I've always been a fan of the Nostalgia Critic ever since I found out about him back in about 2010, he was funny, he made valid points, and even introduced me to movies I probably wouldn't have seen in his more positive lists like Doug's Top 20 Favourite Movies, which introduced me to the film Brazil and A Clockwork Orange. But ever since he made his big comeback in (what I like to call) the white wall era, I've noticed a few changes, like his reviews now following plot lines, the addition of side actors (Malcolm and Rachel, who would later be replaced with Tamra, and occasionally Rob), and sketches throughout the episodes and although I don't hate these things, it does make me ask the question "why fix what's not broken?". He was great before, why change what people already loved?
I say all this because it leads me to what I hate about this review, we see nothing of the actual movie, it's all recreated through sketches, so when he tries to tell a joke about the movie, unless you've already seen the film, how are you supposed to get it? For example if he said "this actor in the film looks like this celebrity", how would we find it funny, we can't see the actor. This can be applied to almost every joke in this review. But that aside, are the sketches funny? Far from it, I didn't laugh once throughout this review because its all trying to satire the movie through the sketches, but I have no idea what exactly is being satirized because I haven't seen the movie, and if I had seen the movie, why would I need to see a review of it? I've already got my own opinions on it.
So in conclusion, just stay far away from this episode, luckily he did a very good review of Planet of the Apes (2001) after this, but that doesn't make up for this dreadful episode, honestly people you'll be wishing for another Bart's Nightmare lets play when watching this train wreck, it's that bad.
1/10 - Underwhelming is an understatement.
