Blue Bloods fans are still heartbroken that CBS has canceled Tom Selleck’s long-running series. However, some recent news could give fans of the family drama and police procedural some hope. Could there possibly be a spinoff?
Donnie Wahlberg on Blue Bloods / YouTube CBS Parent Company Head Hints At Blue Bloods Spinoff
Could there possibly be a spinoff series of everyone’s favorite police drama Blue Bloods? According to a recent report by TV Line, it seems more likely. The television industry publication reported that on Tuesday, Brian Robbins, the Paramount Global co-ceo made a surprising announcement. This was at the annual stockholders meeting.
In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods.
Robbins also added that “CBS hit Fire Country shows huge promise.” For over six months, there has been a rumbling about a spinoff of that series named Sheriff Country, starring Lorena Baccarin.

Blue Bloods fans are still devastated that CBS pulled the plug on the wildly popular primetime drama after almost 15 years.
The Friday night series is set to end at the end of 2024 after fourteen successful seasons. But, it looks like Blue Bloods may still live on and rumor has it there’s a spinoff in the works. Here’s what’s happening with the cancelled Blue Bloods series.
CBS – Exec Drops Blue Bloods Bomb
Earlier this year CBS execs confirmed that season 14 would be the final season of Blue Bloods, led by family Patriarch Tom Selleck. Over the past fourteen seasons, viewers at home fell in love with the family of cops.
When news broke that Blue Bloods was ending, fans began campaigning to save the show, and it looks like Tptb at Paramount heard them loud and clear.

While there are many cable TV shows that have gone on far too long and need to end, there are some titles that are canceled too soon when there is still plenty of potential for the story to continue. That was the case with ABC's Station 19, and then again with CBS' Blue Bloods.
The #SaveBlueBloods campaign has spread like wildfire across the internet, with fans of the show spamming comments on the network's official accounts with the hashtag to get noticed. The stars of the show have also joined the effort, rooting for a renewal of their series.
And even though Blue Bloods is still set to end with season 14, there is now a very promising update that could change everything.
Will There Be a Blue Bloods Spinoff?

Blue Bloods might not be done yet. An extension of the popular CBS series might be in the works, a Paramount exec recently hinted.
CBS is considering ‘franchise extension’ for ‘Blue Bloods’ Tom Selleck as Frank Reagan in ‘Blue Bloods’ | John Paul Filo/CBS via Getty Images
The big Blue Bloods news came during a meeting for Paramount shareholders on June 4.
“We are building tomorrow’s billion-dollar brands right now,” Paramount Global co-ceo Brian Robbins said. “In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods, and CBS’ hit Fire Country shows huge promise.”
CBS has already announced that a Fire Country spinoff, titled Sheriff Country, will debut during the 2025-26 broadcast season, while a Dexter prequel is moving forward at Showtime. Billions spinoffs are also in development, sources told The Hollywood Reporter in 2023. But this is the first time a spinoff of Blue Bloods has been mentioned.

The future of Blue Bloods doesn’t look as blue as expected. During a presentation at Paramount Global’s annual stockholders meeting on Tuesday, co-ceo Brian Robbins provided an exciting teaser: In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for ‘Dexter,’ ‘Billions,’ and ‘Blue Bloods.’ End of an Era for the Original Series Blue Bloods is set to conclude with its 14th season, finalizing a substantial run that began in 2010. The show stars Tom Selleck, who has portrayed New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, a role that has cemented him as the family’s resilient patriarch. Despite its conclusion, the show’s popularity...

The end of Blue Bloods is almost upon us, but is it really the end of the beloved crime drama?
After S.W.A.T. was un-canceled earlier this year, Blue Bloods fans hoped there was a way forward for the long-running series.
Those hopes were dashed when the network confirmed last month that the back half of Blue Bloods Season 14 will 100% be the end for the show.
However, during Paramount’s annual stockholders meeting this week, we got our biggest indication that the franchise will not remain dormant for long.
According to TV Line, Paramount Global co-ceo Brian Robbins hinted a spinoff is in the works.
“In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods,” the exec said.
CBS tends to keep beloved franchises alive with spinoffs
Spinoffs of popular CBS series aren’t a groundbreaking concept, with NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, and Criminal Minds: Evolution being some recent efforts.

“Billions,” “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “A Spy Among Friends” star Stephen Kunken will direct a film about “The Catcher in the Rye” author J.D. Salinger.
Kunken is currently preparing to star in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s climate change play “Kyoto” in Stratford-upon-Avon, U.K. The Salinger film, titled “The Red House,” will be Kunken’s follow-up to his feature directorial debut “Before/During/After” (2020), which won awards at the San Diego, Naples, Greenland and Dances With Films festivals.
“The Red House” is in collaboration with playwright and screenwriter Richard Nelson, who Kunken previously worked with on the plays “That Hopey Changey Thing,” “Sweet and Sad,” “Regular Singing” and “Nikolai and the Others.”
“I have collaborated with him probably more than any other playwright that I’ve worked with,” Kunken told Variety of Nelson. “I love him and I’m thrilled to make the jump to this new relationship with him.”

When Paul Giamatti said he wanted to "do more horror," we're not sure anyone would have predicted this!
While doing the press rounds to promote his acclaimed comedy drama, The Holdovers, last year, the recent Academy Award-nominee expressed a desire to star in a horror project.
“Horror. I’d like to do more horror. I love horror,” he said when asked what type of movie he'd like to work on next. "I like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre a lot. I love horror. Love it!” When the interviewer was a taken aback that the well-respected actor is such a Chainsaw fan, Giamatti said: “Great movie! It’s a great movie. No, no, no, no, no, it’s a great movie, it’s a beautiful movie.”

Paul Giamatti will star in a TV version of Eli Roth’s grisly Hostel franchise. Both Roth and the films’ original producers will be involved in the new series.
A gold star to anyone who saw this coming.
Paul Giamatti, of Billions and Big Fat Liar fame, as well as his collaborations with Alexander Payne including Sideways and this year’s wonderful drama The Holdovers (pictured), is starring in a television version of Eli Roth’s Hostel, which is not a sentence I expected to type today.
It seems this collaboration has been on the cards for some time. Giamatti told Entertainment Weekly in a 2013 interview that “Eli was shooting Hostel in Prague and I was shooting The Illusionist and I met him. We talked about me actually killing somebody in that movie but it never panned out”.

After CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach last month permanently closed the door to Blue Bloods continuing beyond its upcoming final 8 episodes this fall, one of Paramount Global’s Office of the CEO members today opened the door to the franchise potentially carrying on.
During Paramount Global’s shareholder meeting this morning, Brian Robbins noted that Paramount is home of 14 brands across film and TV that have generated at least $1B in revenue, including NCIS, South Park, Yellowstone, SpongeBob SquarePants, Paw Patrol and Star Trek.
“We are building tomorrow’s billion dollar brands right now” he added. “In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions and Blue Bloods, and CBS’ hit Fire Country shows huge promise.”
Spinoffs for Dexter, Billions, Fire Country as well as NCIS have been announced; there has been no official word on a Blue Bloods offshoot yet.

Hostel is in the works for the small screen. Paul Giamatti is attached to star in a television series based on Eli Roth’s horror franchise, from Roth, Chris Briggs, Mike Fleiss, all of whom worked on the films, and Fifth Season, Deadline has confirmed.
The show is currently in development and does not yet have a network or streamer attached, but it’s described as an “elevated thriller with Roth’s trademark kills” and a modern reinvention of the horror franchise.
No details yet, but Giamatti is set to play a key role. Roth will direct and write with Briggs, and Roth, Briggs and Fleiss will executive produce.

Paul Giamatti has signed on to star in a television adaptation of Eli Roth’s horror franchise “Hostel.”
The project is in development at Fifth Season, the studio behind “Severance,” and does not yet have a distributor attached. Roth is set to direct and write with original franchise producer Chris Briggs. The two of them will also executive produce alongside “Hostel” alum Mike Fleiss.
“Hostel,” which premiered in theaters in 2005 and spawned two sequels, followed American tourists who are convinced by a stranger to travel from Barcelona to Slovakia, where they are then taken captive by an underground organization that kidnaps people for rich clients to torture and kill.
The series is envisioned as a “modern adaptation” and “reinvention” of the low-budget horror franchise, the first installment of which collected $82 million atop a $4.8 million budget. The less lucrative sequel, 2007’s “Hostel: Part II,” still raked in more than $35 million against a $10.2 million budget.

When the Emmy nominations are announced July 17, something will happen that hasn’t happened in 50 years: The nominees for best drama series will include only one previously nominated show, Netflix’s The Crown. I would love to be able to say that’s because there are so many great dramas out there and that TV Academy members are diligently watching them and championing different great ones this year. But the truth is, this field, historically among the strongest each season, now looks like a wasteland.
Such perennial nominees as HBO’s Succession and Westworld and AMC’s Better Call Saul have ended, along with second-tier contenders like Paramount+’s The Good Fight and Star Trek: Picard. Some ongoing, previously nominated shows were not back in time to be eligible, in some cases because of delays caused by the writers and actors strikes, including Netflix’s Stranger Things, Squid Game and Bodyguard; HBO/Max’s Euphoria,...

The “Nurse Jackie” sequel series is now in development at Amazon Prime Video with original star Edie Falco set to return, Variety has learned exclusively.
It was first reported in 2023 that a “Nurse Jackie” followup was in the works at Showtime from Lionsgate Television, but the project has now moved to Amazon.
The official logline states, “10 years after we left Jackie Peyton (Falco) clinging to life in the series finale, we find her back on her feet in spite of having lost her nursing license. The continuation of her story will find her facing new dilemmas in trying to be good in a world where being bad is often not only easier, but a lot more fun.”
Liz Flahive and Abe Sylvia serve as writers and executive producers on the sequel series, with both having worked as producers and writers on the original series. Sylvia is also attached to direct.

“A Man in Full,” the sprawling Tom Wolfe novel now adapted by screenwriter David E. Kelley into a limited series for Netflix, centers on a protagonist who, for all his resources, can’t bend the world to his will. Over six episodes, the show finds itself in a similar bind. “A Man in Full” boasts an all-star cast, led by Jeff Daniels as Atlanta real estate tycoon Charlie Croker; an Oscar-winning multi-hyphenate behind the camera; and a dense lode of source material. But the show ends up far less than the sum of its parts, an oddly generic and muted take on a larger-than-life American story.

There’s a nice trio of specialty films to highlight this weekend from Joanna Arnow, Uberto Pasolini and Caitlin Cronenberg’s feature directorial debut.
Joanna Arnow’s micro-budget comedy The Feeling That The Time For Doing Something Has Passed world premiered in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. It follows a thirtysomething New York woman as time passes in her long-term casual Bdsm relationship, low-level corporate job, and quarrelsome Jewish family. Arnow writes, directs and stars. And that’s Bdsm, as in bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism.
The helmer is thrilled to see her feature (after 2017’s i hate myself :), and a handful of well-received shorts) launch a theatrical run, with Magnolia distributing. “That’s how I dream of my movies being seen,” Arnow tells Deadline. “It’s also so important to see comedies (on the big screen) Shared laughter with strangers is quite beautiful and healing in a way.

HBO had the Lakers, now FX has the Clippers. Will the series’ fates differ (as the real-life teams’ have), or will “Clipped” face the same quick, quiet end as “Winning Time”? We’ll find out this June, when FX’s latest ripped-from-the-headlines adaptation premieres exclusively on Hulu. The trailer was released Thursday, April 25 — just under six weeks prior to the premiere — and now you can watch the first footage below.
Set in 2013, the six-episode limited series stars Ed O’Neill as L.A. Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling and Laurence Fishburne as the team’s head coach, Doc Rivers. Formerly with the Boston Celtics (who won an NBA title in 2008), Rivers had just joined the Clippers when the owner’s racist comments went public, sending the organization into a tailspin and Sterling into a power struggle with Rivers, players, and the NBA at large. 10. Altered Carbon (2018–2020) Fell Flat After S1
For all the cyberpunk connoisseurs, Altered Carbon was a breath of fresh air. A phenomenal setting, compelling characters, and engaging mystery — it had it all. The hype for Season 2 was real, but halfway through, the showrunner changed… Let’s just say that very few people even finished watching the new series.
9. Heroes (2006–2010) Was Gone for Good After S1
When Heroes Season 1 premiered in 2006, it became an instant nationwide cultural phenomenon. Everyone and their grandma were talking about it non-stop, and it felt like the new TV show was there to stay. Indeed, it stayed around for three more seasons, but those were so terrible the audience decided to ignore their existence.
8. Sleepy Hollow (2013–2017) Lost Its Essence After S1
Sleepy Hollow Season 1 got all the creepy fairy tale/legend fans excited. Unfortunately, after hyping the audience up, the show changed a showrunner and went into oblivion.

Fans may have said their goodbyes to the Showtime series, but the world created within it is yet to be over, with a spinoff already planned and greenlit.
In October 2023, fans of the hit TV series learned that Showtime plans to have not one – or two, mind you – spinoff of the successful series but four.
Hopefully, it won’t go the way most of “Game of Thrones’” spinoffs have gone and every one of them will see production.
Speaking of production, “Billions: London” is gearing up to start filming in August. To maintain familiarity with the original show, even though we’re headed to a brand new location, the network has wisely retained original creators and executive producers Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
