Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be heading into production on Scream 7 soon – but that project has turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. Things are looking good for him now that he has escaped from that mess, as he recently signed on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad, and now Deadline reports that he’ll be directing the “fast-paced thriller” Drop for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise. Drop has even found its lead already: Meghann Fahy, who was recently seen on season 2 of The White Lotus.
Details on the story Drop will be telling have not been revealed. All we know is the “fast-paced thriller” description and the fact that the screenplay has been written by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach,...

Despite having chances of once again flourishing in the industry like before, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is seemingly taking the hard way by making brutal changes to its characters and transforming the franchise into what fans’ have been terming as “M-She-u” lately.
While this change is clearly not sitting well with fans — especially those who have been attached to the onscreen projects and comics alike right from the start — the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot film has reportedly been caught up in this fire as well.
The Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Since a certain show about houses and dragons just wrapped, HBO Max has a big scheduling hole fill next month. How will they go about it? Let’s find out with the streamer’s list of new releases for November 2022!
Obviously, there is no replacing House of the Dragon‘s cultural impact so HBO is looking for some singles in November, rather than the homerun. Things get started on in promising fashion on Nov. 3. That date sees the premiere of Titans season 4 and the interesting true crime documentary Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty. The former will continue the adventures of DC’s heralded Titans team (and introduce some new heavy hitters) while the latter will try to keep pace with Netflix’s prolific true crime output.

“The Good Nurse” starring Oscar winners Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne hits Netflix on October 26, six weeks after its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. Deadline awards expert and reviewer Pete Hammond wrote that Chastain is “terrific” and that the movie is “one of the best films of 2022.” With her chances this year still up in the air, let’s look back at Chastain’s wild ride to Oscar glory last March.
In September of 2021, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” was released nationwide starring Chastain as the flamboyant televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. At that time, Chastain was viewed as a well-respected actress due for Academy recognition. She already had two Oscar nominations under her belt for Best Supporting Actress in 2011’s “The Help” and Best Actress for “Zero Dark Thirty” in 2012.

In the Netflix original film “Operation Mincemeat,” Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen are two British officers in World War II who develop a rather silly plan in order to throw the Nazis off the scent.
They plan to have a body wash up on the shore in Spain containing fake British intelligence of where their next invasion will be. But as they quickly find out, not just any corpse will do.
“Operation Mincemeat” is based on a true story of an actual operation during the war that made the Nazis think an attack was coming in Greece, all as they were planning their invasion into Sicily. And the British developed a plan to disguise a corpse of a tramp who had died of eating rat poison and dressed him as an officer carrying Allied secrets.

“Any time you’re taking on a real-life person there is additional pressure,” says Linda Dowds, the makeup department head for the Tammy Faye Bakker biopic, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” starring Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain. “With Tammy Faye, I think there is a whole generation that just knows her from those late night sketch shows. Mascara running down her face and all of that. I never found one piece of footage… where here makeup was all running like that. It really was something that was created in the comedy world.” Watch the exclusive video interview with Dowds and hair department head Stephanie Ingram above.

Big Little Lies is back in action for the highly anticipated second season with an updated all-star cast that includes a handful of Hollywood giants such as Meryl Streep. Besides Alexander Skarsgard's mysterious return as Perry, our most pressing casting question revolves around Douglas Smith as Corey Brockfield. He's Jane's offbeat coworker who's a surfer and aspiring marine biologist. While we got a glimpse of his character in episode one, we don't know a lot about him yet. We bet, however, that you might have heard of the actor behind the scenes.

Besides this part, Smith appeared in a handful of TV procedurals early in his career,...

Jessica Chastain has had an unusual career. She started acting at a young age and even gained admittance to Julliard one of the country’s top acting programs. She then seemed to struggle for many years with small roles on TV and occasional theater performances before she suddenly seemed to be everywhere in 2011. She appeared in four major films in key supporting roles with esteemed directors and quickly became one of Hollywood’s most sort after actresses. Even more surprising is this breakthrough came at the age of 34, an age where sadly many actresses start to worry about their roles drying up in film’s ever more youth obsessed culture.

Even if you aren’t familiar with the work of musician and composer Max Richter, you’re still probably familiar with his work and you just don’t know it. Richter has been a consistent presence in the film and TV world with his very distinctly scores for projects like “The Leftovers,” “Miss Sloane,” “Hostiles,” and most recently “White Boy Rick.”
But perhaps his most famous contribution to film over the last couple years was in “Arrival,” where his song “On the Nature of Daylight” is used as the theme for the film (though the incredible Jóhann Jóhannsson did the score).

The way Jessica Chastain burst on to the scene, it’s hard now to envision a cinematic landscape that doesn’t involve her. One of Hollywood’s biggest stars, she mixes charisma, activism, and sheer talent to be one of the most high profile A-listers in the business. Already a favorite for the Oscars, nomination wise, she’s an icon. As such, and wish a new movie on the way this weekend, it’s a perfect time to pay her some tribute. Chastain makes for a perfect spotlight subject. That’s exactly what’s going to be happening today too, so let’s get this show on the road! Chastain began her career by having a ton of films come out almost at the same time. There was Jolene, which shot first, but then The Debt, followed by the 2011 deluge of Coriolanus, The Help, Take Shelter, Texas Killing Fields, and The Tree of Life.

This year, a record 928 people were invited to join the motion picture academy and will be eligible to vote for the 2019 Oscars. Compare this intake to the totals of the previous four years: 774 in 2017; 683 in 2016; 322 in 2015; and 271 in 2014.
While Academy Awards nominees are automatically eligible for consideration, the rest of the candidates must go through a fairly cumbersome process. A candidate must meet certain branch specific requirements before even being eligible.
For example, actors must “have a minimum of three theatrical feature film credits, in all of which the roles played were scripted roles, one of which was released in the past five years, and all of which are of a caliber that reflect the high standards of the Academy.” For writers, directors and producers they need have just two of these credits.
The executive committee of the branch must endorse the application before forwarding it to the Board of Governors for final approval.

In an astonishing move to swell the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences membership ranks, a record 928 artists and executives from 59 countries have been invited to join this year. The branches have increasingly actively sought eligible people to become Academy members, but the Board of Governors makes the final call; this year, they did not invite Kobe Bryant although he won an Oscar for animated short “Dear Basketball.”
Clearly, people of color (38 percent) and women (49 percent) are among the many invites, as the Academy continues to address its long-term white-male dominance. As always, actors make up the largest branch of the Academy, but many new members also come from overseas.
In 2017, the Academy invited 744 new members.
Seventeen Oscar winners are among the new invited members (Melissa Etheridge) and 92 Oscar nominees. Nine of the 17 branches invited more women than men. The percentage of women in the Academy has risen from...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited a record number of new members, extending invites to 928 people.
The Academy topped last year’s record of 774 new members. It invited 683 members in 2016 and 322 in 2015, which were also record numbers.
The expansion of Academy membership to more than 9,200 stems from an ongoing effort to diversify its ranks following uproar over the lack of African-American nominees in 2015 and 2016, which culminated in 2016’s #OscarsSoWhite controversy. Two weeks after the widely criticized nominations were announced, AMPAS announced a goal to double the number of women and diverse members of the Academy by 2020.
If all the 2018 invitees accept, the overall membership would be 9,226.
Monday’s invitations, if accepted, will result in 38% of the Oscars’ governing body’s new class being comprised of people of color, increasing their representation from 13% in 2017 to 16%.
Meanwhile, the new class is 49% female, boosting the total representation of women...
