Briana White would be lying if she said that sometimes carrying the weight of playing the iconic flower girl, Aerith Gainsborough, didn’t affect her at all. But miraculously, after metaphorically stepping into the character’s well-traveled leather boots these last four years from Final Fantasy VII Remake to its recent predecessor Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, she’s gained the strength to manage. “[It’s] really hard sometimes for me as an actor to let go of all the expectation and let go of what everyone might be thinking about or perceiving about a specific scene,” said White. “It’s one of the biggest challenges, but something that’s so crucial to the performance is being able to let go of everything outside the booth. I consider myself to be very resilient…I think that’s something Aerith [and I] have in common.”

Joe Dante's 1981 werewolf flick "The Howling" boasts one of the most impressive werewolf transformation scenes in the genre's history. A vicious serial killer named Eddie Quist (Robert Picardo) confront's the film's protagonist, Karen (Dee Wallace), an investigative reporter recovering from a previous attack at a woods-bound therapy camp. Lit through the slits in Venetian blinds, Quist's face extends and mutates, his mouth ripping into a terrifying wolf grin, his eyes bulging. Karen witnesses the entire transformation and is, naturally, terrified. Quist was already known for his penchant for murder, but learning that he is a werewolf makes him that much more monstrous. The effects were provided by the amazing Rob Bottin.
"The Howling," while a corker of a monster movie, is also a clever satire of then-modern therapy. A certain kind of "touchy-feely" language had come into vogue in the late '70s and early '80s, and...

About Dry Grasses (Nuri Bilge Ceylan)
Nuri Bilge Ceylan made a triumphant return to Cannes last year with About Dry Grasses, for which Merve Dizdar won Best Actress at Cannes, and now Turkey’s Oscar entry now arrives on streaming. In his review, Leonardo Goi said, “The pastures in Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s luminous new film are only dry at the very end. Save for that brief summery coda, the landscape in About Dry Grasses remains a snowcapped immensity where prairies are ringed by belittling peaks, people stand out as calligraphic silhouettes, and snow falls so heavy as to blot out everything. It’s as if it fell ‘to make oblivion possible,’ observes art teacher Samet (Deniz Celiloglu), and in a film...

Something’s brewing in Call of Duty: Warzone and it might not be in the best interests of the fans. It seems like Raven Software is planning something about Ashika Island, a map introduced in the game in February 2023 as part of Modern Warfare II Season Two.
Interestingly, it was to be bigger than Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep. The map holds some interesting locations, like Shipwreck, where fans can find a recreation of one of the smallest multiplayer maps, dubbed Shipment. While many may not share the love for it as they did for the original Verdansk, the news may come as disheartening for them to some extent.

Fishing on Ashika Island is one of the fun things players can do around the map.

A few weeks ago, Sony was attacked by the gaming community after it announced that all Helldivers 2 players must link a Psn account to Steam to continue enjoying the game. This led to a massive uproar, with thousands of players review bombing Helldivers 2. At one point, the game even became the most negatively reviewed single-player title in Steam’s history. While Sony did reverse their decision, it seems like they still haven’t learned their lesson.
Ghost of Tsushima has finally arrived on PC after years of being requested by players on the platform following the successful launches of other PlayStation exclusives. Unfortunately, Sony’s decision to link PlayStation accounts to play the game yet again has frustrated many in the community, leading to the game being review-bombed on Steam.

Call of Duty topped the charts on PlayStation in April, but interestingly, not on Xbox Series consoles. Considering Microsoft’s controversial purchase of Activision, it begs the question: why are people flocking to Sony’s platform instead?
It is hard to imagine that the company is not at least concerned with something like this. Fans have also voiced their frustrations on social media at the tech giant’s handling of Call of Duty so far.

Streaming services are the bane of my existence. It’s 2024 and there are so many options that it makes my head spin. Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, Paramount Plus, Prime Video, Peacock cover the main streamers but that’s not counting the niches. Like old cartoons? Check out Boomerang. Like anime? Then Crunchyroll is for you. But what about horror fans? Sure, Hulu has its “Into the Dark” label and Netflix is always releasing something horror-related (though I question the quality.) And the horror genre features multiple options with Screambox, Arrow Player, Full Moon Features, and even Tubi. But the subject of today’s spotlight is the best of them all, with a great Ui and wonderful selection of films, nothing can compete with Shudder.

Call of Duty, as the fans knew it, has gone, and it seems like devs aren’t doing anything to get that status back. Recently, they added the infamous Rebirth Island to the game for faster gameplay, however, it too failed to live up to the mark. Moreover, Activision is doing collabs after collabs, which prompted some to compare the game with the battle royale title Fortnite.
Players once enjoyed the game for its storytelling and attention to detail. Nevertheless, now the creators aren’t either telling stories or paying attention to any of the details; they’re just vegging out for skins. The latest installment in the series, Modern Warfare 3, tried to incorporate Warzone-like elements, which was criticized as ruining the campaign’s experience, as fans are typically used to.

The Call of Duty franchise has been a pillar of the gaming landscape for many years, and in that time both gaming as a whole and the franchise itself have seen a wide array of milestone moments. Today marks the anniversary of one of those moments, being the third anniversary of one of the franchise’s biggest content shifts to date.
Three years ago was the Destruction of Verdansk event in Warzone, an event which saw the entire map completely obliterated by a nuclear bomb, shifting the setting from the present-day, Modern Warfare-inspired setting it launched with into something new entirely.

Camping in battle royale titles is a huge headache for the players. Call of Duty: Warzone is not an exception either. To minimize camping in the game, Activision has taken several steps as well. Like the Bunker Buster killstreak in the Season 2 Reloaded update which has literally made it impossible for players to camp inside tall buildings.
Another annoying camping spot is the water towers on Rebirth Island. Since Verdansk, this is the map players have liked so much. But camping in that high position was ruining the game completely. That’s why a new update is on its way to make life harder for the campers in Warzone.

Developers are finally doing something to make Call of Duty fans happy. Alongside the rumors of Zombies being a part of the next CoD game, players are going to see the return of a beloved map in Warzone Season 3. The news will be welcomed by most, as the game has been annoying fans for quite some time.
Developers have been adding a ton of content, focusing more on collaboration than gameplay. Unlike the original Modern Warfare series, the recent game in its reboot was a huge disappointment. While the recently released Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is filled with intentionally unanswerable questions, one of the most popular questions surrounding the game at the moment has little to do with the details of its labyrinthian plot. Instead, gamers everywhere are asking some variation of the same basic question, “Is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth a sequel?”
Yes, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a direct sequel to 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake. This topic is about to become surprisingly complicated, but let’s not make it more confusing than it needs to be. 2023’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth continues the story of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which makes it a sequel to that game by pretty much any definition of the word. Unless you are someone who argues that pre-planned second parts of a larger story (such as the recently released Dune: Part 2) should be counted as continuations of a shared narrative rather than traditional sequels,...

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was released a few days back on the 29th of Feb and the highly-anticipated title has been delivering as expected. After 128 critic reviews, the game has 92% positive reviews and fans have rated the title 89% on Metacritic.
The 2020 title, Final Fantasy 7 Remake was also highly rated as being a splendid RPG in the franchise. When Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was first announced, many Xbox users were disappointed, knowing it would be a PlayStation exclusive. Considering it’s developed by Square Enix, many would have thought there would be no issue with launching it on all platforms available. After all, previous Final Fantasy titles are on the platform, as are other Square Enix games.
One outspoken Xbox diehard, Parris Lilly, offered his two cents on the matter. But it seems he’s contradicting his previous statements, a fact that many fans and followers are not willing to simply gloss over.
Parris Lilly Comments on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Exclusivity and Gets Shown His Hypocrisy
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth‘s exclusivity rubbed Parris Lilly the wrong way.
The critique comes from X user BlackMaskGR, who posted three pictures directed at Parris. That’s a pretty mean-spirited accusation, but it is not entirely misplaced when one looks at the pictures in the post.

As anyone familiar with Hollywood could tell you, remakes are hard. Other than bringing something old to a new audience, many remakes struggle to bring anything fresh enough to justify the double dip. In the world of video games, it’s a little different. Based solely on the tech aspect, remaking a game affords developers the opportunity to fully execute a vision in ways previous generations only dreamed of. But that still doesn’t make it easy — especially when the game you’re recreating is considered one of the greatest ever made.

Another big award show took place this weekend (in addition to the SAG Awards), the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which celebrates indie film and TV. One thing about this awards show is that their idea of independent sometimes makes me scratch my head a bit, with HBO’s big-budget The Last of Us nominated a whole bunch in the TV category, along with Netflix’s Beef and several other streaming shows, which I’m not sure one could call independent. For films, there’s a $30 million budget cap. For TV, I’m honestly not sure what the benchmark is because Last of Us was notoriously an expensive show to shoot, costing at least $100 million.
Indeed, The Last of Us won some key awards on the TV side, winning Best Supporting Performance (for Nick Offerman) and Best Breakthrough Performance (for Keivonn Montreal Woodard). Over on the film side, American Fiction and...

The best in independent film and television were honored at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards!
Plenty of A-List stars were in attendance at the event on Sunday afternoon (February 25) at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, Calif.
Movies are only eligible for a Spirit Award if they have a budget of less than $30 million, so there are some awards favorites like Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Killers of the Flower Moon that are not nominated.
American Fiction, May December, and Past Lives lead the pack this year with five nominations each.

When it comes to truth in advertising, few albums this year are going to top Lil Jon’s just-released Total Meditation. Not remotely hip hop, the music is instead a soothing sonic bath akin to what one would hear in a massage-therapy room at a spa. As those tracks wash over you, the rapper, producer and home-improvement guru offers self-help tips (“anxiety can be a big problem for many people. When you meditate on a regular basis, the health benefits continue to increase”) and specific suggestions on how to meditate:...

There’s a famed scene in Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring that doesn’t appear in J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel. During a quaint moment at the start of their epic journey, Sean Astin’s Samwise Gamgee stops midstride in a grassy field, gripped by a sudden realization. “If I take one more step, it’ll be the farthest away from home I’ve ever been,” he says. And with Frodo’s encouragement, he does, and nothing about their journey is quaint ever again.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been a long time coming, with it being the second entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. It’s truly amazing how big the scope is. Rebirth takes everything that Remake introduced and made it even bigger, now adding a fully explorable open world. While the real-time combat doesn’t get much of an overhaul, what makes Rebirth stand out from its predecessor is the sheer amount of content. With an excellent story, tons of side quests, and a whole world to explore, Rebirth is one of the best games of 2024 so far. Rebirth takes place right after the events of Remake when the party leaves Midgar. Here, the party seeks to stop both the megacorporation, Shinra, and Sephiroth from destroying the planet. Rebirth ’s gigantic scope is a double-edged sword for its story. Spread across 14 chapters, sometimes the story’s momentum slows down...

As the PS5 enters its fourth year, the console is really starting to hit its stride with its game library. Most game studios are finally moving away from cross-generation releases on the PS4, which means we have some truly exciting games coming in 2024 that harness the full capabilities of the PS5 hardware.

After Final Fantasy VII Remake shattered almost every expectation of what a remake could be, it feels like a deliberate act of comfort that the first chapter of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is so very familiar: the flashback to Cloud’s last mission with Sephiroth.
It begins with a long truck ride, where we find a young, doe-eyed Cloud doing stretches ahead of helping his hometown of Nibelheim with its monster problem while his team leader, Sephiroth, watches on with detached amusement. The same niceties that resulted in a more detailed Midgar in Remake help paint an even more detailed one of the flashback scene in Rebirth compared to the original Final Fantasy VII. Walking into Nibelheim, Sephiroth is almost a warm, doting presence, genuinely curious about the idea of having a hometown to return to. Cloud himself gets to wander the city, including its alleyways full of stray cats,...

Television has long ridden the coattails of cinema when coming up with new programming, serializing popular genres like Westerns and Crime Thrillers since its very inception. However, the obvious budgetary limitations of TV production mean that certain kinds of stories are less suited for the small screen. Thankfully, we’re lucky enough to live in a time when technology and the streaming wars have finally caught up to film when it comes to producing the type of long-form content we’ve always yearned for.
Case in point, Legendary and Apple TV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters achieved the unthinkable by bringing blockbuster-worthy Kaijus to the small screen at a scale we’ve never seen before. And though the show has already aired its finale, I know that Kaiju fans are likely still clamoring for more TV-based monsters, so we’ve decided to come up with a list recommending six TV shows to watch after Monarch.

On Twitter, we see Lil Nas X the troll. In his music, we hear Lil Nas X the musician. And in his new documentary, the “J Christ” singer hopes to give viewers a glimpse of Lil Nas X the human.

Films about cults, although a phenomenon that has tormented particularly countries like Japan and Korea, are not exactly so common, despite the fact that some great titles, as in the case of “Rebirth” by Izuru Narushima do exist. Choi Jeong-min, in his fourth feature, tries to fill this gap with a film that aims at presenting the phenomenon as realistically as possible, although retaining its dramatic premise from beginning to end.

To say it’s been a strange, turbulent year might be a bit of an understatement. Historically, 2023 marks the year of the dual strikes by WGA and SAG-AFTRA, the first time in over 60 years that Hollywood writers and actors went on strike at the same time. While both fought for better working conditions and deservedly won, the work stoppage no doubt plays a large role in the theatrical slate both this year and at least into the next. Through it all, horror continues to thrive. Box office records were shattered and indie darlings and international gems continue to surprise audiences. Of course, it’s in the most turbulent times where horror thrives most; audiences turn to horror for catharsis or release from real world anxieties and fears.
That reflects in 2023’s horror offerings, which has given everything from unexpected lo-fi indie hits like Skinamarink and Screambox’s can’t-miss The Outwaters...
