV he was driving toward Egeston “as though it were a weapon and slammed the breaks within six feet of writers.”
Garza said that Woolf looked directly at him as he “hit the accelerator one more time, followed by the brakes, and skid even closer to us.” According to the pair, Woolf said that he was trying to scare them. Garza noted that they have a recording of Woolf’s explanation.
“I would implore you, in hindsight, to consider the ramifications of killing an African-American man in the streets...

Streaming fans are still stinging after HBO Max took a hatchet to their library within the last few months. Now, the same strategy is playing out with Disney, as Disney+ and Hulu are set to lose several titles as early as next week.

Outlets like Vulture, Deadline, and Variety report different lists of disappearing titles, including “Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings,” “Big Shot,” “Magic Camp,” “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” “The World According to Jeff Goldblum,” and “Willow.” The full extent of the purge may not be known until after it occurs. (See the anticipated list of cuts at the end of this article.)
Allegedly, these cuts will help the services become more profitable. But for viewers, these cuts simply mean less content on the platform.
The biggest flop on the list appears to be “Willow.

Charlie Day’s feature directorial debut hits theaters Friday when Roadside releases Fool’s Paradise, a satire in which he plays a man who is unable to speak but becomes an accidental Hollywood star. Day, who voices Luigi in the smash hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie, is no stranger to leading his own projects.
Back when he was stuck in the audition trenches, Day met fellow aspiring actors Rob McElhenney and Glenn Howerton, and the trio realized they shared not only comedic sensibilities but also frustrations about landing roles. They started making short films at home, and these would ultimately evolve into It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which premiered on FX in August 2005 with all three as executive producers. (It moved to Fxx in 2013.)
“There was a real magic at making the show in the first three, four or five seasons that can’t be recaptured because we [now] know the characters so well,...

Charlie Day is one of the most gifted comic actors of our time, but his talents are scarcely on display in Fool’s Paradise, his debut feature as a writer and director. The film stumbles out of the gate with its arduous setup: wannabe film publicist Lenny (Ken Jeong) casting about studio lots in search of a client. He lucks out when he happens to be on a set the day that a producer (Ray Liotta) brings in a homeless man (Day) recently discharged from a mental health facility as a stand-in for an uncooperative, “method” lead actor.
Despite being catatonically silent and incapable of understanding a single direction, the homeless man’s mere ability to stay in the frame qualifies him as a success. Lenny slides in after filming wraps to pitch his services, and a misconstrued outburst from Liotta’s producer character lands the unlikely new star played by Day the sobriquet “Latte Pronto.

Hunger is a film directed by Sitisiri Mongkolsiri and starring Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying and Nopachai Chaiyanam.
Hunger is an apparently low-key Thai film which lands this Saturday on Netflix, with a very interesting aesthetic and a story to tell.
Plot
A famous chef notices a “street” cook. The girl has talent, and he decides to hire her as part of his select group of assistants to serve the upper class of the country.
But the food holds a secret.
Hunger (2023) About the Movie
Interesting, to say the least. A movie about cooking served in the form of a thriller with strain spikes and, above all, a good high-contrast photography.
A film that has a clear axis around which the other stories revolve: social differences and injustice. Whether or not to go into social matters, the film raises this issue well, and knows how to distinguish both environments in rhythm as well as in the aesthetic tone.

James Adolphus’ new HBO documentary Being Mary Tyler Moore begins with an awkward 1966 interview of Moore by producer and talk show host David Susskind.
As Susskind rambles about how Laura Petrie, Moore’s character from The Dick Van Dyke Show, was a “strained idealization” of the American housewife, Moore sits with a big, clearly forced smile, before she finally breaks and launches into a celebration of Betty Friedan and The Feminine Mystique.
I’m rather sick of “Being” in the title for both documentaries and scripted stories — as if claiming to capture the essence of a person is shorthand for profundity — but Being Mary Tyler Moore is definitely invested in this sort of clash between superficial appearances and actual “being” when it comes to one of the most beloved and decorated women in TV history.
The documentary doesn’t always provide definitive answers on who Mary Tyler Moore was, but...

Note: This article contains spoilers for the entirety of “The Fabelmans.”
Steven Spielberg’s latest film stays true to its cinematic themes of family and family drama that he’s covered throughout his career. But with “The Fabelmans,” the acclaimed filmmaker finally turns the focus on what has been portrayed through metaphor, subtext or theme in many of his previous films: his own life. The film explores Spielberg’s unconventional upbringing and entry into filmmaking through the eyes of Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel Labelle).
Much of “The Fabelmans” revolves around Sammy’s life at home with his artistic mother Mitzi (Michelle Williams), engineer father Burt (Paul Dano) and three sisters, who he often enlists to act in his home movies. But things take a sharp turn when his parents’ marriage begins to fall apart, uprooting his life in more ways than one.

John Williams said he was scoring Steven Spielberg’s “deep wound” as a child of divorce in “The Fabelmans.” In an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt airing Wednesday, the legendary composer said that many children “suffer greatly” from the familial displacement.
“I imagine that a great number of children suffer greatly from divorce, from parents,” Williams told Holt in an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap. “There may be some that are relieved of a great … tense situation. But … for Steven, that was a deep wound, I think it’s fair to say.”

Filming that sizzling “Magic Mike” lap dance scene didn’t go exactly to plan for Salma Hayek.

Hayek says of the dance movies, “It is very balletic and very sexy. I was terrified about trying to make it look easy, but it really needs strength in the body, which I do not have because I don’t work out.”

Salma Hayek is a happily married woman but it took a long road to get there.
The actress married French businessman François-Henri Pinault in 2009 on Valentine’s Day. Ahead of their anniversary, Hayek is thinking back to the “intervention” that led to their union.
“I didn’t even know I was getting married that day,” she recalled to Glamour, via People. “It was like an intervention. I don’t think I ever told this story. No, they just took me to the court. My parents, my brother, they were all ganging up on me. I had a phobia of the marriage thing.”
The two had been dating since 2006 and even welcomed a daughter together in 2007.
Still, she had to be “dragged” to the courthouse by her family to go through the ceremony.

Alyssa Farah Griffin is maintaining her skepticism of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his future as a leader of the Republican Party. On Thursday’s episode of “The View,” the host bluntly predicted that he “will implode” when it really comes time to face Trump and his insults.
As part of their Hot Topics discussion on Thursday, the hosts got a laugh out of DeSantis shading the twice-impeached former president by saying “I don’t spend my time trying to smear other Republicans.” Joy Behar predicted that wouldn’t last long, while host Ana Navarro mostly just brushed it off.
“To tell you the truth, I don’t know if it’s because I’m in Florida, and I get a daily dose of it, [but] I’m already so bored with this DeSantis-Trump fight,” Navarro said. “I’m a lot more interested in a George Santos and Mitt Romney.”
