- [first lines]
- Lt. Whitfield C. 'Banks' Hamilton: I'm here today to talk to you about a man who killed dozens... John Rambo. And it's good that he's dead. This man enlisted in the Army when he was 17. He was in Vietnam by his 19th birthday. We taught him to kill. We taught him to survive. In '71, that was put to the test. He was captured by the North Vietnamese. And one by one, over seven months, they tortured Rambo's unit to death.
- [flashback to 1971, as Rambo, Delmar Barry, and another member of their unit are being interrogated by the Viet Cong]
- Head Viet Cong: [interrogating Rambo] You think I am stupid? You think we don't know about the rescue mission?
- [shoots the unnamed member of Rambo's unit]
- Head Viet Cong: I know.
- [One of the Viet Cong lifts Rambo up]
- Head Viet Cong: [points at Delmar Barry, and then points his gun as Rambo] So what will you tell my to keep this man alive? Huh?
- [as the Viet Cong train their guns on Barry, Rambo breaks free from his bonds and takes out both the Head Viet Cong and another soldier with his own gun, while Barry heabutts another Viet Cong and takes his AK-47 rifle]
- Lt. Whitfield C. 'Banks' Hamilton: [narrating] ... Until only he and Staff Sergeant Delmar Barry remained.
- Green Beret Sergeant: Odds on you guys was you were dead.
- Delmar Barry: Ha! Glad to see you too, Sergeant!
- Green Beret Sergeant: We got a chopper comin' for you guys - but it's gonna get messy. You guys need to crash that party.
- Delmar Barry: Nice work, man!
- Delmar Barry: [spotting the rescue helicopter and backup shooting the Viet Cong] There they are! I can see our rescue team!
- Delmar Barry: Aw hell, man, Charlie's got serious firepower - move cover-to-cover!
- Delmar Barry: John, listen man, the chopper's comin'. We just need to stay alive.
- Delmar Barry: Just like old times, huh?
- Green Beret Sergeant: [tossing Rambo a hand grenade] Here - I'm sure you'll think of somethin' good to do with this.
- Delmar Barry: Keep the pressure on, John!
- Delmar Barry: Good shooting!
- [the rescue helicopter fires missiles at the Viet Cong camp]
- Delmar Barry: How does it feel, Charlie?
