Words cannot express this.

I couldn't have imagined an ending more heartbreaking and more emotional than this. This is not just an anime episode, this is a piece of art. It seems that all of those 21 previous episodes were made just for this last one. I thank those who created this anime, for giving me such a beautiful and unforgettable experience.

As close to perfect as it could get.

Warning: Spoilers
The ending was absolutely perfect and even though it might have been expected from a lot of people, it still felt unexpected to me. Starting from the lovely performance by Kousei, to the love letter from Kaori and Tsubaki's kick everything about this episode screams perfection. The show itself wasn't the most entertaining that you'll see but the ending will touch you, that's for sure.

Amazing

Best tv episode ever this should be a 9.9 or 10. The ending was so filled with emotion. It made me that happiest and saddest I've felt in a while. Anyone who's considering this show should watch it on the merits of this episode alone. The show overall is amazing too though.

That's the only word I can use to describe this episode.

Of course, one would wish that the ending was happier or completely different, but at the same time, you don't want anything about Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso to change in the slightest.

It is sad, and I cried a lot, but the feeling wasn't that of pure sadness.

I believe animation can be the most powerful medium of storytelling, and the first half of this episode is the living proof of that.

It is masterfully directed, beautifully performed and composed, and the voice acting is on point, everything comes together to craft one of the most astonishing pieces of television in history.

The only gripe I have is that terrible BL joke at the second half, but everything else is virtually perfect.

I wish more studios would dare to product something like this.

Instant classic from the moment it was aired, and it shows in the impact it had even outside the anime community.

Simply Amazing

Review By Kamal K

This simply was just fantastic. More feelings while playing. Then two of them playing together in the space he created. As if he knows, she's gone.

In the letter, she saw him when she was 5 and like him. She lived freely, knowing that she lives short. She lied about liking childhood guy. Childhood girl is still willing to be with him.

Japanese people sure know how to give Emotional Damage
gordebhagwat12 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen many country movies or series, but sometimes when I want to cry, i just watch some anime. In fact i became more emotional since i started watching anime. Before that i was convinced boys do not cry. If you already know someone is going to die, you get huge disappointed and just watch it without any emotions, just watching for story. But this is what saperates Japanese anime from others. Not many can do this kind of trick, i knew kao Chan going to die, before starting the anime, it was a big spoiler for me, that's why i kept avoiding this anime for much time, but since it's april month, i finally started it. I was already prepared to cry. The 2nd ep where they introduced her watch amazing. That was the episode kept me hooked. But in middle, i didn't enjoyed much. It felt like a normal anime. Maybe lack of music knowledge 😭. But i knew this episode was going to be the best episode. And it is the best episode. I knew the last performance will be the best and i wasn't disappointed. It is the best performance. And that 💌. Beautiful. Though they should have shown tsubaki Chan getting emotional with kosei Kun. And then they finally getting admission in the same high school. But anyways it was best.

This one hits different
samgallenberger9 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'll probably ramble here as I try to put my thoughts together. I have watched my fair share of anime and over the last year or so have really dove into a heavy amount of anime romance. I've known about Your Lie in April for a while and had been putting it off. That changed ironically this April.

I don't know if I was spoiled or not but I had a feeling or internal knowledge of what was going to happen. Each episode built up that internal dread of knowing how this was going to end, hoping I'd be wrong, and finally here in the finale it happens.

However, unlike some anime, I didn't really shed any tears here. Why? Because Your Lie in April, like Darling in the Franxx has a much deeper impact than 'in the moment' tears. It is so tragically beautiful that it truly hits you at your core.

Yes, Kaori's death is gut-wrenching, and it makes you feel like you've seen a real 14 year old pass away far too soon. But the impact she had on those around her, the way they send her off, and reveal the titles meaning is nothing short of sensational.

Seeing her and Kousei play together in some sort of quasi-dream is exactly how she would have wanted to go. Her lie to get closer to Kousei shows not only how much she loved him but how much she appreciated spending each and every one of their moments together. It's raw and relatable, simultaneously painful and uplifting, something that I'll be thinking about for days, and will stick with me indefinitely.

Great first half, disappointing second half.
EddyTheMartian00713 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely loved the first half. All the piano scenes in this anime are seriously great, especially this final one. It didn't include the excessive monologues which I find to get tiresome. The visuals were fantastic, and it brilliantly showed Kousei dealing with Kaori's potential death. From the first half I thought this was gonna he the best episode by far, and an all around excellent episode of anime. However, the direction they force to take the second half is quite odd. Kaori dies and we don't really get to see Kousei deal with it much. It has a time jump where Kousei, a 14 year old boy, who lost his mother, and now the girl he loved, has basically moved on and is basically happy. I I think the way it was set up was quite obvious she was going to die and it robbed me of any feels. An aspect of the show that I really don't like, especially in the finale, is how Kousei is given some sort of mythical status. I mean he's a child prodigy, who inspires other child prodigy, and even teaches a child prodigy, and multiple girls are in love with him. I just don't like how every character had to have such a serious connection to him, because he's such an amazing person, he seems of mythic proportions. Through a letter from Kaori it is revealed how she was yet ANOTHER child inspired by him, and she literally planned this entire meeting. I absolutely HATE this reveal. Essentially Kaori is one of the WORST offenders of the "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" trope. She's the quirky girl, who is full of life, who helps our main male protagonist with his problems to become a better person, and then leaves. Kaori is an over glorified plot device solely used to fix Kousei, and she literally leaves the plot by dying for manipulative sadness. I wasn't a fan of her character already because I found the point of the character fairly obvious and not necessarily different or well enough executed to be particularly interesting, but with this reveal she instantly became one of my least favorite parts of this anime. The finale basically nearly ties up everyone's stories in the most happy way possible because the writers can't possibly give you truly sad moments instead of the manipulative predictable death. After the series ended I realized that a lot of the side characters weren't that important or well developed. Particularly Ryouta is competently underdeveloped, and they could've taken his character in many interesting directions. I enjoyed Tsubaki's arc realizing she's in love with Kousei. However, while she confesses, we don't really get a proper conclusion to it. Then I realized why it was done, so the mythical Kousei would basically have a secured future girlfriend so the audience isn't too sad. I don't know what else to say. Overall I'd say this is a bad finale, but the first half was so great it's hard for me to rate it lower. Weirdly enough, made evident by this finale, I was far more entertained by the musical aspects from this show, than the manipulative and forced emotional moments with the characters. Despite my large problems with this finale I can't say I was particularly upset with it. I definitely hate the Kaori reveal, and I don't really care for the second half of the episode, but the first half satisfied me enough.

There's just a little lie I said in April...
manueltauzer27 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I just finished watching the last episode and just as I thought I had no tears left to shed, it has once again proved me wrong. The final is beautiful and heart-wreckening in the same time, it's all you could wish for and all you hoped wouldn't happen. The whole show was a huge setup just for this episode.

While I did hope things wouldn't take this twist, it was quite obvious from the beginning, and oh boy if you paid me a million dollars I couldn't create anything that even merely touches this.

The whole show, especially this episode will take you on an emotional rollercoaster which will forever stay in your heart.

The worst fact about this episode is finding out that Kaori was in fact in love with the main protagonist this whole time, and she never found out if it reached him. I hope somewhere in the sky, she smiled down.

12/10.

I prepared to cry
lhbaker-2878322 March 2022
But nope. I did not in the slightest find myself crying. Past episodes have made me get goosebumps and made me have to blink a lot. But not this one. Plus the music felt dull compared to music in the rest of the series. Not the type of emotion to make me cry. Overall a good episode, but a meh ending.
