2016-08-17T07:09:07-07:00No Second Chances: Summer Movies Have Hard Time Sustaining Success
So far in 2016, nineteen different movies have held the top spot on the box-office chart, but only four movies released this year have managed to stay at number one for longer than two weeks in a row. In fact, half of the movies that have grabbed the top spot have been unable to hold on to it for longer than a single weekend, giving in to a new release the following week. This summer has been especially tough on potential blockbusters that aspired to a long, successful run in theaters.
Of the four 2016 films that have put together a sustained reign at the top, three of them - Zootopia, The Jungle Book and Finding Dory - are family-oriented movies, and the fourth - Deadpool - is an R-rated comic book adaptation. Each...

16 years ago today, Mike Flaherty bid adieu to City Hall and Michael J. Fox said goodbye to Spin City. It was the actor’s final episode as a regular on the ABC sitcom after playing the lead role since the show premiered in 1996. Fox had revealed to the public in 1998 his battle with Parkinson’s disease. As his symptoms worsened, during Spin City’s fourth season, Fox, then 38 years old, announced he would be leaving the show at the end of the season to spend more time with his family and to raise money for Parkinson's research and awareness. Spin City lasted another two seasons after Fox’s departure, with Charlie Sheen as the new lead. Fox did return for appearances in a few episodes in the final season. In that May 24, 2000 episode, the season 4 finale, Mike Flaherty fired himself to save everyone else on the mayor’s staff in the midst of a scandal,...

Everything went wrong last night on "Survivor: Kaoh Rong."
Even host Jeff Probst said he was "the most frightened I've been in all my time on 'Survivor,'" and this is Season 32. Three people collapsed. One was evacuated. And the episode ended with an infuriating round of bullying, hypocrisy, and the elimination of the most likable person on the Brawn tribe.
The drama started right away at the Reward Challenge. Everyone has talked about the particularly difficult conditions this season, and the heat took its toll when the players had to dig in the hot sun, with no hydration or protection. Debbie Wanner of the Brains tribe was the first to drop. Probst checked on her, and made sure she was fine. Then Cydney Gillon of the Brawn tribe and Caleb Reynolds of the Beauty tribe (and also "Big Brother 16") both dropped, and it was clear they were really in trouble.

Yesterday we talked about the dangers of transporters and how they could silently be killing anyone and everyone who may be walking into them. Today we learn that the transporter almost took away one of Star Trek Tng's most beloved characters!
Remember "Second Chances"? For those who don't, it's the episode where the transporter creates two separate but equal Rikers. In the series, the two parted ways with "Tom Riker" taking a position on the USS Gandhi, but that wasn't the original plan. Read the writers initial plan according to their wiki below...
According to the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, the Tng writing staff toyed with the idea of killing off Will Riker in "Second Chances," permanently replacing him with Thomas Riker as the new ops officer and moving Data to the first officer position.
Man, I love Data, but I don't think I could handle his nonsense in the first officer position.

If you’ve been watching Second Chances since it began airing this season, you know a little bit about actor Robert Krazinsky. You might even recognize him from a few of his other roles in television, but you probably don’t know that he’s a man who has had some serious problems in his life. He’s not the kind of man you might think you know, but that doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy. He’s made some decisions that might not be very good, but he’s making sure he is able to get past that as quickly as possible. Find out more

Fox’s Second Chance has not a care in the world.
Series star Rob Kazinsky (True Blood), for example, slips carelessly between his character’s American enunciation and his own British accent. Crimes of the week are wrapped up with the haphazardness of toddlers tossing their Fisher-Price people into a toy box after mommy says it’s dinner time. Heck, even the title of the show (fka The Frankenstein Code fka Lookinglass) has proven to be as changeable as it is vague.

The Walking Dead returns for season 6 with a stylish, character-focused opener that cleverly sets up next week's episode...
This review contains spoilers.
6.1 First Time Again
One show ends with a giant zombie horde attack, the other show begins by attempting to avoid the same fate. If you ever wanted some ammunition to compare the first season of Fear The Walking Dead to the sixth season of The Walking Dead, this is it. One has one of the largest cities in the world depicted as mostly empty. The other has a tiny town in the suburbs of Washington DC beset by what appears to be thousands of zombies milling around in a gravel pit, shambling down a road, and smashing recklessly into haphazardly-built retaining walls. One's the best-performing new show in cable history, and the other is five seasons of being the biggest, most-watched show on cable, breaking history with every season debut.

The second UK season of Bear Grylls' latest survival reality series, "The Island," is generating outrage after contestants have slaughtered three pigs for food and killed an endangered crocodile, having confused it with a more common caiman. An American version of the show will air on NBC this summer, debuting May 25. Reports say that PETA actually wants Grylls and the show's producers to be arrested for these actions. "Killing animals is a cheap ratings ploy and sends an especially harmful message to young viewers, who are greatly influenced by what they see on TV. Bear Grylls and the producers should be prosecuted. Fame doesn't mean immunity," the organization said in a statement. Most interesting, however, is that the animals were placed on the island by producers to be killed. (The show is filmed in the Pearl Islands off the coast of Panama.) On Channel 4's web site for the episode,...
