Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web sustained a lot of negative reviews and underwhelming ratings which a lot of people think the blame would immediately fall on the director. Still, many fans believe it was not Sj Clarkson’s fault that the material was not up to par or did not entirely capture the story of Cassandra Webb.
Dakota Johnson in Madame Web
Her earlier works with Marvel lore such as Netflix’s The Defenders and Jessica Jones are a testament that Clarkson could do wonders if only she was given a proper material to translate onto screen. Her works on television were lauded by critics, so why would her big-screen projects won’t be?

A “Murder, She Wrote” movie is in the works at Universal Pictures, with “Dumb Money” writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo and producer Amy Pascal attached, Variety has confirmed.
Blum and Angelo joined the project prior to the writers strike, and will not resume their work on the screenplay until the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have reached a deal. The “Murder, She Wrote” film is among the writers’ next projects, Blum and Angelo’s representatives shared with Variety.
The original “Murder, She Wrote” series starred Angela Lansbury as mystery writer and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher, who solves murders that occur in the fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine. The crime drama series ran on CBS for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996. Lansbury scored an Emmy nomination for every season, but never won the award.

Justin Simien has nothing but good thoughts about the people who replaced him as writer on Disney+’s upcoming “Star Wars” series focused on Lando Calrissian, Donald Glover and Stephen Glover.
“Donald is a national treasure. Glad he and Stephen get to carry the character forward their way,” Simien wrote in an Instagram story Thursday night. “Can’t wait to see. Rooting for everybody Black.”
Here’s how it looked:

Simien was originally tapped to develop the story for the show, but the “Dear White People” writer exited last year in order to direct on another Disney project, “The Haunted Mansion,” which hits theaters this week.
As first reported by Above the Line, Glover was approached to write the series after Simien’s exit, deals were made months before the double strike that has brought Hollywood to a virtual standstill.

The recent slew of high profile layoffs at Turner Classic Movies sent shockwaves through the film community. Many saw the ousting of longtime executives who shaped TCM into a beloved resource for movie buffs as a sign that Warner Bros. Discovery was planning to neglect or even eliminate the network. News of the shakeup led to increased attention on TCM, with many prominent voices advocating for its role in the current cinema landscape.
While the studio was able to tamp down the outrage by announcing that Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Paul Thomas Anderson would be involved in the network’s new programming efforts, TCM’s long term health is a topic of concern for cinephiles around the world.
While gutting a beloved network to save on costs sounds like something Logan Roy might pull on “Succession,” Brian Cox counts himself among TCM’s most ardent supporters. In a new interview with Above the Line,...

Though Ridley Scott has been full steam ahead on casting for his Gladiator sequel, he's had to make one change — while Barry Keoghan had been making a deal to play the antagonist, Emperor Geta, word arrives via Deadline that a schedule clash means he's had to drop out of the movie. But The White Lotus' Fred Hechinger is now in talks to replace him.
And Hechinger is just the latest addition to an already hefty cast, joining at the same time as Moon Knight's May Calamawy, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi (reprising his role as Gracchus), Peter Mensah and Matt Lucas.
Already in the film? Paul Mescal as the grown Lucius, son of Connie Nielsen's Lucilla (who is back for the sequel), plus Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn.
Paramount has planted a flag in 22 November, 2024 as the film's release date.

David Gordon Green‘s The Exorcist is set to be a legacy follow-up to the original classic, and Above the Line reports this week that Linda Blair is involved in some capacity.
Jeff Sneider reports, “Linda Blair will reprise her role as Regan MacNeil, Above the Line has exclusively learned. Sources say that Blair was only on set for a few days, so she’s not in the film all that much, but her return to the franchise should make fans’ heads spin with excitement.”
It’s worth noting that a Blumhouse spokesperson only confirmed to Sneider that Blair “served as an advisor” on the new movie, refusing to confirm or deny an on-screen appearance.
If she is indeed in the film as Sneider reports on Above the Line, it would mark Linda Blair’s first appearance in The Exorcist franchise since the original sequel back in 1977.

Damon Lindelof is jetting out of a galaxy far, far away. “The Leftovers” and “Watchmen” creator will no longer write the screenplay for an upcoming “Star Wars” film, Deadline reports.
Lindelof leaves the project along with his co-writer Justin Britt-Gibson, and a replacement writer has yet to be announced. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, best known for directing episodes of Disney+’s “Ms. Marvel,” reportedly remains set as the director for the film. Plot details for the project remain undisclosed, but will reportedly be announced at Star Wars Celebration next month, from April 7-10.
IndieWire has reached out to Lucasfilm for comment.
The film is still reportedly expected to be one of, if not the first, film from the “Star Wars” franchise to release in theaters since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” Currently, Disney has a slot in its theatrical release calendar for an untitled “Star Wars” film dated for December 19, 2025, but its...
