Amy Adams has been in development with Nightbitch for over a year, but details have now started to surface as the neo-horror film has recently released a new poster from Searchlight Pictures. The film has been written and directed by Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Nightbitch is based on a novel by Rachel Yoder. The film will tell the story of “a suburban mom thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler. As she embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a dog.”
Adams plays that possibly canine housewife. Scoot McNairy (Monsters) is also in the cast, playing her “oft-traveling husband,” while Mary Holland, who is best known for appearing in the Netflix release Senior Year and for co-writing and co-starring in Clea DuVall’s romantic comedy Happiest Season, takes on an unspecified role.

The buzz has been building since last summer, when we learned Amy Adams will take the lead in the upcoming horror comedy, Nightbitch, a comedy horror production that is already sharpening its claws for our imaginations. This six-time Oscar nominee actress, 49, takes on the role of a woman who begins to transform into a dog (or believes she is the one… it remains to be seen).

And with the poster being so gloomy, we can’t deny the fact that anticipation is at fever pitch!

The first official poster for upcoming horror comedy, Nightbitch, has been released to mark Mother's Day. The surreal-sounding horror comedy stars Amy Adams (Man of Steel) as a woman who starts to believe she's undergoing a hair-raising transformation.
The six-time Academy Award nominee will play a woman who begins to transform into a dog (or thinks she does... it's not really clear). Searchlight Pictures acquired the project, which is described as a "darkly comic horror" adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s acclaimed debut novel of the same name.
Can You Ever Forgive Me? director Marielle Heller will take the helm.
“She’s incredible, I mean, we all know Amy Adams is incredible," Heller said of Adams' performance in a recent interview with IndieWire. "She’s been nominated for a million Academy Awards. She’s amazing, but she really is special in this movie and I’m just so excited for the world to see her.

Searchlight Pictures announced on Friday that its darkly comedic horror film Nightbitch, starring six-time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams (Arrival), has been slated for release in theaters on December 6.

Nightbitch tells the story of a woman thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs, who slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, as she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine.
Marking a reemergence of Megan Ellison’s reconfigured Annapurna in the marketplace, the project came together when Bond Group and Annapurna acquired film rights to Yoder’s book and developed the script alongside Heller. In May 2022, Searchlight acquired worldwide rights to the project, in a deal valued at over $25M.

Six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams will find herself back in the awards conversation again in 2024. The actress, whose most recent Academy Award nomination came in 2019 for the film “Vice,” stars in the new movie “Nightbitch” from writer-director Marielle Heller (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?” and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”). On Friday, Searchlight set “Nightbitch” on its release calendar for December 6.
Based on the book by Rachel Yoder, “Nightbitch” is about a woman who “pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom, but soon her domesticity takes a surreal turn.” Amazon provides a more detailed description of Yoder’s novel, for those who are interested:
An ambitious mother puts her art career on hold to stay at home with her newborn son, but the experience does not match her imagination. Two years later, she steps into the bathroom for a break from her toddler’s demands, only to discover...

It’s been a year and a half since Nightbitch, a project that has been described as being a darkly comic “neo-horror” movie, went into production with Amy Adams (American Hustle) in the lead role, and now we finally have an update to share: Searchlight Pictures has announced that they will be giving the film a theatrical release on December 6, 2024. This is an upgrade in the release plans, as Nightbitch was originally meant to be released through the Hulu streaming service.

Nightbitch is an adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s 2001 satirical novel about a woman who finds herself in a mind-bending and energy-sapping routine of raising a toddler in a suburban home while her husband is on lengthy business trips. By taking home the 2024 Best Actor Oscar for “Oppenheimer,” Cillian Murphy blazed a trail as the first Irish-born lead performer ever honored by the film academy. Prior to his victory, there had not been a native Irish acting winner in over 30 years nor any from his city of Cork, as the only earlier examples had involved supporting winners and fellow Dubliners Barry Fitzgerald and Brenda Fricker. His historic achievement brings the total number of different countries that have produced acting champs during the last decade to eight.
As has been the case throughout practically all of Oscars history, the United States is by far the dominant birthplace among the 2015-2024 acting winners. Of the group’s 37 unique members, 26 (or 70.3%) originate from there, including newly-crowned victors Emma Stone (“Poor Things”), Robert Downey Jr. (“Oppenheimer”), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”). Mo’Nique delivered a viral interview on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast that garnered nearly five million views in 24 hours due to the Oscar-winning comedian’s blunt comments while talking about previous public spats with the likes of Tyler Perry, Netflix, Oprah Winfrey and more. In one of the podcast’s most quoted moments, Mo’Nique declared that her career might’ve been as successful as that of fellow comic Melissa McCarthy had she been given equal opportunities as her white contemporaries.
“If I was a white woman, do you know what my name would be? Melissa McCarthy,” Mo’Nique told host Shannon Sharpe. “If I was a white woman, my name would be Melissa McCarthy. Same track record! Five-year sitcom in syndication. The opportunities are not the same.”
McCarthy starred on the CBS sitcom “Mike and Molly” for six seasons and won an Emmy for outstanding actress in a comedy series.

Grammy winner Dua Lipa will be seen in shades of gray in the upcoming film ‘Argylle’ and the film’s director said that when the singer came on board she proved to be a “true professional, punctual and dedicated.” Lips plays as Argylle’s elegant, lethal nemesis, Lagrange. She is an international terrorist, working for the highest bidder.
Talking about the coming on board and elaborating further on her role , Lipa says, “I was starting to put out feelers that I wanted to do a film at some point, and Matthew got in touch. I was excited but nervous because I had never done anything like this before. I feel like she’s definitely my alter-ego. I’m going to take her with me after this everywhere I go.”

Marielle Heller broke out big at Sundance back in 2015 with coming-of-ager The Diary of a Teenage Girl – the pic received a lot of fanfare and the Special Jury Award for Cinematography (Brandon Trost). Following 2018’s Can You Ever Forgive Me? and critical hit A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019), we now have Nightbitch — a book-to-film adaptation that was originally set up at Annapurna but then sold to the Searchlight/Hulu folks. It was likely going to receive a 2023 release but it looks like they might want some film fest play to help the film get out of the gates.…...

Yorgos Lanthimos‘ “The Favourite” scored 10 Oscar nominations in 2019, including bids for Best Picture and Best Director for Lanthimos and a Best Actress win for Olivia Colman. Stone and Lanthimos reunite this year for “Poor Things,” which could be set to have an even better year at the Oscars than their previous film did.

Exclusive: Emerald Fennell likened making Saltburn, her dangerously dark comedy of class and lack of manners, “to taking your clothes off and exposing yourself.”
The filmmaker, who won an Oscar and BAFTAs for her debut feature Promising Young Woman, clarified that the “transgressive” material that she’s interested in working on means “that you have to spend a lot of your time as a director saying, ‘Trust me, I think this how we’re going to do it.’ And so then people watch it, which is so thrilling. But yeah, you are showing yourself. You are taking your clothes off and exposing yourself.”
She added that Saltburn, while made on a big canvas, is a ”very intimate“ movie.
She told me during a long conversation at the Telluride Film Festival, where the film had its world premiere, that this is a film “about needing and wanting and desire and sex.

Melissa McCarthy started her career doing improvisational comedy at The Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles, which is also where she met her husband Ben Falcone. She then went on to a successful run on the TV series “Gilmore Girls” for seven seasons. She followed that up with other TV shows and small movie roles but it would be a return to The Groundlings crew that would launch her into super-stardom. Her former castmates Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo wrote a female gross-out comedy called “Bridesmaids” and cast McCarthy along with other Groundlings veterans Maya Rudolph and Wendi McLendon-Covey. The film would become a surprise hit in the genre which was usually dominated by men and even earn McCarthy an Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actress.

Though the house overflows with contemporary art curated by Sinclair’s wife, Hélène, and light that pours in through floor-to-ceiling windows, sorrow echoes between its hallways and behind its locked doors. Two years earlier, we learn, the Sinclairs’ eldest drowned himself on the property, a trauma that sent J.M. into professional hiatus. This week’s streaming releases bring a heavy hitter in the form of a perennial Oscar contender who has been severely under-recognized over the years. Her new movie is a must-see that’s well worth the premium VOD price.
The contender to watch this week: “You Hurt My Feelings“
Nicole Holofcener should have several Best Original Screenplay nominations by now — for “Walking and Talking” and “Enough Said” in particular. She shared an adapted-screenplay nom with Jeff Whitty for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” but “You Hurt My Feelings” gives Holofcener another shot at her first solo recognition. It stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a novelist whose mild personal crises balloon when she overhears her husband (Tobias Menzies) saying he dislikes her new book. It’s a wise, funny, humanistic gem, like all of Holofcener’s work, and it features a euphorically good performance from Louis-Dreyfus. Rent it on VOD.

Signature Entertainment has acquired the U.K. and Irish rights to Protagonist Pictures’ sci-fi comedy Jules, starring Oscar winner Ben Kingsley (Sexy Beast).
The film is led by Kingsley and also stars Harriet Sansom Harris (Licorice Pizza), Jane Curtin (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) and Zoe Winters (Succession).
The feature was produced by Deborah Liebling (65) and Andy Daly (Review), Michael B. Clark and Alex Turtletaub (The Miseducation of Cameron Post), and Oscar nominee Marc Turtletaub (Little Miss Sunshine), who also directed the project from a script written by Gavin Steckler (Review).
The movie focuses on Milton (Kingsley) who lives in a small town and is getting more forgetful and isolated with age. “When an extra-terrestrial crash lands in his backyard, destroying his beloved birdbath, the two form an unlikely bond,” according to a plot description.
Bleecker Street previously acquired the North American rights to the feature.

Nicole Holofcener’s latest comedy “You Hurt My Feelings” received a warm bear hug of a reaction from critics and audiences at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Angela Bassett didn’t quite do the thing and win the Academy Award this year, but she came mighty close. The iconic actress was nominated for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” for her powerful performance as Queen Ramonda, which was one of the star turns not only in the “Black Panther” sequel but in the entirety of the MCU. Bassett lost out to Jamie Lee Curtis (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) but the fact that she was even nominated is something of a victory in and of itself. Her was the first acting bid the MCU has ever received — so Bassett is still very much a history-maker given the Oscars’ historically snobbish attitude towards superhero flicks.
But Bassett isn’t the only performer to wow audiences in an MCU movie — the franchise is actually littered with excellent performances that have been overlooked purely because they feature in superhero films. With that in mind,...

Writer-director Nicole Holofcener is back with what appears to be another finely-observed comedy-drama about the contours of human relationships with “You Hurt My Feelings.” The picture stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who led Holofcener’s 2013 outing “Enough Said” opposite James Gandolfini. The new one swaps the first’s Los Angeles setting for New York City, offering classic Woody Allen vibes to this tale of aging intellectual urbanites dealing with a list of existential crises.
Louis-Dreyfus is a novelist whose work hasn’t been selling lately. She vents to her mother, played by Jeannie Berlin, that life would have been better for her if her father were physically abusive, not just verbally abusive. Her husband, played by Tobias Menzies, is a therapist who clearly is having trouble pretending to care about the mundane squabbles of his patients. While the couple puts up a front of support for one another, there are clearly cracks.

Trust. Support. Honesty. Any relationship, no matter how long any given partners have been together, can't be expected to succeed without these fundamental building blocks. But what happens when you catch someone during a moment where they're just a little too honest? Julia Louis-Dreyfus learns this the hard way in the delightfully simple premise of the very straightforwardly titled "You Hurt My Feelings." Successful but past-her-prime novelist Beth (Louis-Dreyfus) can sense that time is working against her, relegating her as one small voice in a sea of authors who are all clamoring to become the next big thing in the literary world. Wracked by self-doubt, all she has is her past achievements and her ever-supportive husband, Don (Tobias Menzies). Nothing seems amiss ... until she happens to overhear how he really feels about her latest work.
Cue the downward spiral and existential crisis that only an actor like Louis-Dreyfus could make...

"I wasn't lying, I was encouraging." "That's not true. You were lying to be encouraging." A24 has revealed an official trailer for Nicole Holofcener's new film You Hurt My Feelings, which originally premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This is the sixth feature she has directed, in addition to working on screenplays for plenty of others, including Can You Ever Forgive Me? and The Last Duel most recently. A novelist's longstanding marriage is suddenly upended when she overhears her therapist husband giving his honest reaction to her latest book contrary to what he had told her. A film about how we're always too nice in our relationships, always afraid to say our honest feelings. Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as Beth, along with Tobias Menzies, Michaela Watkins, Owen Teague, Arian Moayed, and Jeannie Berlin, plus Amber Tamblyn & David Cross. This is a rather delightful trailer that perfectly captures...

In the time since Olivia Colman won the 2019 Best Actress Oscar for appearing in 49 minutes and 48 seconds of “The Favourite,” the academy has consistently given the same award to women with much higher amounts of screen time. All of the category’s last three champions delivered performances that are over 80 minutes in length and rank among the 22 longest ever honored here. Since four of the five current Best Actress nominees hit the 93-minute mark, this trend is practically bound to continue.
Reigning Best Actress victor Jessica Chastain earned the prize for her one hour, 36 minutes, and 42 seconds of work as Tammy Faye Bakker in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” which amounts to 76.45% of the film. Nightbitch, a project that has been described as being a darkly comic “neo-horror” movie, is currently filming with Amy Adams (American Hustle) in the lead role – and Deadline has just broken the news that Adams is being joined in the cast by Mary Holland, who is best known for appearing in the Netflix release Senior Year and for co-writing and co-starring in Clea DuVall’s romantic comedy Happiest Season. Exclusive: Mary Holland (Senior Year) has signed on to star alongside Amy Adams and Scoot McNairy in Searchlight Pictures’ darkly comic horror Nightbitch, based on the debut novel of Rachel Yoder. Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) is directing from her own script.
The film, now in production, tells the story of a woman thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs who slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, as she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine. Amy Adams is starring in a brand-new movie called "Nightb*tch" that will stream on Hulu. The film, which will be written and directed by Marielle Heller, will go into production this fall with plans to stream on Hulu in 2023.
The movie's producers describe the film as a "darkly comic neo-horror," and it's based on the 2021 Rachel Yoder novel of the same name. The book is about a new mother who - struggling with the demands of raising a toddler, trying to make art, and trying to connect with other moms - becomes convinced she's turning into a dog. It's terrifying, but she also finds peace and connection with the fierceness of the canine within. Jason Ritter was previously announced to be joining Adams in the film as her character's husband.

Two years after Amy Adams’ production company Bond Group, along with Annapurna, acquired the rights to the novel “Nightbitch,” the film is finally howling straight ahead.
Searchlight Pictures has officially acquired the neo-horror thriller, already written and soon to be directed by Marielle Heller. Annapurna will produce the film, which is based on Rachel Yoder’s fall 2021 debut novel of the same name. The film will be released on Hulu, with other release plans to follow, per Searchlight.
“Nightbitch” tells the story of a stay-at-home mother (six-time Oscar nominee Adams) who begins to embrace the inherent feral power that comes with being a parent. When her husband travels for work, the unnamed lead character is isolated in the suburbs with only her two-year-old son for company. Soon, she starts to become convinced that she’s slowly turning into a canine and eventually seeks help to hide her feral alter ego from a mommy support group.
